Who sign 3 titles deal with That game company and Quantic dream, who's idea to include Media Molecule in WWS?
Is it Harrison? That guy have good vision.
I'm glad to see this thread created, because I, and I think many other people who think about the bigger picture, see this is a topic worth discussing. Sony has so many internal studios, but it feels to me like they just aren't outputting that much, and when they do it's often not to the quality level it should be. Standards change overtime, and sometimes it feels like their studios aren't keeping up.
It's very hard to pin the Sony studios situation on Shuhei alone, as we really have no idea exactly how much support he has, how big the team surrounding him is, etc. but there is no doubt their worldwide studios just aren't outputting games at the quality level you'd expect.
Knack
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Infamous: Second Son
Driveclub
Those are the big PS4 exclusives we've had so far, and quite honestly, I feel like all of them came off as very flawed products. I'd like to directly contrast them to competing products, but I have a feeling I'd be attacked for doing so. Needless to say, I feel like there are competing projects out there that set more ambitious goals, and often execute on a higher level of quality. It's truly disappointing, as I feel like a little help here and there could really turn things around, so I hope they shake things up soon.
Sony WWS have been a bit of a trainwreck outside of Naughty Dog (SCEJ is still a mess, Infamous was half baked, The Order looks like a waste of everyones time, Polyphony are off in their own little bubble, Insomniac flew the coop, Santa Monica Studio is a wasteland AND then there is the hot mess that is DriveClub)
Phil Harrison did good work.
All that needs to be said.
This man has been a disaster, but his charm and humor have allowed him to get
away with quite a bit of bullshit. Being buddy-buddy with the CEO will make it next
to impossible to have this clown removed.
2015 will need to be his saving grace.
Right, let's see the bigger picture. I quote myself from an old thread:
I disagree. Sony is getting a lot of unjustified hate because of its marketing. The more successful something becomes, the more hate it gets, easy internet math.
Also, let's see the entire picture.
Japan Studio released Puppeteer, Soul Sacrifice and Rain in 2013, Freedom Wars in 2014, now they're on Bloodborne and something else I don't remember (and TLG, right?)
Quantic Dream released Beyond in 2013, they're now working on PS4.
Naughty Dog released TLOU in 2013, the DLC in February 2014, TLOU:R this summer. Now they're on Uncharted 4.
Poliphony Digital released GT6 at the end of 2013, we all know they're on GT7 for PS4.
Pixelopus, the newest team, released Entiwned this summer.
San Diego released MLB 13 and 14 in 2013 and 2014.
Santa Monica released GoW Ascension in 2013. Now they're on something big (GoW 4?) and they're collaborating for a couple of titles.
Evolution Studio is going to release Driveclub.
Guerrilla Cambridge released Killzone: Mercenary in 2013.
Media Molecule released Tearaway in 2013, they're now on the port for PS4 and probably something else.
Studios that didn't release anything in 2013 (and/or 2012) are the ones that covered the launch window...
Sucker Punch, that released Second Son and the DLC First Light.
Guerrilla Games with Shadow Fall. We know they're now on Horizon.
...together with Knack from Japan Studio and the demo Playroom from London Studio.
From the second party there's a good activity as well, with Resogun (Housemarque) and The Order (Ready at Dawn) as well as others I don't remember.
The team we know nothing about is Bend Studio.
I'd say this is a pretty good output for such a young first party group, compared to the huge one that has Nintendo for obvious historical reasons.
So, what about, I don't know.. give them time? With Vita out of the wa (sorry Vita fans), the resources are going in one single direction, and tha't the PS4 (and Morpheus maybe).
Quality wise, to answer the topic, I'm pretty satisfied. I don't look at launch titles as they're there to give something to play, sometimes they seem to be more tech demos than real games. I'm aware of that, this is why I'm confident that from 2015 quality will raise on all consoles.
Resources aren't infinite. If you decide to support your last console, it's obvious that the new one is going to have less games for a while.
Is is good or bad? I say good because if there's one thing I hate is the support for a console dying from one day to another, it feels like a huge middle finger to the fanbase.
Let's not forget the big picture.
All I'm seeing is a bunch of titles that should have been made for PS4, not PS3 2013.

Thanks to that cluster fuck of a decision we'll have to wait a while for those a number of those studios to put out their nextgen titles.
They weren't betting on Driveclub. They were betting on that SSM game Stig was working on that would have likely released in November but had to be cancelled.Yup, rad dude. No major 2014 holiday title, but i think they were giving Destiny a bit of room to breathe, and i'm sure they didn't predict Driveclub crashing quite as bad at has.

All I see are "games."
what? So screw all the PS3 owners who currently out-number PS4 users by what 8:1?All I'm seeing is a bunch of titles that should have been made for PS4, not PS3 2013.

I like how the internet can judge someones performance at their job without knowing how they perform at their job and what their job functions entail while making up their own performance measurements.
This is fun so I'll totally make a thread "Scott Rhode, you have failed this nation..."

I strongly disagree. The choice of continuing PS3 support to the end is one of the reasons PS4 started off so strongly. They had tremendous good will from that that carried over to PS4. I've seen several people on this forum state that they got a PS4 at launch because they expected the PS4 to be as strong as the PS3. Many may be disappointed atm, but they have PS4s at that point and contributed to the momentum in the first year which is super important, and the software is obviously coming in 2015 which'll solve all issues, so it worked out tremendously well for Sony in the end.
Studio Liverpool was killed under his watch while Driveclub was allowed to happen.
No fucks will be given if he gets replaced.
Ya, need more information behind the scene.
We don't know how much involvement and control he have, maybe he still under someone else lead?
Let's us all blame Don Mattrick.
You clearly don't understand how these arguments work.So for all the games that came out within the last 4 years and the ones coming up, Driveclub is the end all be all?
You can't be serious?
PS3 had YLODs as well. Both knew the risks because they were pushing the performance envelope with regards to TDP and cost. Arguably they paid off since the PS360 lasted so long. On the same note, that also has been helped by late-gen titles like TLOU.Stacking the PS3 with so many good titles at the end of its life instead of pushing them to the PS4 would certainly have been a mistake in other circumstances, but they're getting away with it now because MS has fucked up even more, much like how early last gen MS got away with a lot of fuckups (most notably RRoD) by virtue of the PS3 being a fucking disaster.
I agree, was definitely part of what got me so excited for PS4.
OTOH, PS4 went from a must buy day 0 to me when it was announced to not having any plans to get one soon now based on pace and quality of releases.
All that needs to be said.

Agent Phil needs to come back to Sony. That man is genius when compared to Yoshida.
Second, you want to say Knack was crappy scores wise, sure, did it sell, yes it did (guess what, corporations like things that sell well). Killzone, while not my cup of tea, was by all accounts an ok game, again, sold well (it had an almost 50% attach rate at launch). Infamous was considered a very good game, and just because YOU don't like it does not make it a flop. DC is having issues, and perhaps the one thing you could say that he had to give Evolution more time which did not pay off at all.
Also you complain that some games should have been PS4 launch games like GT6 or Puppeteer. You know it's not as easy as clicking your fingers and it happening. It would take time to convert assets, rewrite the game for the new architecture, and this would also mean leaving ps3 owners to have nothing for over a year (like MS did with 360 players). These last gen consoles still had ton's of people wanting games.

No must have titles yet for the PS4 after a year and the lineup looks somewhat weak in the near future except for Bloodborne. I'm not saying they aren't trying but PS4 still lacks a must have title.
Sony betting too much on Destiny this year was another mistake.
