The Order: 1886 sure is, uh, cinematic

I enjoyed Ryse so I will probably enjoy this. Played the same demo a couple of weeks ago. The atmosphere is great and moving your character has a bit of weight behind it which I like. Don't expect something it's clearly not, the game is quite the looker and the setting is certainly unique, not every game has the reinvent the wheel and thats fine by me.

This game is gonna get murdered if they don't have any respectable gameplay. No one gives a shit about graphics or story if your game plays just likeke 20## shooter released ages before.

Gameplay >>> Everything else. I hope Ready at down don't forget this.

Played this same demo at EGX and it was... ok. Nothing amazing about it but then with a quick 5 minute demo you're not going to be invested in any character or story. You're also not going to see (hopefully) everything the game has to offer. It actually reminded me of Gears Of War quite a bit.

so you played a 10 min demo in a event with tons of people behind you waiting to play the game, without known the story and maybe enve without the sound on (usually at event there no audio) and you said that there was no emotional manipulation for you to care about your squad making your way to one of your members who had been pinned downed etc.

Excuse mes, what did you expcet?

I'm hoping it's just that. A Gears clone in a new setting. If it plays as well as Gears, them I'm fine.

lol, you know, if this game was announced as an Xbox1 exclusive it would be THE most anticipated new IP with daily commentaries of "This game shows what the Xbox1 can do" "Most impressive game of the generation" "Can't wait looks like incredible experience".

How is it that some devs still think many cutscnes are actually better than playing the game?
From the little i have seen, it's a cutscene every couple of minutes.

Ban the cutscene.
They are LESS immersive. Even good cutscenes.

No.

Nothing that has been shown of this game looks fun gameplay wise

unfortunately, I agree. because I really like the setting, environments, artstyle...
I had the same issue with Quantum break, but the latest gameplay video changed my mind. I hope RAD will shortly release another convincing gameplay video for the Order!

Amen to this, cutscenes already ruined Max Payne 3 to me :(

Yeah because GAF totally loves the Xbox One. XB1 is totally free from all criticism here. Suuure.

Are you for real?

This is sarcasm, right? right?

It was nowhere near as good as gears. The enemies were very call of duty like. They run out and remain static behind cover, you kill them with one headshot, then their identical friend runs out to take their place.

The majority of reactions to the demo were positive, they even won a bunch of awards for it (even Brazil's best Game of the show). The positive opinions are just rarely made threads about, Gaf tends to enjoy the negative angle more than the positive. Don't let a few negative folks taint your whole perception of the game.

I played it at E3 and really enjoyed what I played.

Gaf? Try internet. Or mankind. Bad things/news tend to spread faster than the good ones. It's the rule of nature.

Good thing it was delayed then. Maybe they'll push something out next month. Something new..

He's got a point. Look how hyped up and criticism free Sunset was.

I saw literally no negative press or impressions.

yeah I especially liked videogamers classic preview where they said:

"This is THE most anticipated new IP" And made commentaries of "This game shows what the Xbox1 can do" "Most impressive game of the generation" "Can't wait looks like incredible experience"

This is just sad

It ended up being a great game. Also the youtube comments in every sunset overdrive video were shitting all over it. Yeah youtube comments I know, but still. An XB1 is not free from getting shat on even if it's good.

Plus I could say the same about Infamous. There was pretty much no negativity surrounding that game before release, and that was a game that ended up disappointing. The media, GAF or the general public are certainly not biased towards Xbox One exclusives.

Not much of the game has been shown outside of the cinematic elements to showcase the graphics.

So in my opinion there's still a good chance that this game will be a great addition to everyone's library

But to be honest... Sony hasn't put out anything near a classic title let alone a GOTY nominee since the system launched (TLOU Remastered doesn't count in my eyes).

So I'm hoping it's a 8/10 or a 4/5 type of title... anything less would be a disappointment considering the high production values.

Sounds like the same exact demo thats been previewed a thousand times before.

The way this is written makes it sound like he is trying to be negative on purpose

"I had no emotional attachment to the person who just died whom I met three seconds ago since its a demo" No shit.

This entire section I don't even know what he is criticizing, sounds good to me.
It is, the same now near 10 months old E3 build. I played it at EGX and loved it.

The demo drops you into the firefight as it fades in and you run though and into cover. Some orders are barked and then it is as you have seen.

Gun feels great as it has no Magical 0 recoil and feels very weighty and unwieldy and hitting the guys with the iron oxide cloud they choke and then you can set them on fire.

The Demo is so short you cannot get a feeling for it other than superb facial animation and VA work, being able to read a characters emotion from there face in a game running real-time for me is a true leap forward. It has shoot outs, small (simple) puzzle and ends as quick as it starts, anyone basing how the ENTIRE game plays on this is mad, it is like judging (and even shorter) judging TLOU on the prologue scene as all the game is, it would be like "wow this game gives you no control" it is a set-up piece and nothing more, all the other action we have seen always gets ignored??!!?. From this I enjoyed the feel of the shooting as it was not easy, the aiming could be smoother with the stick but this is a VERY old build.

But taking this with the exploration we have seen from the E3 lycan demo, the latest trailer with sneaking, takedowns and crossbow action along with the tech weapons in the game and so little of the Half-breads knowing that they have heavily hinted at a full on werewolf as well. The atmosphere, setting and style all look superb, this must be the most over used and talked about demo in gaming history..just await IGN's new "concerned preview" on it!

is there anyone looking forward to this movi- i mean game?

I am. I love the setting, the world they're trying to create intrigues me, and I'm a sucker for narrative driven TPS games, so this seems right up my alley. I don't need this game to revolutionize the genre, but I really want a solid story-driven TPS game.

Oh, and RAD seem like a bunch of cool guys, so it's not that hard to root for their success.

I can only judge what they've chosen to show off, so based off of that, I can't say I have a favorable opinion or look forward to the title despite some interest in the setting. My lack of confidence in the game aside, I can't make a final judgment until the game is actually out, though. (But at this point, all of our opinions are preliminary and based off of limited impressions.)

Nothing in the impressions in the OP struck me as excessively negative, though. They pointed out that there's not a lot to work with in getting a good impression of it. (And the more cinematic stuff might rightfully not interest you if you're not yet invested in the story of the game.) I'm not seeing anything controversial, at least.

unfortunately, I agree. because I really like the setting, environments, artstyle...
I had the same issue with Quantum break, but the latest gameplay video changed my mind. I hope RAD will shortly release another convincing gameplay video for the Order!

I'm still semi hopeful, remember those behind closed door previews where people said there were a bunch of really cool destruction things going on due to the soft body physics. None of that has been shown but it sounds like something that could separate The Order from being just another stock standard linear shooter.

Why is Sony giving people the same demo area over & over again? We get it; the demo section sucks. Show something new for preview sake or don't bother.
Demos don't just get produced every week, the demo they've been using since the game shows will likely be the only one they have until they have a valid teSon to put resources into producing a new one. Things like that usually happen when there's a new run of games shows or just before launch.

But isn't this the same demo they showed in Feb?
So E3, gamescom, now November... Still the same video???

I believe so, not sure what point you're making though?

As far as I'm aware it's the only demo they've produced. When we go into the summer shows it seems pretty normal for companies to show demos that were reduced around that time.

Unless they plan on releasing a demo on the PSN it's unlikely that we'll see another one.

I'm always hopeful about games I'm interested in, until their release!

Unlike for many others, cinematic linear gaming isn't a curse word for me. If it's well done, it's well done and enjoyable me, I don't want every game to be GTA-level of openness. The game's setting still interests me and the confrontation with the werewolf seemed pretty intense to me, despite being highly choreographed. I don't think anything they've shown so far looks any worse than Uncharteds do, so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the ride, unless they completely screw the controls (i.e. aiming just doesn't work, moving is too cumbersome) or some other basic stuff.

There are people who think Last of Us is all story and shit gameplay, so I won't be putting all that much weight on the opinions of others. The only thing I'm a bit vary about is the emphasis on fighting humans in the footage so far. I hope the supernatural takes presedence in the game and it's not just a tiny part of the game.

I dont know, but I really hope that Ready at Dawn trolls the entire industry with the impressions they have provided for Order 1886 so far, because if not, this game is going to bomb like hell in reviews and such.

And yes I know metacritic doesnt mean much, but I honestly dont remember an AAA production title to have so negative impressions and previews before. I honestly cant. Even games everyone expected to be bad, never got such worrying previews. At least I dont remember.

I really want The Order to be great, but from the gameplay I have seen , this game honestly looks boring as fuck. In terms of gameplay it is just ugly to have 10 seconds of gameplay every 5 seconds of cutscenes... cutscene to hold someone's hand, cutscene to open door, cutscene to make jump, cutscene to use items...I mean WTF whose idea was this?! Why take away player's control so damn much for such simple tasks?? Yes I am exaggerating a bit here, but I am trying to make a point that is all...

Can we please stop crucifying this game before we play it? We got 20 threads saying, "I really want to like this but". Is it that bad and is your desire to love it so deep that you have to trash it before it's even released? Sounds like people are trying to poison the well on this one for whatever reason. Maybe it does suck but at least let someone play the actual game and give a proper review before we start telling everyone to hate it.

Are we going to have these "The Order... uh.. oh noes... cinematic is bad" threads every 2-3 months, with the same people complaining and the same people defending it?
Jesus... if you don't like cinematic games, don't buy them.

I dont understand what you are suggesting exactly? To lock all threads and discussions in regards to this game, because it is not released and we havent played it?

This is a discussion board. Expressing concern is part of the discussion. People express their opinion based always on the info at hand. Nobody is crucifying the game, I think everyone is just concerned. Should we all stop talking until the game is released? If we apply this logic to the entire neogaf boards, then there would be no neogaf...

I think it'll happen until its review thread.

Yes and yes. I find it ridiculous that people are calling a WHOLE game boring based on the same short demo. I guess TLOU was just a cover shooter based in a hotel.

Totally different dude, the demo of TLOU done a great job of conveying how dynamic the gameplay could be from stealth/ brawler/ shooter, 2 months before release the game already had a public beta, and Naughty Dog were very open with the game.

The Order is set to realease in little over 2 months, yet so much of it is needlesley underwraps, we have no idea how its going to play, outside of the visuals and filmic cinematic look of the game, which are a given in this day and age.
And they stil persist on showing the same lukewarm demo, doing the game very little favours. It seems that everytime this game pops up there are more questions than answers.

What's even more frustrating is that Bloodbourne a game announced this year in June and is set to release atound the same time, has had more exposure, and in turn a more positive pre-release reception than The Order, we know more about the former than the latter a game announced over a year ago

Ah, didn't realise this, thanks. Waste of time reading this topic then.

Although.... once, after playing PGR for 15min at a brand spanking new x360 demo stand, I was quite emotionally invested in the windshield of my car.
