The Order: 1886 sure is, uh, cinematic

Lets not kid ourselves with that one.

And Knack and DC definitely underdelivered.

While I adore TLOUR, it IS just a remaster.

Hardly any exaggeration going on, especially when you compare it to Nintendo and Microsoft exclusives over the same period.

MS lineup is not that much better then Sony's in my view and the indie exclusive games in ps4 gives the edge to Sony for me.

inFamous 2 was much more varied in terms of side & campaign missions. I loved the first two games and the inFamous 2 DLC. I went into SS expecting another inFamous game & that is what I got. Maybe it is my fault I expected more side-mission types other than "Chase Down a Double Agent", "Shoot a camera" and "Beat-up some drug dealers".

infamous 2 was definitely more vibrant than the first one in both art direction and structure, but in the end, to me anyway, it still had those same issues. I thought the first game felt like a chore to play despite seeming to be really cool and fun at first (and some aspects were) but the gist I always got from Second Son was "this is more infamous just way, way prettier" and that's what I got out of it when I played it. Again, I didn't think it was bad, I just felt that it seemed to be relying on the graphics to carry it a bit.

Folks are busting their asses to finish the game. All of their resources are going towards that at this point. Creating a vertical slice demo takes a lot of time and effort away from development.

The game is floundering from a public perception angle, at this point having a good PR campaign could be most important thing they do for the success of this game.

Killzone SF is still the only good competitive shooter on the next gen consoles. Driveclub is also fantastic but broken.

I was able to play that same demo when Sony was at UC Davis last week. I agree that it was very cinematic and what you got to do was kinda limited, but we are missing a lot of context with what is happening. Of course you aren't going to feel bad about some dude who dies. You didn't have any game time establishing him as a interesting and deep character in the 2 minutes you play before he is shot.

I'm hoping all these woes are tied to Sony's 1st party making the transition to the PS4, because of working with unfinished dev kits and rushing to meet the launch deadlines.

Sadly I see another Sony exclusive getting polarized reviews with 65-70 score...I hope they delay it further to mid or late 2015 but At the same time I think there are some fundamental issues that might not get fixed no matter how long they delay it. Hope the amazing tech is not wasted on mediocre gameplay. They need to show some new stuff with better playing mechanics.

IMO KZ and Knack ended up being mediocre while only Ryse was mediocre for MS. DR3 was decent and F5 and KI were pretty good. Resogun was my shit though.

TF and I:SS seem to be about the same tier of quality.

TMCC is a much better value than TLOUR.

FH2 shits all over DC.

SSO looks like it turned out great as well.

I know I'm skipping some retail releases but those are just the ones that came to mind. A lot of the indie games on PS4 aren't too great IMO. Don't Starve, Blix the Cat, and Towerfall are the only ones I play regularly.

I would say honestly at the moment the game barely even exists on most peoples radars.

The real fight for public perception is in the month or two leading up to release with previews, reviews, marketing etc. At the moment there's not much point trying to get the public interested in the game because they are more distracted by the big titles in the here and now with a bunch of big sequels hitting in the next few weeks. December will be the time to start ramping it up.

For the love of god RAD, please have a new demo at the Playstation Experience in December.
It's pretty obvious that after the Uncharted 4 gameplay trailer, RAD needs to come out with 10 minute demo to blow us away. This is that one weird game that I love everything but the gameplay about it.

Then obviously finish the show later on with Legend of Dragoon reboot as the real highlight of the show.

I hear ya. That is why SS was a letdown for me. Maybe had I been new to the series I would have loved it. Otherwise it was just another average PS4 release from Sony. I hope they innovate the next game with new ideas because it's getting stale.

Reviews are just opinions. Less reliable ones if anything.

this guy is right. the opinion of someone who says DC is fantastic and Shadow Fall is the best competitive shooter on the new consoles paints a more accurate picture of the quality of those games than dozens and dozens of reviews.

This is basically the Sony MO when they try to peddle crap. When sony is proud of something you see game-play, Bloodbourne was revealed 6 months ago and look at all of the game footage we have seen.

Just like driveclub, this title has was revealed over 18 months ago and how much have we seen of it ??

I'll reserve final judgement when it is released, but at this point its not even on my radar.

Why members is falling on this. Every gaming site has a preview BASED ON THE MORE THAN 6 MONTHS OLD DEMO! And nothing new since then,.

Has looked bland from the start. Uncharted and Little Big Planet are the PS4 games I'm looking forward to. In the mean time I have Smash 3DS and Sunset Overdrive to play.

Also they need to add some kind of MP or co-op to give it some life. The main game would be like 6-10 hours which is not enough value for a full price game in this era. If the game was like 25-40 hours, mp wouldn't matter. But I am 100% sure it will be like 6-10 hours :/ which will be another point for reviewers to cut the score.

Glad you agree.

but honestly, i'd take the opinion of a game from most Gaffers over professional reviews. The media infrastructure and processes for reviews just doesn't lead to very informative, well thought out, and honest opinions.

If I recall most PS3 exclusives never review great but a lot of them become classics. For example, Resistance and R&C, I don't remember a lot of reviewers loving either series but God knows fans did. I don't think review scores really matter that much when you look at the variety of games. Everyone knows Microsoft will give you a game with pew pew and rev rev and Nintendo will give you jumping and smashing things, but Sony always seems to be taking chances. Heavy Rain, SotC, LBP, Demob Souls, etc. I like Knack, I like KZ, and I like Infamous. Reviews did not deter me nor make me second guess my purchases nor experiences. The fact is I make my own decisions and when you own over 200+ games like I do from pretty much every genre except sports, you appreciate variety. Once day I play a tales game, one day a platformer, one day a racer, one day a shooter, etc. I for once will probably love The Order because it looks like a solid TPS, with Steampunk + Rssistance 3 elements. Will it be for everyone? No. But will it have its huge fanbase? Definitely whether or not reviewers like it. Just saying, don't rule out the game yet. Ramble ramble.

Tldr; give it a chance.

Yep, the majority of my favorite games last gen were even overlooked or praised for reasons that I wasn't praising them for.

It's not going to score well because it won't be "fun" meaning shooting thousands of enemies for no reason. It'll have a story and atmosphere, and great graphics. Exactly the kind of game I love to play. Exactly why I can't stand games like Sunset Overdrive which bore me to death.

Good lord. Why the hell they can't make another demo for the game. Why is it so hard?

This whole bit about there being no proper playable demo is making me worried now. Why? Just why?

I'm going into this like it is Beyond: Two Souls Victorian Werewolf Addition.

That would be just fine with me.
Yeah. I honestly don't mind powerhouse production value tech showpieces. Beyond was worth it for the graphics and production design.

Killzone is horrific and can not be even remotely compared to Titanfall. I seriously can't believe shadow fall was made by the same people that made killzone 2 and 3

Opinions. Review scores wouldn't paint quite so positive a picture.

Matacritic:

Killzone Shadow Fall: 73 critic score, 6.9 user score. (Killzone having twice the number of critic reviews - larger sample size)

Killer Instinct: 73 critic score, 6.1 user score.

Go to a Killer Instinct thread and ask a fan - "one of the best modern fighting games" on an opinion based process....despite what both critic scores and user scores would suggest on metacritic: A mediocre fighter.

Same old subjective wars.

Old news... Same impression 9+ months later... I swear I could be a game journalist.

*begins to type impressions of Doom shareware.

Seriously though, I really hope the game is more than what this old demo has presented.... Repeatedly.

Drive club had a ton of footage bro.

,... Lol. "Horrific".
Nah boss, Kinectimals WAS "horrific".
Your angst out weights your vocabulary.

Legitimately it was straight up launch mediocre. I went extreme. First killzone I've not completed and never will. I'm worried about the order. Hope it can get turned around from the mediocre playing game it was in Feb. They will have had time I hope

What I like is that people are forgetting that it is not only a shooter, there is things to solve as well, crimes and what not, horror segments as well. And they have not even showed that stuff yet.

I think it will be a nice thing to have. A slower pace is very welcoming with that kind of game. Of course it will be a shooter more than anything else, but don't expect it to be through the whole game.

Why do they keep showing this same demo off over and over again?

Avoid spoiling the story. That's why having some type of multi-player or co-op component is so crucial. You can show that instead to avoid spoiling the story and just release a trailer every now and then. Unless you're SP open-world - you can show more and focus on things not too story-centric like fetch quests, environments etc.

Marketing a linear story-based game is not quite as easy.

Like everyone said... it's the same demo that was shown in June, that was probably done in May? But was just reviewed by a more cynical person. It's a 5 minute sample meant to showoff the engine and the game ideas. They were never misleading with their descriptions of this game and have always said it's an action cinematic shooter game experience. I completely understand gamers not having that as their favorite genre (especially gaf), but I wish people would stop trying to act like it should be something it isn't...

Also, I'm sure the company does not have time to create a new demo when the game is coming out in February. Demo's really slow down production, because you have to be focused on that snapshot experience to make it playable by hundreds/thousands, which takes a ton of time.

Hopefully they show more as we get closer to release though (trailers ect.)
Why do they keep showing this same demo off over and over again?

Imagine being a baker. And you are working on one huge cake... while you are working on it, people keep coming up and asking for a taste of the cake. But you arent even done working on it. You can let them try the batter, but you most likely have to take some of your cake and make it into a smaller cake so you can appease those waiting. Taking the time to make a smaller cake takes you away from making your bigger cake, especially if you got people asking for new pieces every few minutes.

They're probably just trying to finish the game is what I'm saying... haha.

wow. that's some fucking terrible writing, Destructoid. I expected better.

BruiserBear is on a roll lately, lol

Doesn't seem worth it with all this negative press. If you can't show more than this small demo, just how long will the final product be? Is there seriously nothing else to show that won't spoil the story?

Then again, maybe they just don't have the time or resources to produce a new demo build.

Killzone SF is still the only good competitive shooter on the next gen consoles. Driveclub is also fantastic but broken.

I really enjoyed Shadowfall before people broke it, but it hasn't been the only one. Titanfall is very good as well. Not a big fan of Destiny's PvP thus far though.

On topic: At this point I'm pretty much done with looking into this game until release. It seems in-line with my tastes with setting, game style, and presentation, but what's been shown thus far hasn't met up with the quality I expect to where it's almost screaming Battlefield 3 campaign where I'll be afraid of breaking the game if I walk the wrong way. I understand RAD is relatively new to this scale of a project, but in the end I can only get into so many games with so many finite resources, and this isn't a case where I'll just be charitable.

That too...it's a tricky choice. Only RD can explain that....last I heard they give all the footage and builds to Sony and Sony markets it and chooses what to put out......

I myself want to see more. I am not gonna sit here and claim all criticism is unfounded. While there have been some stupid lines thrown around to describe this game unjustly (and ignorance too) - there is a legitimate complaint about the likeability of the section they put out to demo the game-on and how it has been received.

You are going on meta critic user scores? Do you know how pointless that is. 90 percent of those killer instinct scores are probably peeps just hating in the one. The ps4 murdered the Xbox One at launch and everyone was hating on the one. It git hopelessly trashed every where. I do get your point and killer instinct is worth a much higher score than both the user and press. Killzone might be great to some. Killer instinct had a legacy and a lot of fans they could have pissed off. Killzone isn't really cared about and even us fans of the series want gorilla to make something else
