PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

Nice month for vita.

So I finished Hard on Project Diva f today without much problem, went onto Extreme and did fine on the first few songs. Then came Ashes To Ashes and my fingers melted. Squeezed out a Standard score, but was more mashing than anything. I guess you need to alternate with both hands, but with all the shit going on on screen and my unfamiliarity with the songs, that's proving to be a pretty tall task.

And Freedom Wars for 25€ is tempting. Might just push me over the edge.

Everyone get Ys! Good game.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is cross-save, not cross-buy.

Which was what I meant by "Seems like they changed it"

No, I see what you mean but I'm suggesting that it may still not be cross-buy (so, if you paid money for it, you wouldn't get both versions) but that PS+ users are getting both versions for free. You could be right, though, we'll know very soon.

Still can't believe we aren't getting any retail titles. Here's last November for comparison

All I need is the Binding of Issac. Though I don't know how long I can take them only giving out indies. They are fine for a bit, but I'd like something more substantial.

Yeah "Dual Wielding" is really helpful for the more difficult songs on Extreme.

The JP version was able to get some English words sounding pretty close using kana and certain phrases in roman letters worked but it was mostly imperfect. Add in all the European languages for the EU region and they probably felt it was better to exclude it (most people won't have ever known the feature existed in the JP version in the first place) rather than include it and have it not work 90% of the time and be counted as a broken feature against the game by players.

That was a thing the accesory had, right? Doesn't surprise me it's been removed. That poor thing will suffer in order to pronounce my name lol.

In the end I've planned to pre-order Freedom Wars, finish it before Tales of Hearts R arrives and then trade it in for that game. And I'm going to sell 2 old games to get it.

I'm going to GAME in an hour to see how things go. It's been like 5 years since the last time I was there lol.

I'm not in the "I want real games side" but damn, PS+ has lost some value in the past few months. I think I may resub for just a month in order to get October + December games (and January if I'm lucky with the dates). I liked PS+ because it gave me the best of both (AAA and indie) worlds but things are changing, it seems.

No Costume Quest 2 on EU store in time for Halloween is a joke. Sorry Double Fine but I'm not playing a Halloween themed game in November or December or whenever it's put up.

No sale in EU for Zen Pinball The Walking Dead it seems. It's on sale on Android and US PSN, probably iOS as well, but EU PSN?

......
no...

Ps Plus Lineup November
PS4: Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Steamworld Dig
PS3: Frozen Synapse Prime, Luftrausers
Vita: The Hungry Horde, Escape Plan

Looking forward to all the complaints because Indie.
Can you really blame those who complain? The best combo should be AAA + indies like we had in the past, but excluding and entire category of games(AAA) you cut the variety, we all like indies, but not everyone HAS to like them, tastes are tastes, you can't dispute them, usually who buys a home console wants jaw dropping 3d graphics, not 2d pixelated graphics.

Anyway considering cross buy titles, what games Vita gets?

Did anyone play Chariot in single player and if yes, is it fun? I read that it is somewhat similar to Little Big Planet in that you can play in SP bit miss out on a few areas. The game looks great and interesting (i love physics based puzzle platformer games).

I can see your point but I don't think that we lose any variety by excluding AAA games. Indie is just a label for games made by independent developers and include games with different artstyles and genres.
That being said, although I am fine with having lots of Indies on Plus, I know that many people are disappointed by that and from that point of view Sony should probably try to offer a better mixture of AAA/Indie again.

All the games except for Frozen Synapse (?) are confirmed as Cross-Buy.

I think people feel like they are getting more for their money when a $20 or $40 retail game is made free instead of $15 indie games, even if the game is not necessarily as good.

I am actually really baffled by this. What is the benefit in getting "more" for your money if the game is worse than cheaper games? Just for the sake of posting on forums that you got a game for "free" which normally costs 40$ although you probably won't play it because the game is bad? I am not saying that all AAA titles are bad but I mostly had those people in mind who are demanding Knack.

Is it still Borderlynx that you need to create a US shipping address with to buy stuff off US PSN outside of America? Is there a specific state I should use to avoid certain taxes etc., not sure how it all works?

Define "better".

AAA != better

I didn't say AAA is better or anything about AAA. I would argue the indie games given out lately are not as good as the previously given out indie games. They actually given out very few AAA games ever. Most of them were retail "B" grade games. Binary Domain is the perfect example.

Need some advice, fellow Vitagaffers. I fancy buying a new game, and I'm undecided between Freedom Wars (I'm interested, but kind of want to buy it and show my support for Sony actually bothering to release it over here), and Toukiden: The Age of Demons. How do these two compare structurally; is either set in a consistent world you can explore at will, or are they broke into specific levels or stages? I'd much prefer the former.

Also tempted by Ys: Memories of Celceta. Damn, I wish these had demos.

Toukiden is getting an expanded edition next year, so you might want to wait?

Sorry but that is false, where are PS+ indie equivalent of Batman, Kingdom of Alamur Rekoning, Dead Or Alive 5, Remeber Me, various fps, open world games and so on?
Ok defending indies but let's not pretend that indies and AAA are the same.

Damn Frozen Synapse was the one i was hoping to be cross buy :(

This is going to sound weirdx but this game's rendering style reminds me of J-Stars Victory Vs.
Nah, it's not weird at all imo, i was thinking the same

Yeah gotta disagree.

One, they have given out their fair share of AAA games, including Bioshock Infinite, the Batmans, Dragon's Dogma, etc.

Two, games like Velocity 2X go completely against your thoughts about the games not being as good. I try to remember a better indie game they've given out day and date and I cannot.

So, I was finishing up Persona 4 Golden last night (like I have been doing for the past month!!), but I KNOW that it's all finally over. Felt good.
I really enjoyed P4G, and understand why it gets such high praise. I feel silly for wanting the game to just end at a few points, because... well, it just seemed like it was never going to :P (end spoilers>)
And despite moaning about the way the days draaaaaged at the "end" before Hollow forest, I was a bit sad that this was DEFINATELY going to be my final day in Inaba, since my character is leaving tomorrow. So when all the goodbyes were said, and I thanked Marie for being best girl, the prompt came up to go back to Dojima Residence for the final night. I chose not to. Despite loving P4G, I'm probably not going to come back to this game any time soon, so I decided to take one last leisurely stroll around the town. "I'm sure I'm just going to get a, you have no reason to be here message or something", I said to myself as I tried to take the elevator at Junes.
...*ding*

...Things F***n happened!!!!
THIS GAME NEVER ENDS!!!!

I never said that Indie games and AAA are the same. Basically my argument was that you have enough variety within indie games to cater to different tastes and that not all Indie games are the same as many people want to believe. My statement wasn't restricted to PS Plus games as well but I meant it in a more general sense. You could argue that the Indie Titles in the Plus line-up aren't as diverse as the AAA lineup but this doesn't mean that there aren't any Indie equivalents out there for the games you mentioned. In addition, I could also start naming Indie games which have no equivalent in the AAA space but I don't want to derail the discussion into list wars.
To sum it up, AAA and Indie are different but I don't think that one of both types is more diverse than the other.

I agree that AAA and indies have similar diversity and maybe on pc there are good indie equivalents to some AAA games, but that's not true on consoles, and even when two games are in the same genre the common console indie is 2d while the common console AAA is 3d, this alone makes them really different, so they are not equivalent at all.
Again most of those who buy home consoles want AAA games and that's what they play and buy the most, indies are just a nice addition and since PS+ used to give lots of AAA games disappointment is their only possible reaction to these months PS+.

It looks nice, not very familiar with the series though. What are the chances of it being localized?
You are not familiar with the series because it's not a series but a new ip :P
I think the odds should be good considering they are made by Danganronpa people.
