Has 343 Industries redeemed themselves with Halo:MCC

I'm about a 3-4 minute walk away from Ruffian Games, it's pretty cool to think that the Halo 3 and 4 ports were being done next door to me.

Although their office building is ugly as hell.

I never understood the decisions that went into Halo 4 that deviated from the simplicity of Halo 1-3: but I guess new Dev, trying to do a few new things differently etc....+ COD influence.

Looks like a great remaster/remake/port from all the videos. It's a collection of old games at the end of the day tho...not sure about redeeming. They were handed the Halo franchise and they will make Halo games till the end of times...until the IP dies out.

Explain how it isn't comparable?

Two remastered games vs four games. Two of which were overhauled while the other two are just remastered. Bumped up to 1080p/60fps Redone sound effects hundreds of maps, six of which were remade in new engine, what looks to be the best version of Forge.( might be missing something) the sheer amount of content is far more than i have seen in any other collection so far.

I can. Better level design, encounters and gameplay. That'll do it, you know?

Edit: Let's not forget the significantly better story Halo 2 had over Halo 4.

Yeah, Halo 4 did all of that better. I can think of maybe two or three decent missions in Halo 2. Though i will give you the Tartarus boss battle was better than the final Didact encounter, so there's that. The Brutes in Halo 2 were nothing more than crappy bullet sponges and you mostly fought them in game, not that much different from the prometheans. ( though they were improved in Halo 3)

I'd say we should probably wait until halo 5 comes out before we say they have redeemed themselves after that craptastic game that was Halo 4.

I would also say that the Halo 2 anniversary game mode in MCC is a likely indicator of what they are doing with Halo 5, of which in my opinion looks like they've taken 2 steps forward but 1 step back.

In regards to the 1 step back, based off of the Halo 2 Anniversary gameplay footage shown in MCC, I really don't like all the clutter in the screen and how half of the screen lights up in red when you get hit. I mean just look at the image below.

b4f2fc0c7bc0404d2208a84ee06a16e5.png

Why do we need all the flag capture indicators everywhere and combining that with the damage and grenade indicators just clutters the screen way too much for me.

You do realize that there are tons of other bundles out there, you could just buy any and sell the game. And just buy MCC. Not buying a console to play your fav game, just because its not bundle sounds stupid to me.

I was previously waiting on a MCC bundle too, but when they announced the Unity bundle (w/ Kinect and AC4) + the $50 pricedrop. Decided on going for that, selling the download codes for ACU and AC4, and picking up MCC.

If anything, MCC is redeeming Bungie by reminding us that they can create good games.

Bungie is never going back to making multiplayers like that anymore. Their shit now is so unbalanced.

I figure I'll play H4 a handful of times, maybe. But I mainly want it for H2/H3. Everything else is just gravy.

I personally loved Halo 4 and find the idea of 343 Industries "redeeming" themselves with Master Chief Collection to be incredibly insulting.

When Halo 4 is your DEBUT game, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

The Halo 4 hate on GAF is overblown out of proportion. Then again, this is the same forum that was FOR Metroid Other M so what would you guys know about quality.

That hate isn't overblown. Look at the numbers. Halo 4 multiplayer numbers dropped by half in two weeks and was a ghost town after a couple months. That's not GAF.

Plus, I have several friends who are huge Halo fans. We've played a ton of Halo ever since the first one, and not one of us thought Halo 4 was good. And I'm the only one that frequents forums, and I don't talk to them about forums so their opinion aren't colored by my opinion.

A lot of people didn't like Halo 4.

IMO, ODST is the only good game they didn't make by accident.

First line of the OP says it best. It was a good game, but for a Halo game it missed just about every bar.

From a technical standpoint I think they did a very good job to get all the games ported to new hardware and, from the looks of it, make it a seamless experience.

it's great value and wonderful for fans, but when they deviate from bungie's work you can see the gulf in craft

a microcosm is this comparison of the gun sounds from halo 2 and the mcc version. the subtle, memorable rings of the originals just made as loud as possible for no reason. clumsy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmkDAlzQMUE
Is it just me or are the reload sounds louder than the gun shots? At the very least they are obnoxiously loud.

I'd say more than half this thread doesn't do any research whatsoever on this collection.

The text font has already been reduced significantly. This is footage of an older build.

Didn't realize the image was from an old build, saw it in another thread somewhere on neogaf. I will still say that whatever they do with the H2 anniversary game mode is likely to be indicative of what they may be doing with Halo 5. I think things like the gungoose, the interactive EMP at the base and other interactive elements on the maps like the ice that can be shot down on the lockout remake and the new forge improvements are likely to carry over to halo 5.

FWIW, I got a chance to play MCC and Halo 5 two weeks ago. I can't say much because of NDA (since we won a charity auction to play Halo 5, we were told we can talk about general things, but no specifics) - the MP in Halo 5 is my favorite. By a lot. It...currently rewards skilled play and teamwork more than any previous iteration. There are some very new badass tricks.

Also, the game looks sooooooooo good, Feels like a next-gen game.

I don't think you can "redeem" yourself by re-releasing old games with updates graphics...especially since they didn't even make most of the games they are re-releasing...

I don't understand why they had to redeem themselves. They made a good game where they changed a some things, fans didn't like it, so for 5 they are leaning more towards the core Halo experience than they did in 4. I didn't realize people were mad about Halo 4 in way that would spur redemption talk.

Okay, so I realize that you can't break NDA, so I'm gonna make this easy.

One blink for sprint, two blinks for no sprint.

I played Halo 5 as well (you probably saw me there). Was a lot like Halo Reach, but with no Armor Lock. Also, the DMR was still over powered and infinite sprint is a default setting for now.

Doubt it will be a competitive game...just sayin.

Frankie told me this is all I can say

Obviously you're referring to the beta gameplay. We already know it's about fair starts, 4v4 etc. We don't have a clue how the final game will be in terms of BTB etc. Still, it's nice to hear you consider H5 to be your favorite, even above CE, 2 and 3.

The hell is this? How many people have played H5 already? Or are you guys just trolling?

Disappointing if true.

I just lost all hype. That sounds awful

I don't know if remaking the "good" Halo games makes them a good studio, but I think they have the talent to make the next one good.

I think I can agree with this. Judging from Halo 4 and the things they're doing to Master Chief Collection they seem like a talented studio, I just think they're fucked up why Halo is Halo in a misguided attempt to appeal to a broader audience.

It was a joke everyone.

How is hale 4 a bad halo game? I don't think a lot people agree with this.

Yan

1. sprint elongating maps
2. armor abilities
3. loadouts, especially including plasma grenades, plasma pistols, and boltshots
4. perks throwing out even starts
5. no weapons on map in most game modes
6. personal ordnance handing people power weapons
7. killcams
8. instant respawn
9. join in progress
10. awkward, laggy and cumbersome menu UI (especially after Reach)
11. poor DLC map integration.
12. poor covenant AI
13. no campaign or spartan ops theater
14. missing classic gametypes, with fundamental changes to existing ones (most being negative)
15. no in-game ranks. the progression system that was in game was short lived.
16. file sharing didn't work for the first few months of launch
17. waypoint website was cumbersome to navigate and missing features in comparison to bungie's halo-era site
18. story requires outside sources to fully grasp details
19. missing features in forge
20. generic weapon sounds in place of iconic sounds
21. lack of larger environments, meaningful set pieces and battles with decent scope in the campaign
22. HUD clutter, announcer spam, medal saturation, list continues
23. missing vehicles and weapons replaced by dull unimaginative ones (e.g. sticky det vs grenade launcher, mantis, etc.)
24. poor sound mix (can't hear dialog in-game, loud menus, loud abilities, etc.)

feel free to add. the list for reach is just as long, but there were lines even that game didn't cross.

LOL

Guys, anyone can come in here and say they played the game. That was my point.

So yes...Sarcasm.

Do I win something?

Playing a very dangerous game with stuff like that. It's why mods always PM people who pretend to be insiders to verify before bans. Shouldn't joke about that to be honest about having played or tested unreleased games.

I have high hopes for the H5 beta

In the meantime 343 gave us THE remaster and THE collection, nothing comes close to this thing in term of value...

Anticipating the return of the king in just 9 days :)

I think mine was obvious with the whole gravity gauntlet thing.

Hm...yeah.

"343 Industries (user interface, online infrastructure, etc.), Saber Interactive (Halo 2 Anniversary campaign), and Certain Affinity (multiplayer)"

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06...collection-halo-5-beta-announced-for-xbox-one

With Ruffian doing 3 and 4

http://www.ruffiangames.com/halo-the-masterchief-collection/

So again let me get this straight. We are judging 343's ability to potentially craft a great Halo experience based on the fact that they were gifted all of Bungies work from the first games and are in charge of the UI and Online Infrastructure.....OP cant be serious.

I'm not sure 343i can deliver a good Halo game, i mean if they tried and came short, i can see them getting it right this time but they basically went in the complete opposite direction.

it's not like fans told them that when they released details about the game but they assured us that it will be fine, well it wasn't and we always knew.

I'd buy that collection without 4 in it since it forces me to play it to complete some of the achievements and i really don't want to do that.

9. join in progress

i hate that, is there a MP shooter left on consoles that doesn't do it?

Then some of you need to work on social cues. I even put, "this is what Frankie told me I can say" in the spoiler tags. Now why on earth would Frankie want me to go to NeoGaf and tell you all something you don't want to hear?

Come on now =)

Ports/collections just prove technical prowess. They still haven't shown they know how to design good original content, let alone Halo-quality content. Halo 4 was fairly bland.

Also, I'm sure it wasn't their decision to put a Halo Collection together, but Microsoft's.

I'm still not excited for Halo 5.
