Confirmed: Dark Souls PC to migrate from GFWL to Steam in Nov (Details in OP)

What are the chances this also happens for GTA4?

pretty slim. as Rockstar Games hasnt issue any official respond about GFWL.
Bandai Namco said back in June that they were "seeking alternatives for the game"

Never say never. Rockstar is currently doing some significant updates to San Andreas, and GTAIV has generated a large amount of revenue for them over the years. They may be motivated to keep that gravy train going indefinitely.

Uhm, just a little question about it.
What about people who were fine with GFWL but are not fine with steam?

While those people do exist, they are almost negligible compared to the consumer base.

They could have done a better job with these achievements. Most of them are item based. Beat DS on lvl 1 or beat DS on highest difficulty would have been nice.

Pretty sure these are the same achievements from GFWL, XBL, and PSN, because all the games are like this. Fortunately, Dark Souls is inherently rewarding so you'll be fine playing the game as you like, and then moving to try NG+ and SL1 playthroughs if you want. You'll probably pick up most of the achievements along the way.

Ok I will try this game now again.(I mean after GFWL removal)

First time I played there was this big fucking guy who onehitted me. Stopped playing.
I had two big problems with this game:
1. It didn't run well(I had a crappy PC back then, got now a xeon/8gb ram/270x)
2. GFWL

These are now gone.

The announcement reads like you will still be able to play the GFWL version, they're just giving you the option to migrate to Steam. If you already have it on Steam you could download it now and disable updates, though I would assume from your question that's not the case.

The only risk of course being that GFWL is the bastard child of Xbox Live, and may not be around forever.

i never said..well never.

Getting an update on my San Andreas now would be both strange and amazing. like proper Widescreen support (they broke that on the steam release)

If you own the game somewhere other than Steam, presumably that version will continue to "work" as long g4wl "works". Which may or may not be so long.

Oh, so it's not a mandatory migration.
Thanks guys.

Since the Steam version will use Valve's servers, will using Durante's mod cause a VAC ban? I seem to remember uproar that certain graphical mods that have specific file types cause VAC bans. And Vale refuses to lift VAC bans ever.

GeDoSaTo never got me banned in DS2, been playing since launch with it.

VAC isn't as bad as hackers would like you to believe.

Too many things we don't know.
- Using "Valve servers" is not a given even if the game moves to Steamworks (i.e. From may want to host servers for the game themselves as they did with DS2 or it could be just peer to peer as it was for GFWL, which is most likely).
- Chances are the game will not be VAC-protected.
- There's a (very) slim hope the game could be updated to NOT require DSfix anymore for arbitrary resolution.

Steam forums are full of horror stories like "I just tweaked all my stats and my soul level with Cheatengine to play with a friend and somehow I got this totally unfair ban".

I play Dota 2 only with GeDoSaTo (every day and all the time), never been banned.

I always assumed From took advantage of Valve's infrastructure for DS2.

Steam says 3897MB. When they made the beta they instantly doubled its size, but I really doubt it means anything.

So, upgraded textures?

I wouldn't look too much into it, they are likely debugging both versions simultaneously.

Could it be higher-resolution textures and uncompressed audio? Possibly, but I doubt it.

as i told you, the SteamDB says theres a change in the size. way up to 7GB

I work during the day and go to school at night. I frequently miss things, or I need to confirm information independently when I get home.

Is the game sort of busted for anyone or just me?

I haven't played the game in months but had the urge to try and get back to it after being bogged down in Blighttown. But when I load it up from Steam, it won't let me log into GFWL and it says I cannot save my game and it doesn't show any saved game. Ugh.

That's how it has been for me for a year or so. I just put my laptop into airplane mode and it lets me bypass GFWL.

Was just wondering since it was working fine when I tried loading it up very briefly a couple weeks ago. I was wondering if it not letting me log into GFWL and not seeing any saved games is due to them migrating things over to Steam?

lol. I wonder if we will see performance increase similar to other games that had GFWL removed. I know its not an issue to run Dark Souls but its nice nonetheless...
As you pointed yourself performances aren't really an issue with the game.
Personally I'd be far more interested to know if they took the chance of working on this update to fix some of the old problems (like adding support to arbitrary resolution, finally making DSfix unnecessary).

Question, is the GFWL token that they refer to the same as the key you get in Steam from View CD-Key?
Just to be clear: all that talk about the GFWL token is mostly related to retail copies and it's completely unnecessary if your copy of the game is already part of your Steam library.
