Egil is so badass. Wish he was in smash bros.

nah, we want dickson and zanza

dickson is a fucking dude

I feel sorry for egil. he had the right idea, but maybe went the wrong way about it. fuck zanza. at the end, Egil was ready to team up with Shulk and co....but then he died. lollllll

Ok. So now i have given it an about 3hours trying, where the main story line drive you into the cavern after you touch the sword and see the flash. I went there, reach the part with the like larva thing on the ground and the big one show up. Got destroyed and i just said, ok this game is not for me.[...]

not that it would matter now or anything, but you're not supposed to be able to defeat that thing. most veteran players still struggle on their first encounter with it.
Back in the OT we called it the "you don't have to fight/win everything-tutorial". That's basically what it is. There is no way a newcomer could defeat it.
If that was the only reason you stopped playing you should reconsider, because it's by far the biggest difficulty spike until the very end.

Continuing with my Dolphin playthrough and i have to say i'd forgotten how much of that in battle dialogue is bathed in some cheese lol.

Especially Dunban, i can't help but smile anytime he says

Born in a world of strife
Against the odds
We choose to fight!!!

Especially anytime it's against an easy or a weak enemy lol.

There's currently a LTTP thread where discussing Xenoblade gameplay progress seems to be more suited than a XenobladeX thread :)

So you can only play as Noctis in FFXV... lol.

The same is true in Xenoblade X, right? You can only use your avatar in combat?

Curse of HD gaming.

Well You only ever controlled one character at a time in Xenoblade but you could switch the main around between battles. I wouldnt put it past the same happening with XCX

Nothing is confirmed eitherway, but in the first trailer, Elma is shown playable.

We don't know how it works. You could switch out every character in your party in Xenoblade. I see no reason to assume you will not be able to customize your party and select who your main character is outside of battle, too.

That's not Elma, it's a random avatar named "Tester".

But yes, nothing has been confirmed so far, it's all speculation since we haven't seen the other characters in action.

Tell that to Square Enix.

And the fact that you create an avatar might suggest we won't be able to fight as Elma or any other character in the game.

It's clearly Elma.

This is footage from almost 2 years ago, so names probably weren't completely set.

Here:

I'm not sure if this has been discussed in the thread before, but... I just realized something about the gameplay footage that Treehouse showed.

- When you go into the Equipment menu, you can select either character in your party.

- When you go into the Arts menu, you can select either character in your party.

- When you go into the Class Change menu, it just dives right in with no character selection menu. There is no indication in the interface you can toggle between party members either.

I wonder if that, along with the detailed character creation system, indicates that maybe in Xenoblade you can only essentially control the main character? That would... be a step back in some ways, because the best thing about the party system in Xenoblade was how some of the other characters especially later in the game played completely differently and it was fun to make them the leader. I really hope this isn't the case.

Another thing I noticed is that by going through all the class options shown late in the video, they actually revealed all the melee and range weapon types in the game for the main character:

Melee = Knife, Long Sword, Dual Swords, Shield, Javelin, Photon Saber

Range = Assault Rifle, Dual Guns, Ray Gun, Gatling Gun, Sniper Rifle, Psycho Launcher

Quite a number of these are familiar weapon types for different characters in Xenoblade, but there are also the more interesting types which aren't present at all. No wands or biters for example. So yeah, I really hope that when the Treehouse guys said that every character has their own unique set of classes, they weren't mistaken or something. Maybe ability to control other party members opens up after the Prologue or something?

I've read people expressing this exact concern when people realised there was a chatbox in the reveal trailer. If it really does have a multiplayer component, this direction would make sense. If there isn't (any more?), then I hope other playable characters were simply gated off in the early game. I understand that classes and weapon types possibly negate the need for other playable characters, but I'll still miss it regardless. I switched my leader up a lot in Xenoblade.

Couldn't that just indicate that the main character's class is highly customizable, but all the other characters have fixed classes? I think the point of having the main character be customizable in the first place is that you can adapt him/her to any play style - if you want to be a ranged vs. melee character, etc. - but if you could make every single character that way, they wouldn't have any individual identity or fighting styles.

But that doesn't foreclose being able to take control of those characters in battle or making them the leader; it just means they'll be fixed as a "ranged" character, melee user, etc.

You're right, that could be it. But I've also noticed that while the main character has a full display of stats in the equipment menu in the bottom right, when they switched to Elma's equipment selection, the entire stat section simply isn't there. Maybe she's some sort of temporary tutorial party member after all.

I'm not sure that taking the very first hour of the game is indicative of anything at all.

The treehouse people talked countless times about how you can do *insert game mechanic* with every character. I'm sure if character switching is axed, they would've told us this in one of the live demos instead.

Don't get too hyped. This could also be for Xenoblade 3DS.

I'll probably not bet on that for the single reason that New Nintendo 3DS will probably not be shown in the Direct. It's a n3DS exclusive, so the chances of it being announced is the same as the n3DS being announced, which is again most likely a no show in the direct.

As for the tweet, it could be nothing, or it could be Xenoblade X related, but it's enough to get excited. :p

There were hits of multiplayer too (from the initial X reveal trailer, at least) so... we don't know. Nothing's been confirmed yet. Also, the number of players was also listed as TBA on Nintendo's site somewhere too.

Are we aware of the game's format?

What is the emphasis on this time around- story telling or more of an online experience?

The use of personalised avatars makes me think the setting and tone of this adventure may be something quite new?

Will there be crafting and loot systems?

Been a while since the Wii game for me. Did enjoy it though.

Yeah. I feel Nintendo is going to avoid anything to do with the New 3DS until the holidays are over. Which makes me excited about the tweet indicating Xenoblade X. I mean I don't think she tweeted the direct where Xenoblade 3DS was revealed along with Shulk.

I do think we'll see X, but Xenoblade for n3DS could be shown in the Japanese feed.

But I think we're gonna see X tomorrow.

not just that but also this:

Her retweets are a reliable indicator for XCX appearances. Also, She did not work on the first Xenoblade. If she RTs, it's in reference to her own contribution.

There'll be no N3DS talk in the Direct. It'd kill Holiday sales in NA/EU.

We don't even know (for sure) if any online functionality exists. Have you not seen the E3 story trailer? Or the 60+ minutes of gameplay? All your questions are answered there!

Love to see a longer trailer than previous ones. I'd like a story trailer, and I would like this time for it to be in English. Surely some of the English VA has to be done by now?

Wait... So is she involved in XCX? I haven't been following the game very closely since it was announced.

They could even just do temp VA for the trailer scenes. Wouldn't be the first time someone does that.

I don't have any 100% definite source/proof for this but yes, from all we know she is.

To be fair, though, she does RT all of the official Xenoblade-related Smash Bros tweets, also.

would Xenoblade N3DS better sales hurt our chances in getting epic JRPGs on home consoles or help Nintendo see they should push this series as hard as Zelda?

was hoping the N3DS version comes out first to help push the sales of XCX

hopefully it is XCX we see in a few hours

From a business perspective its obvious whats going on. It's the holidays. Nintendo wants to showcase future games coming out for their system before holiday shoppers buy presents.

I for one welcome this. They're going to come out guns blazing. Hoping for a new game reveal.

I wanted them to do this exact thing last year. They waited until late December. Was a bit bummed. Now is a good time, hopefully they deliver!

Guys i am interested in xenoblade (wii) but i don't have a nintendo system. Should i purchase wii or just get a wii u to play the game? i saw you can get a wii for around 60 dollars. But i was thinking about getting wii u for obvious reasons (it's newer). Does wii games work properly on wii u? Sorry if i went a bit off topic here.

Take the plunge, get a Wii U refurb on NIntendo's site for $199. They are basically new. That way you can play the old Xenoblade and the new one coming out next year. Plus the new Zelda, don't forget that. Yes, Wii games work perfectly on Wii U. Need to get a Wiimote though.

thanks man i am gonna do that then for sure. Pick up the wii u for 199. but one more question when i google if wii u can play wii games i found out that wii games dont display on hd in wii u. Does wii games look "worse" on wii u? or the same. Little confused here.

Well, Wii games were never HD to begin with. 480p, so yeah, its not going to look amazing on bigger TVs. They do upscale to 720p, and it does look more sharp/vibrant. At least to me it does.

oh ok i understand. But do they look as bad as say a ps1 or ps2 game on a HD TV?

Like the other poster said you can get a refurbished Wii U with a one year warranty from Nintendo and Nintendo Land for $200. You will need a Wii Remote and either a Classic Controller or Nunchuk to play Xenoblade though. Also the picture is quality is slightly better because it is 480p kind of up scaled to 1080p over HDMI. Really not the greatest difference and more of a small bonus.

It depends on if you have other Wii U games you want to play or when you want to own one.

Used Wii's are very cheap (I plan to buy one in addition to my Wii and Wii U just to play imports) so if you just want to play Xenoblade that's your best bet.

Edit:

From experience only slightly better, still kind of blurry. When I play Wii games on Wii U though a 1080p signal is being sent to my TV. Looks better than regular composite.

Why are you confused? All it means is that Wii U is not a magic box. Wii was an SD console. The games were SD, thus they still are SD when played on a Wii U. If anything they look a bit better because you're (likely) using an HDMI cable on Wii U.

Nah i am gonna get the wii u for 200. I want the new xenoblade also. I like the xeno series. I stillhave my xenogears, xenosaga 1,2,3 from back in the day.

Shulk in Smash is a very good sign that they want Xenoblade to be on the level of Zelda.
