I thought the fight was bad, they could make it more interesting, i mean, its still the Avatar, are you telling me that Kuvira is used to fight airbenders and firebenders too? Korra should had given her one hit or two.
Korra either shouldn't have been getting fucked up that much, or she should have gotten more fucked up than she did. They should have decided what they wanted to do. Lol cuz fight was kind of strange, and made Kuvira look like amateur hour too.

If those earthbenders were any good, they (collectively) would have disrupted their footing then moved in.
Let's do it. Their scenes were great. I knew it wouldn't happen, but apart of me was kind of hoping Varrik and Bolin would have showed up and fucked shit up. Bolin laying down some Lava. Varrik throwing some spirit vine bombs. Rekt shit.
Would have been a cooler way to save Korra than Jinora and Opal doing that hurricane thingy...that makes air bending OP as fuck.
Shouldn't that plot play out with her not knowing how to deal with these political situations? You could still have that theme dog her, without them dragging on her "broken" state plot.
Korra has no proper technique, meanwhile Kuvira is all technique, Kuvira danced around her and Korra couldn't do shit without her win button. Korra should just be ashamed, imagine if Kuvira had airbending, would've been embarrassing. Seems like it's almost confirmed that Lin, minus season 2 is the most intelligent Bei Fong. That fight scene was straight garbage.
Straight
Garbage
Are you kidding me. She could lose, but make it a bit more dynamic at least. Korra shouldn't have been getting f***ed up that much.
Suyin is an idiot, like I was saying last episode.
Korra what kind of avatar are you. Get good ugh
Korra was always a pretty garbage fighter outside of the avatar state, but this was just embarrassing. Jinor's hair continues being stupid as heck. I like Meelo's character, I really do, but his voice actor is the most grating thing I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.
Opal is almost as stupid as her mom.
2 measly airbenders held off the entire army. They could have just stayed there forever and the army would have got bored and left.
The Bolin and Varrik stuff was cool though.
Overall a very enjoyable episode.
How about actually earthbend, instead of just running straight to the kids. What were they going to do, beat the children into submission? If those earthbenders were any good, they (collectively) would have disrupted their footing then moved in.
Maybe, but I just feel that this isn't going anywhere. At this point I fail to see how Korra can be redeemed as a protagonist and Kuvira defeated without beating the lesser evil for the bigger one.Seems to be one of the core thesis statements of the season, does the world need the Avatar and such. Of course, the situation really hasn't allowed her the time to get up to speed with everything.
Pretty sure that is a theme that has always dogged Korra, in fact, this is the first time she has really tried to understand the situation rather than hulk smash. If you want to blame anybody from a character standpoint, blame Sulyn and one of the stupidest assassination attempts I have ever seen.
No wonder Junior is so devoted to her. She probably ties him up and calls him Slave Boy during sex.
Actually I do agree with Shard, Su being Su basically fucked this one up for everyone.
maybe she is the real season 4 villian, eh
I feel like they're definitely going to try to lift Korra up pretty damn high at the end. She is going to get out of slump in a big way, and I really look forward to that. She is going to have to shit on Kuvira from a high altitude to make up for this ass-beating though.
I disagree heartily with the Ozai and Kuvira comparisons. Kuvira is actually her own character.
-Doubtful, too easy to lie about it and say that Varrik screwed up and blew them up.My Theories
- The rest of the world will likely use Bolin's supposed death as a rallying cry against Kuvira
- Republic City will be next on the unification list, as it was Earth Kingdom land taken by the Fire Nation, then repurposed by Aang & Zuko
- The previous point will get the new Fire Lord (Zuko's daughter) & Zuko himself involved
- Republic City will probably suffer the fate of Hiroshima, or at least part of the city, at the hands of the Spirit Weapon.
- Kuvira is gonna go full-on Balalaika
They can't really use Bolin and Varrick's death as a rallying cry when nobody knows they're supposedly dead.My Theories

My god this was funny. She's the Ira Gamagoori of the Avatar world. I liked how she just trash talked her. She had so much fun fighting Korra. Yeah this was like the first episode she acted like a normal human being giggling and what not while fighting the most powerful person on earth. I guess for the finale she'll be like Grey Fox, "Hurt me more Korra."Turns out, she gets off on domination. Notice how she acted to Korra's challenge. She was actually smiling like a normal person. She was loving the idea of fighting the avatar. THE AVATAR. Keep in mind that this is a person that's supposed to be able to throw mountains at people in the avatar state. Even Ozai, the best fire bender in the world and a sociopath was all "OH SHIT I AM SO FUCKED" when Aang started glowing.
Kuvira on the other hand is having the time of her life. I mean, she had no reason to believe Korra wouldn't immediately wreck her shit from the onset (How would she know that Korra's been weak these past few months, or that she would have trouble with the AS). THere is no reason she shouldn't have expected to be completely anniliated, but somehow she was happy and looking forward to it. What the hell...
No wonder Junior is so devoted to her. She probably ties him up and calls him Slave Boy during sex.
Kuvira is much more entertaining than Ozai.
wtf I thought you were above thisNo wonder Junior is so devoted to her. She probably ties him up and calls him Slave Boy during sex.

Trey, no. She is 100% Ozai.
Also what character, Kuvira is pretty bland in personality. As was Ozai. I would say they are pretty matched.
wtf I thought you were above this
Why does everyone wanna project weird stuff onto Kuvira ;_;
I think my favorite character moment in this episode is when they actually gave Kuvira a bit of a personality power up and having her actually act as giddy as a schoolgirl; practically dancing in the battlefield at announcing they had won. Kuvira could do with more touches like that.

yes she's had such a wonderful nuanced characterization including when she did things that were evil, and when she did things that were even more evil and then she did that one thing that was evil and also, when she was evil........
wtf I thought you were above this

Kuvira is intelligent as well as ruthless, Ozai is simply ruthless. Ozai is the asshole who heard the idea committing genocide and said "sign me the fuck up."
Kuvira has dynamics her character - she knows people and how to manipulate them. She's very Azulaesque in that regard. Ozai just sits behind his flame wall and glares at people.
The largest parallel I've observed between the two of them is that they both called the Avatar a pussy when they wouldn't finish them off.
This show is missing an Uncle character. Somebody who is way too strong but also lovable.
Or draw for that matter.
He's the little artist that could.
Well, she's a blank canvas. The writers want us to fill it in. It's pretty genius writing actually. Kuvira is whatever the fans make her.
I actually cringed at that moment, because Kuvira just got matched by a shit tier Korra. Her fighting was pretty weak. So it was kind of funny to see Kuvira all sweating and her hair down and being like WE WON LETS INVADE. Haha. Made me kind of lose respect for her. Kind of like that moment when Ozai had his powers taken from him, and was like IM THE PHOENIX KING!
No, If you are going to have a character be super stronk , you are going to have to come up with a good explanation why they aren't wrecking shit. Even sonic has a grasp on this, sonic of all things.
The people criticizing did not feel the explanation narrative wise was good enough to justify her not wrecking shit.
She didn't care about beating The Avatar she cared about conquering the city and seeing somebody elated about reaching a major goal is a very natural thing. Also, I am going to correct you on this, she didn't signal the invasion until The Air Nomads did the run-in and on the technical terms broke the rules of the accord. Actually a nice and subtle distinction because that action really does play into Kuvira's political mindset.
Kuvira is definitely gonna say something like "Bolin is dead" to either Opal, Korra, or Mako.-Doubtful, too easy to lie about it and say that Varrik screwed up and blew them up.
-Yep
-Ehhhhhh maybe
-Completely unsure honestly
-Yep

I'm just calling it like I see them, champ. Dominating Korra is the most fun we've seen Kuvira have since she showed up, more so than the ballet or politics. I'm just transferring that attitude into the bedroom.

I have a PS4 and X1. If anyone on KorraGAF wants to add me, I have zero friends as my friends all jumped to PC gaming 3 years ago. And haven't gotten a next gen console yet. So if anyone wants to play COD on PS4, hit me up. If anyone wants to play MCC next week on X1...hit me up.

Same here.Yeah, but it was kind of pathetic. It's like taking your victory when you didn't really win. I dunno. I just wish Kuvira had done more in the fight. It kind of framed her as a weak villain and then someone that was willing to accept her win and declare herself as this god...despite being pretty pathetic. I dunno. The moment just made me laugh.

Shell use it to her advantage. That's for sureIf she does she'll just say Varrik accidentally killed him.
They did explain it...we had like 2 episodes around it...mental breakdown? poison in the body for 3 years?
but whatever, people will complain about everything that happens in this series no matter what it is. I'm having fun and think this series is far better than many of the animated action crap out there, like Ben 10 or Marvels terrible Spidey
GAF is the only place I see such negativity with the series.
You can tell from her face that she was saddened by the supposed death of Varrick.Shell use it to her advantage. That's for sure
Also Zhu Li confirmed traitor?
