Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

I don't like the direction Blizzard has taken lately.

While they make high quality games, they don't appeal to me anymore. Hearthstone isn't my cup of tea, HotS is just...boring, and the TF2-arena-shooter genre isn't something I've ever liked. I'm much more into RTS and MMOs.

Oh well.

So Titan was a very ambitious superhero MMO that, among many systems, probably had arenas as part of its PVP component. When the game was canceled, Blizz salvaged the battlegrounds element and made it a stand-alone, Team Fortress-y game.

Terrible name for a game. At least it doesn't have the word "crimson" in the title.

Not the biggest fan of shooters, nor am I that good at them, but I'm definitely interested in this. Looks pretty fun.

As long as it's not as wacky as TF2 is and stays to the basics with classes that have defined roles then this could be good.

I'm tentatively looking forward to this, but outside of WoW I've not been a huge fan of Blizzard recently.

Why can't games like this ever have a story/campaign mode?

Kind of hard to build a single player campaign with an emphasis on story around a multitude of characters with significantly different abilities. There seems to be a PVE mode just based off the first part of the gameplay trailer so there's that at least.

It certainly has charm and it looks a lot like Team Fortress 2... but its another shooter. I get they make money but does everything have to be a freaking shooter? I am so freaking sick of shooters.

Well, they're already doing an RTS, an MMO, a top-down RPG-action game, and a digital card game...what's left aside from a shooter? A Blizzard kart-racing game?

Neither of which are ones they can rely on solely anymore. The market has shifted.

It is hard to get even a little bit excited for Overwatch, knowing what Titan could have been. Hopefully this brings in money and helps fund more interesting projects.

Love the colours and art style, I'm a bit of a sucker for all the brightly coloured games we seem to be getting this generation. I'm definitely intrigued to see Blizzards' take on the genre.

looks uninteresting, but then i'm not interested in team-based only shooters so i MIGHT be biased

oh, how i wish for a game to be announced that makes me giddy again like back when i was younger

I didn't think I'd see a new blizzard IP in my lifetime
and FPS?
too bad I am not interested at all

Hope it comes to consoles.

I doubt it will be something that happens off the bat, but it probably will. Depending on gameplay though, there are a number of balancing issues that may occur along with some levels themselves. Still it seems suited but it will also depend on how they monetise it, which hasn't been mentioned yet

A huge landmass MMO where the open world PVP was this acrobatic fast-paced would've been insane.

yeah, if last gen was classified as the age of 'grim-dark bald space marines', I can easily see this gen getting the 'hyper-color Pixar cartoon' label.

Knack, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends, Fortnite, Battleborn, Project Spark, etc. Now add Overwatch.

Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, just seeing an interesting trend in the past year.

Do you get to play as the Gorilla? Please be yes.

Yes.

One more Overwatch thing: they haven't mentioned pricing, but I heard they're modeling it after League. F2P, purchasable characters

Meh, meh, and meh

Ridiculous, from WoW to this. The old Blizzard would have never compromised like this.

Yeah Steve Jobs never would have let this happen.

Hint: You have no idea what you're talking about with regards to "compromise." Calm your tits and learn more about the game before writing it off.

I would be so much more into this if I made my own character and all those characters in the trailer were actually classes, like a Destiny/TF2 hybrid with Blizzard touches.
