Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

The graphics are simplistic for mass accessibility. League of Legends didn't become the world's most popular game by needing a GTX Titan (pun?) to run it.

That's been Blizzard's ethos for decades, none of their games were graphical powerhouses. and for the reasons stated.

No, just no. Look at those shaders in the gameplay again.

Played like 1.5h ago on Low. It has even specular reflections. Its way, way better.

I guess that was intentional. Wouldn't surprise me if it runs decent on a Radeon HD 5000 series GPU and a Core 2 Duo.
Tons of games that can run on this hardware look better.
I've played Crysis 2 on C2D and R4850 in 50-60fps in multiplayer in 2011!

I really admire that Blizzard are coming out of the gate swinging with Overwatch. Lengthy debut cinematic, extended gameplay trailer, panel discussing in detail what the game is and their design philosophies behind it, plus it's playable at BlizzCon. Throw on top of that all of the various gameplay videos on the Overwatch site detailing each individual character's unique abilties.

This is how you unveil a game.

this shoutcast is fucking embarrassing, which sucks because the game itself looks pretty decent

"shes putting turrets under the bus, which is super rude"

okay guy

It is more than likely going into closed beta by January at the latest. No way would they come swinging out with all this info so soon without a date to work towards.

So they totally lifted the TF2 game mode, cart on tracks and all?

Do we know for sure if all heroes are open or need to be bought? They could have let them have access for all is part of the demonstration and getting to know the game.

So we have a playable gorilla in the game. What other animals would you like to see played? I think a tiger would be awesome.

Winston is an incredibly common black first name in the Caribbean and in the UK. Which that site mentions.

No different from if they had named the gorilla character Tyrone or Jamal.

the two examples of winston on the site are the wolf from pulp fiction and the dude from 1984. Maybe, just maybe, it's a name people of multiple races use.

Looking forward to seeing teams consisting of nothing but Hanzo's, Reaper's and Widowmakers.

I laugh because this is going to be true ;_;

Could be interesting, still not sold on FPS that rely on skills with cooldowns, it's just a nightmare to balance and goes against what I think makes an FPS interesting. I will certainly give it a chance.

I really don't get the love for the art style, to me it seems all over the place with no sense of direction, just clobbered together.

Besides TF2 being a stand out in my mind, are these types of games (arena shooters?) that popular anymore/still? Or is this just the Blizzard magic that always excites regardless?

It's just a few people seems like. 6v6 is tried and true for competitive online fps an I am glad they went with this.

where was this sentiment around Titanfall launch? I personally think it is gold, but back then it got a lot of flack for not being battlefield levels of players. With well designed maps, it never feels empty, but you always can personally impact the outcome. Whereas when I play BF4, there are so many people anything you do doesn't feel significant to the overall match.

People really complaining about the graphics? Looks great to me. Also quick glance at Twitch shows me most popular games don't have too great of graphics but that doesn't stop them from being fun.

Agreed, awesome to get all this info at once.

I wonder if this could launch late next year? Depends on when the beta is I guess.

Well, they certainly haven't stopped being fun. Ship one in an attractive package like this from a developer you can trust will support the game diligently, not hard to see why people are excited.

Or Micheal. Or Christopher. You're reaching.

Real talk: I can think of more Asian characters named Winston in video games than I can think of black characters named Winston

Dunno if you can even answer the question since there aren't that many of "these types of games" out there. The best comparisons are probably TF2, Monday Night Combat, and Dirty Bomb, but that's about it.

Love the character designs. The robot monk is so rad.

It all comes down to the gameplay. if it is on the level of TF2 im in.

Gearbox's upcoming "no really its not a moba" Battleborn

Samurai, talking gorilla, robot, one-eyed dwarf, techno angel, evil gunslinger, guy with gigantic shoulder pads, woman that fight wearing high heels, blue and orange everywhere, they just can't contain themselves, fanfic grade stuff.

Lived in the UK for almost 21 years and I have never, ever, met a black person called Winston. I've always associated it as a non-skin-colour-associated name.
