Ok, she may be good, but I was more impressed by the relaxed arrogant tough talker attitude. D1 sounded like the one who had something to prove.

Like how is this possible. I have only played the Smash Games in mutliplayer mayhem fun, but this really makes think they cant be competitive at all if some 10 year old is beating well adults..

On top of that Smash is just a button masher.

Because a 10 year old can't understand a game at a competitive level?

Yes, Smash 4 has a drastically lower skill ceiling compared to Melee, but she's not playing at a level anywhere close to your average 10 year old.

I love her attitude when she demands the audience to chant her name after everyone was just chanting "D1." You go.

And it scares me that Brawl came out almost 7 years ago... and she probably already mastered it by age 7...

I just don't see what the fuss is about. Is it her age? Competitive gamers tend to be young anyway. I was also very competitive at fighting games when I was ten. That was back in the day, we pretty much used to sleep in the arcades playing Street Fighter 2, King of Fighters & Samurai Spirits. We used to play tournaments for real money. Knew those games like the backs of our hands.

It's the fact that she managed to pick up diddy for the first time after watching someone else play and wreck other players.

She's naturally talented for her age. Plus she's a girl in a predominately male demographic. It's an interesting look.

Not knowing the SSB or heck, any FG scene, I see a thread like this I apply Occam's Razor to reverse the thread title. "Top SSB players aren't actually any better than random 10yo".

And in light of the bolded part, I in turn apply Occam's Razor to conclude that you're probably wrong.

And may i add, in light of the bolded part, that (fortunately) is not mandatory to have to reply, if you "know nothing" about something, all you have to say is nothing.

I think you have some interest in philosophy, read this little book, i hope you can find funny and useful (for me it was)

PS Go Karissa the destroyer, smash them all

It seems like not a lot of kids these days play games like that anymore though, I was like that as a kid as well but my 8 year old cousin still hasn't grasped the fact that you have a run button in Mario 3D world, despite playing it for hours on end.

That might be why people see it as a bit interesting? I also assume a lot of kids are like the ones I know that only know how to play smart phone games and are completely awful when buttons are introduced into the mix.

Dude, she's playing with skill. How can you not see how she dodges things and reacts so fast to opportunities? She also employs a lot of tactics your average player doesn't even use.

She's good. Doesn't mean the game isn't competitive because a 10-year-old is really good at it. 1v1 her, breh.

Faster reflexes, equivalent or better pattern recognition, no need to look cool. I don't see this being that unbelievable.

This is very true btw.
I bow at Karissa's level of adaptability with the game, and i do believe she is naturally talented and very fast thinking, but i remember those days too and as you said we spend most of the day in the arcades, plus we had the benefit of the young age.
I was a local SF champ back then and i was destroying older players all the time, while now, at almost 34, i literally struggle.
I don't give up, i love these kind of games and as long as I'm having fun, i don't care if I'm average at best, but you have a point. Age does matter. Kids are like sponges, if they are interested in something, they can be very good at it.
I'm also very glad that this 10yo, who could be tapping some nonsense on daddy's tablet, actually is interested in a game like Smash. There is hope in the world.

Whoa.
I don't play Smash competitively but I consider myself to be kinda good at it (the majority of the time I curbstomp my friends, both with and without items and both in Melee and Brawl) but seeing the video, she'd wipe the floor with me.

Smash 4 plays incredibly differently from Smash 64 or Melee. I'd argue it's more brainless in the sense that the game rewards the shit out of camping and not really doing anything over "button mashing".

Smash by design doesn't reward button mashing, it's just not how it works.

Is it much different in terms of skill or learning curve? Because I killed at Smash 64 and Melee, in fact, I was totally that friend you would throw a controller at when you got mad.

Seriously I can't see a 10 year old beating me in any game...

Maybe later teens but at 10... dear god. It just makes me question how legit smash bros high level play even is..

Sorry she may be awesome but what 10 year old will beat an adult at any complex competitive game... seriously.. I must not understand how smash bros is played.

that's awesome.

that's really an awesome story. Her being just a random 10 year old and beating top guys.

But i like the fact that there is 10 year old girl interested in playing Smash Bros. It's nice to know that they haven't all been brainwashed to think Kim K's game is something worthwhile.

See I saw you edit this on, if you would have just left it at that, it would be fine really but since you edited that in, it will just make you look like a dumbass on a video game forum filled with people who have played in the FGC, not saying you're but becareful with your words.

Game always looked legit casual to me.. can't say this doesn't do anything but prove that point.

People will try to say that it's like a mix of all the games, but the game is heavily influenced by Brawl, just without some of the awful stuff in it.

It's not as fast or as technical as the first two games, learning curve is similar to Brawl and the skill ceiling is drastically lower than Melee.

If you were good at 64 and Melee, it's likely you'll be good at Smash 4 though, a lot of the base stuff is there. Though if you try to play it like either of those two games, you won't do well, the game does not really reward offensive play in the traditional smash bros. sense, it's more about poking to death and defensive play for the most part.

Some people just know certain things, they make sense to them. This girl knows Smash (and probably other things outside of gaming that explain why she is this good at it). Some people can just pick up a guitar and "get it", it's just logical to them. Most people don't really have a natural talent, this girl does.

I'll be frank, you don't. There definitely is a lower learning curve in Smash 4 but she definitely is a good player from the footage I've seen so far.

Unless someone else knows of any other competitive game where a 10 year old can win against adult 'pros' I think my opinion won't change. I really would like to know how legit these videos are though. Is she really versing top tier pros? Cause if so..

lol and that guy calls himself a pro player? lol so bad.

Noah was 8 years old when he beat several top players in UMVC3. And he is quite skilled in other fighting games.

Kayane was around the same age when he was beating up on top players in Soul Calibur 2 which she became world champion before she was 13 at one point.

Jayce the Ace was less than 16 when he beat several top players in SFIV.

There is a very young, around 13 years old Filipino Tekken player who made it to the Global championship. There is also another young Tekken player around the same age who is also as good.

Sonic Fox is 16 years old, started earlier than that and he has won several majors in several fighting games in the last two years.

I can list more and more young competitive gaming prodigies. It isn't far fetched to see a 10 year old kid play Smash at a very high level.
That's all very interesting.

I'd also add Starcraft 2 player Life to the list. Life played his first televised match when he was 15, and is probably the best starcraft 2 player there is now at the age of 17.

And there's obviously chess, with a bunch of examples, most notable probably being Bobby Fisher starting to show up on the scene at age 12 and becoming a grandmaster at age 15.

She's not beating actual top players quite yet, but I really hope she sticks with the scene because she very well might someday soon.

No, not even close.

You obviously weren't around arcades in the 90s. I had no problems beating adults and teens at sf2 and mortal kombat. And those were far more competitive than smash bros.

Just done her midichlorian count. Over 20,000.

Not even master Miyamoto has a midichlorian count that high.

Lol!

I wonder if her talent would translate to any other fighting games. How well do you think she would do in competitive Ultra Street Fighter IV play, given enough time to practice and learn the game?
