Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

They're trying in their special Blizzard way.

For example, when they modeled her for Heroes, Sylvanas now has clothing under her bikini armor!
What happens when they release a Succubus Sylvanas skin though?

the game looks great, loving the art style. this is like your favorite director making a genre film hes never done. i am a huge fan of blizzard old and new, so i am really digging it. i dont know what some of you are complaining about but the world needs more tf clones, it shows the originality of that game. also reminds me of a fps power stone.

How can you hate Bastion? He's a robot that can turn into a gatling turret and loves birds.

Thematically he seems like a really cool character. But in terms of game play, based on the preview of his abilities, he looks incredibly dull. His "ultimate" is particularly underwhelming.

But hey, this is still in alpha, so I expect that he (and a few of the others), will see significant rework before beta and gold.

I'd like to see an additional configuration for his ultimate instead. Maybe something that gives him a bit more mobility, like transforming into a faster moving vehicle that sprays bullets to the sides, driveby style.

Turn him into a gatling tank. Yes.

He reminds me more off Brass Beast Heavies in TF2, can dish out tons of damage but very slow which makes them easy targets for Snipers and Spies. Though I think Bastion's frontal shield kinda nullifies the fact that he'll be an easy target for long ranged characters, you still have to get a good flank on him.

Anyone else pick up a time splitters vibe from this?

Would love to see what the thought process is behind a new franchise at Blizzard in the modern day world.

Focus group tested to the Max???

I don't really want that because it will make their game generic.
The thing I like about BLizzard beside the cool gameplay is the lore of each characters/races.
It makes them unique and you care even for some villain like Illidan.
I want them to find a way to make us like those new characters beside just being bots/skins we play.

League has successfully managed diversified gameplay and solid lore with it's addition of new characters. In LoL, old content is constantly being updated/reworked. I certainly see the parallels with this game and LoL in terms of character classes & design, as well as the lore. It's evident from the material Blizzard has put out that these characters occupy a thoughtfully-crafted world.

According to the panel, no. The intent is not to make the heroes customizable in battle at least. HotS has more down time, while they want Overwatch to be highly frenetic with very little down time.

I was kinda thinking like load-outs in TF2, before you go into battle.
Any hints of that?

I think his ultimate is just fine as long as it's very damaging.

I've had a few days to process this game. Watching trailers, watching gameplay, reading the official website, etcetera.

I still like the look of this game, very much. I enjoy the designs of all the playable characters, and I enjoy their gameplay archetypes. I could see myself playing a good number of these characters.

Also, was gameplay for the control point maps shown? I get the feeling that this game will be a "faster" version of Team Fortress 2. I watched that shoutcasted payload game and I think it ended in eight minutes, with the clock running out. It's been a long time since I've played TF2, but I distinctly remember games in TF2 generally being like 12-15 minutes average. Maybe I'm wrong.

Blizzard seems to be doing that with their non-RTS competitive games, in that they make the completion rate very fast. Heroes of the Storm is a MOBA game that seems to have games that generally last 12-20 minutes max, and that's a genre where games take twice as long at the minimum, I've found. Granted, I've never played League but I did play DOTA...and quit, because the games took too long for my tastes.

In any case, I still very much like this game. I am eager for more!

After playing HotS im preparing to be dissapointed

I love team based shooters, and between this and Gigantic its looking good for the future

Has a large amount of female characters.

They all have the same body type, except perhaps Tracer, and are far, far less diverse a set of characters when compared to the male ones.

~ One step forward and two steps back ~

So is it confirmed not all classes are unlocked at the start? You will have to buy/grind to unlock more ala lol?
1.) Officially there's nothing known.

2.) The people who nailed their rumors about the game said it's f2p.

3.) Blizzard has two other f2p games and they operate on buying more options, and they're talking about how they intend to keep adding more characters to this.

Looks awesome and to me, much more appealing than Team Fortress.

Yeah all cool or muscle... They are still as much stereotype as the female ones.

Ah just watched the gameplay trailer. Man has Blizzard ever made an original title? They never push the boundaries. just release well polished games

still slightly interested

To be fair, out of the 7 male characters there are two robots, one space gorilla, a sci-fi dwarf and some guy wearing what is probably power armor.

They were getting called out in Q & As for homogenous female body types multiple times across different panels at Blizzcon. If they weren't aware of the issue before, they're definitely aware of it now.

Let's hope that they include opposite sex versions for the class. Then there will be less to complain about. I honestly want to see a female variation of Reaper.

Need to know if it can retire as a sex robot after the war is over.

Why do you need to know the gender for that =p ?

It's been repeated before, but they're 'heroes' not 'classes'.

Hence why all the MOBA comparisons.

Unless you're thinking of something like Superman -> Supergirl, Batman -> Batgirl?

Im curious. what other female body types could they use or do you want to see?

Pharah seems like she may be super muscular underneath that armor.

Tracer is skinny/athletic

Mercy is a little chubby

Symmetra and Widowmaker are voluptuous

Well, they could have like, anything. The entire current female cast is pretty (or sexy) and falls within the 26-34 year age span. Meanwhile:

Dude, all the females seem to have the exact same body shape.

It's clearest seen in the behind shots - they all got the exact same spandex-clad butt.

They are all skinny hourglass females. The males have a much greater variety in body type.

We need more female dwarves is what you're saying.
It's a wild idea, I know. Or what about an old woman? I'm not sure if I can handle a character like that yet, though.

TBH I like most of the designs. Symmatra wears like an evening dress, but I think it looks great, and I enjoy that Pharah mains a rocket launcher (the only female character I associate with that weapon is Lucy in Quake 3). But particularly diverse they're not.

WoW:

Heroes (second one, first was from Blizzard Dota):

I think this is stupid.
Give her a proper armor or leave her as she is, just putting a cloth shirt under the metal bra just to calm down the fiercest feminists is stupid.
The "this-armor-doesn't-really-protect" problem persists.
