Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

Ugh, the werehog sections would've been more tolerable if they were just shortened up. Hearing they somehow made them WORSE just makes me want to stay further away from this game.

How is it 2014 and some people are still surprised when a new Sonic game comes out and is pure junk?

Seriously, they are batting like, 1 in 10 good Sonic games.

I loved Sonic Generations, but I do know some Sonic fans didn't like the whole Boosting style of gameplay; mainly retro Sonic fans who believe Sonic is more than just a speeding car. Solid platforming and precise control is also important in a Sonic game. I have a feeling Sega listened to these fans and Lost World was the result. More control over Sonic, much more platforming, but now feels way more like a Mario game than a Sonic game...

Hmm, good point. As someone who's been playing since the first Genesis game, I was just happy we got a Sonic game that didn't suck ass, regardless of whether it was a platformer or not.

I dunno. I'm really not feeling the burn from lack of platforming because I get plenty of that elsewhere; Mario, for example. I can't get the Generations gameplay anywhere else, and it (and Colours/daytime Unleashed) was the only good Sonic gameplay we've had in ages. If they keep trying different things and make an awesome platformer? Great. But at the moment they have something that's fun and works for them. I really don't think they should toss that out so easily. At least make something else using it.

SEGA should let Sonic rest for some years until they know what they want to do with it.

They do know what they want to do with it. They want to milk that fucker dry. They barely produce anything of value anymore and Sonic is one of their cash cows.

The fans lap it up and pretend everything is alright and buy the games without fail.

Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku, Hatsune Miku and Shining series aren't of any value?

I really do not understand what the fuck is going on in this game. Things are happening with no rhyme, reason, or explanation. I get that we already know the characters, but this is supposed to be its own universe or something, so why is there no effort to establish this world or anything in it? That entire Shadow encounter made no damn sense. He just showed up and attacked Sonic because... he has friends? What??

Yeah let's stick to the cartoon.

I'm still getting the 3DS ver., demo made it not look as dull as LW.
I thought the demo for the 3DS version was mindblowingly awful. Seems like the worst 2D Sonic since the Game Gear days. In fact I cant think of a 3D Sonic that left me with a worse first impression.

Nintendo what was the actual point in moneyhatting these sonic titles?

Also what we are seeing here is the birth of Sonic '14. Tis a thing of beauty ;__;

Because he's the coolest.

Why do people excuse garbage as a "kids game" when most of us probably played Yoshis island, Mario 64, sonic 2, super metroid and such as kids? This is a travesty.

Definitely not in the western market where this is being developed. Why do you think everyone is still upset about Yakuza?

...but we're getting VC1 on Steam! With more SEGA games to come!
...and the new Miku game is releasing a few weeks too!
...and in 2015, we're getting those kickass SEGA 3D Classics and OUTRUN on the 3DS!

Why can't sega just stick to success formula and refine it?
Sonic generation, Sonic all star racing, those are great received and sold well, just do more of that.

I will say that the combat looks pretty shitty and how enjoyable the game is will depend on the ratio of combat to platforming and exploration. Something along the lines of Heroes would be what I'm hoping for.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric lOTl Sonic '14

I have a feeling the OT is going to try some full on apologetics here. It's going to be an interesting contrast if the hype and interest from the OT is not even found by anybody else playing the game. Has that even happened on GAF before? Usually bad games get berating topics, and I don't think HUELEN is aiming to be shady about the game at all.

It makes me a little sad, because it literally might be HUELEN vs the world here.

We're getting a sequel to Lost World next year. A refined and improved Lost World should be a successful formula.

How about they just stop making sonic games for a while. Sega has tons of other good ip's. As stated before, super monkey ball and billy hatcher could have received sequels.
Those games are better than the gamecube sonic games and quite frankly better than the majority of 3d sonic games.

I don't understand.

Honestly, it looks like it would have been a decent game if they hadn't cancelled the PS4/X1 version in lieu of the exclusivity deal. It must have been painful for the team to downgrade to such an extreme just to get it running on the WiiU. The performance is so abysmal, it couldnt be any clearer that the WiiU was not the lead console.

The performance is the absolute least of this games issues. The antiquated, uninspired and lazy design would still look shit no matter how much you cranked the shaders up or the amount of flops you threw at them.

Miku games are probably low-budget efforts. Same goes for the 3D Classics. VC is probably easy for them to bring over to PC and is more understandable since the Steam market makes it a worthy investment for them.

Big budget console projects like Yakuza? Not so much. Sega's western branch has downsized hard.

I'd like to think even flawed games deserve fair OTs unless it's something laughably bad like Ride to Hell.

Looks dire. The cartoon was pretty fun though.

It's amusing that they had a great cartoon villain name in Robotnik, phased that out in favor of Eggman, then abandoned his egg-shaped physique. His name is no longer sinister and it's not even descriptive. Like it's just his second name.

His name is Eggman because he looks like an egg and a lot of his mech have an round look to them. And he still has his egg shaped body. Hell, even Boom kept it (though it looks like an upside down egg on a cup)

It's honestly the only redesign I like out of all the ones from Boom.

SMB had games on 3DS and Vita recently and they both bombed critically and commercially. Nobody would buy a new Billy Hatcher even if it was good. Mascot platformers don't sell these days if it's not an established name. Even the Rayman name barely sells these days and that's with critically acclaimed games. What chance would Billy Hatcher have?

Yakuza is a flop over here.
Hatsune Miku- never heard of it.
Shining Force- heard of it, but let's not pretend it's some massively successful ip. It's still an obscure title for anyone other than the hardcore.

The golden age of Sega is well behind them.

From my perspective, Eggman was just never meant to be sinister in the first place, so I think the name's far more suitable than "Robotnik". Eggman works much better as a comic relief villain. His dialogue has been the saving grace of just about every Sonic game script since Mike Pollock started voicing him.

It is funny how Boom Eggman doesn't even look like an egg, though

You're right. I don't understand why but your right. This game would sell way than the other mentioned games.

How about Legman?

Oh wait, that would describe every other redesigned character also.

He looks like a piece of quesadilla. There's really nothing eggy about his new design, especially if you see him in motion. He actually looks more swole than Knuckles.

And the Sonic Cycle continues.

It's amazing to think that Sonic vs. Mario used to be a serious debate among gamers.

* watches*

Oh wow , thanks shadow for confirming the story for the next few games.

Also he totally has a moveset.huh

we'll see where this goes

I love how they make a giant spaceship but don't give it ANY sound effects. Holy crap.

I was more aghast at the shadows and incredibly lifeless animations for a vehicle that can move in the air. It looks so..stationary for something that's supposed to be anything but.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It looks so simple... Not menacing in the slightest.
