Of course people wouldn't be hating on it as much, because it would be ignored. A terrible game with no establish brand tied to it just gets completely ignored. The only reason people are even trying this game is because it's Sonic and it's highly marketed.

I haven't played it yet, but these videos and Sonic's reputation sure don't make it difficult to understand why people are giving it such a hard time.

I don't think it is terrible. I think it's average. Ok. Run of the mill. Standard. I definitely feel people are exagerrating things. But I do agree that it would be ignored without the Sonic name. Average platformers are.
 
Well, that's the first video I've seen of Sonic Boom.

I made a "Seriously?" face, then sat open-mouthed in horror for about 20 seconds and closed the tab.

Perhaps SEGA saw they weren't going to sell a substantial amount of copies on the Wii U player base so they simply released whatever they could without spending much to fulfil the 3 game contract and go back to multiplataform game development.

How is this worse than the 3DS version? Honestly my time with the 3DS version is my worst first impression of a Sonic platformer since.......jesus I don't even know. Gotta be one of the shitty Game Gear games.

Compare the game gear games to sonic '06. That's how the 3ds one seems to compare to this one. Not even a contest.

Yeah, it definitely feels that way. Hopefully we get something good next time but the only good sonic game since forever has been generations and something tells me that was a onefor
 
I like to pretend in my head that this string of mediocre-to-terrible exclusive Sonic games are Sega's passive aggressive way of getting back at Nintendo for the 90s.
 
So is there going to be one Sonic Boom |OT| for both (different) games? If not you're going to have to fit (Wii U) into the title which makes the character limit even smaller.

I'd take Sonic 06 over the Game Gear games other than he first so......this analogy sort of works for me but not in the way I think you were hoping.

Sorry but I think the Wii U version looks way more fun. Who knows though. Maybe if feels worse than it looks. The 3DS version certainly didn't look quite that bad before I played it. Actually playing it....jesus.

You are definitely the outlier on this one man. I guess it'll be good for them to get at least one sale (rental?) out of this though.
