My family is all out of state so I don't get to do anything anyways. Maybe I should try going shopping :/

Is it wrong to flip BF deals? I don't feel like it should be since you're going through a lot of trouble to actually procure the item.
Kind of a self-perpetuating machine, that. BF deals require more and more trouble to get because more and more people are buying them to resell.

If the profit is worth your time and effort, and you have a clear conscience about feeding a cycle that guarantees people's efforts to get these deals are exponentially more futile, I guess go for it.

Perfect. A day where people gather in a table and be grateful for the things we have and for our loved ones, is instead replaced by "FUCK YOUR FAMILY, THIS 50 INCH TV IS 75% OFF! EVERYBODY PANIC!"

-_-

Wow.. awfully cruel.

I live about a block away from a Target and I think they did the same thing last year. I considered going over to take advantage of some deals but I took one look at the line and turned right back around.

Only the criminally insane still venture out for BF sales. It's like a real life version of "The Purge".

Is that AC Rogue for $35? Right between Watch_Dogs and Mordor?

Damn... game's not even out yet. I was considering pre-ordering at Best Buy today, but not now.

Because extra people won't be working on thanksgiving for online purchases? It doesn't matter how you buy your goods, you're still forcing additional, longer shifts if you make a purchase around this timeframe.

I won't buy anything on that day, period. I will send my message however little it may be.

This stuff is kinda not too exciting to me. I hope Amazon price matches the controller, no way am I doing Black Friday in person.

It's everyone's choice to make. Don't blame the stores, blame the people who would leave their family to save some money.

Fuck, I want that TV (and the X1) but I know it'll be gone by the time I get there. The TV definitely will be, the X1 probably will be.

I hope Congress passes a law that lets us be thankful on other days.

This. I never celebrate any bs holidays, especially not ones as morbid as this one.
Not the point. There are very, very few days where an entire nation gets work off and everyone can be together.

Thanksgiving was one of those days. Now it's not. I don't think people are upset because it's a "holy day" or whatever.

Have you ever actually been in a store on black friday? Just stay away from Walmart and it's just a normal day of shopping with lots of people in the store. The few I've been to have just been a bunch of people waiting in line outside the store, then they open up and people walked to grab the thing they wanted. Unless you want one of the doorbusters deals, you don't even have to get there before the store opens.

still is bud....we have an early thanksgiving with our family and all head out black friday shopping as a family....traditions just change to have fun. We all go black friday shopping together to have fun now, we just walk around see what everyone has....we don't give two shits about the rush at doorbusters....I just nab those online most of the time in the morning.

I know. I never said I blamed solely on the stores.

I mean why even have thanksgiving? Honestly? Is there a point anymore? With Black Friday pretty much being THE defacto national holiday now, the only thing Thanksgiving is good for nowadays is free Turkey/stuffing. No one seems to care anymore about the actual meaning of the holiday.

It might as well be as relevant of a holiday as Christopher Columbus day. I find it pretty sad. :(

Ugh. I'm sorry, but that's disgusting. Poor people have to work so I can save a few bucks on video games... Not pointing you out in particular, but it's an incredibly ugly trend.

Some stores pay time and a half on holidays. When I worked retail my store paid double time and a half plus fed us turkey. We used to fight over who got to work lol

Yes, for some. My family eats our Thanksgiving "lunch" around 3-4PM at my grandparent's home which is a two hour drive. If I worked retail, this would not be possible.

But before it was true for everyone. Now it's not. Therefore, to some people, it's upsetting.

I think the poster was more referring to the people who have to leave their families early on Thanksgiving so they can go to work. They don't really get a choice in staying home for Thanksgiving or not. They're forced to because the company and the people shopping there can't wait another twelve hours before getting a deal.

I mean that's fine, but you said in the post I quoted you were going to shop online :p

Just trying to make it clear that shopping online doesn't make everything ok - you're still contributing to the problem (if you perceive it as one)

Held off on buying Disney Infinity 2.0 to see if there was a Black Friday deal on it. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with my decision to wait. :D

In Canada they start Boxing Day sales at 5pm PST (online) on Christmas Eve. How many turkeys get overcooked because people are too busy buying things online? At least stores don't open on Christmas Day.

With online shopping cutting into retailers' profits and the time creep (competitors outdoing each other with opening times), it was only a matter of time before someone opened on the actual holiday. I feel sorry for whoever has to work that day.

Don't you see this as incredibly ironic that were going out and rushing to the stores to buy a bunch of stuff for cheap , on thanksgiving of all days? I can't believe no one else sees this as a giant joke.

Nice XB1 deal. Shadow of Mordor and The Evil Within are very tempting at $25. I was hoping the games releasing on the 18th would also be on sale though, but I guess it's not too surprising.

AH, you meant the folks who work retail.....I'm sorry. If I worked retail...then yes, I think it would fucking suck....most of the time they actually start work that Wednesday night for setup, not just thanksgiving...its brutal working in the retail industry. I do enjoy shopping and doing stuff with all of my family...none of them work retail, but it does suck that some don't get to enjoy that fun and time anymore with their folks.

So glad I skipped that Target B2G1 free deal. $25 for Evil Within and more? Yes!

And it's official- GTA5 + TLOU PS4. Again, so glad I just resisted the temptation to cave in last week. Amazon will for sure price match these deals.

How does Amazon's price matching work? I'd much rather go that route.

I've worked retail and it's one of the very few times a year to actually get holiday pay and lots of overtime leading up to it.

the employees that really don't want to work it can usually give the shift to someone who does.

Why not do both? Target has a lengthy return policy. My receipt says return by February. They also prorate the return value so you can keep our return as many games you like and get the deal. There's no guarantee you'll get it on Black Friday either. I say buy now, and return if you get it on Black Friday. You can even just return the copy you get on Black Friday so you don't even need to wait to play it.

Not really a gain, considering most stores paid the holiday rate and fed their associates on Black Friday, before Black Friday became Black Thursday. We lost a holiday and gained nothing.

They don't have a policy to pricematch everything, but they end up offering the same or a better price through limited quantity deals over the course of Friday-Monday. You save the trouble of going out on Thursday night, but it's annoying in a different way because you need to know the exact time to be at the computer. The good deals still go really quickly.

Agreed. It gets pushed back earlier each year too.

I used to work for Target. I opened Black Friday for the past 5 years. Seriously, it sucks a large amount of ass when you have to skip your Thanksgiving for this.

Out of the past 5 years of working retail (which I finally got out of this year), I noticed a something about Black Friday. People always buy shit regardless of what it is just because it is cheaper and popular. People will fight over stuff and purchase them even if they don't want it, and then return it three days later which screws the folks who really wanted those items over. Ugh.

As someone who has worked security the phrase 'doorbuster' just rubs me the wrong way as a disgusting hyper consumerism buzzword that makes light of what it actually is; mobs busting down doors.

The South Park Black Friday episode is seriously not that far off from reality,

My love of gaming and my past experiences are at war right now... time for another shot of tequila...
