Well, Spartan abilities seem mostly geared towards movement, minus ground pound and charge. As long as thats the case, I can absolutely see them working.

Plus, no crappy ordinance and drops? Fantastic.
 
Okay, I'm convinced. It looks fun, and fresh. But I'm not sold on that post-match "celebration pose" thing, which is a pretty mild complaint.
 
Here is what I have so far...

GENERAL
  • still red vs. blue
  • shields remain at top mid of screen
  • even abilities all the time
  • radar and no radar setting shown, radar remains at bottom left
  • 4PM - playtest everyday.
  • pro team - go to resource e.g. callouts
  • callouts all created by pro team at 343i
  • Perfect Kill = new medal for perfect 4 shot kill
  • descope returns
  • game text feed on bottom right
  • personal text feed on bottom left
  • new slayer gametype
  • no more ordnances
  • power weapons on static timers
  • can carry 2 primary weapons (no mods/packages needed)
  • medals feed now middle bottom of screen
  • appears to be a faster pace overall
  • Carry 2 frags and 2 plasma grenades
  • new spectator mode
  • 5 seconds respawn for normal death

MAPS
  • Truth = Midship remake
  • New map shown, simulation design style

SPARTAN ABILITIES
  • Thruster (works multi direction)
  • Ground pound
  • Clamber (really hard ledge grabs work like classic crouch jumps for good players)
  • Slide (full sprint velocity then crouch to slide)
  • Charge (full sprint velocity then melee to slide)
  • Sprint (while sprinting shield does not recharge, must walk or stop to recharge)
  • Smart scope (hip fire accurate, no penalty to movement), allows descope

WEAPONS
  • AR
  • sniper
  • pistol
  • rocket thingy
  • battle rifle (2X zoom)
  • dmr
  • SMG
  • Prophets Bane - new energy sword and you get increased movement and lunge

BETA
  • Begins 29th DEC 2014 and ends 18th JAN 2015
  • all about new arena experience
  • beta for feedback of balancing, maps, exploits, weapon, abilities
  • nerfed first: thruster pack (quinn), ground pound (josh)
  • the DEC beta will include a basic version of the new spectator mode

I wonder how many games 343i had them play to get a close one so that they could force the "OH SHIT LOOK HOW CLOSE AND COMPETITIVE IT IS" angle?

"Professional Gamers" almost always seem so lame.

I thought that looked really great. After seeing "ADS" in action, I don't see the meltdowns people were having. :shrug: Can't wait to try it out for myself.

Game seems really slow, probably due to sprint. ADS seems to make it slower too but maybe that's just my mind because the base speed is slow.

Not a fan of the hit noises either. Needs to be taken out of Halo CE and Halo 5

Looks crazy fast paced and really different.

But now that Halo 1-3 (and 4) are on the xbone, I don't really care if it's different if it still feels like Halo at it's core. When I wanna play the older stuff, I'll just go do that.

Naw, sprint has no place in Halo. I am very on the fence about thrusters. Ground pound looks like the most foreign thing that I see brought into halo into this game so far, but I'll have to play it to get a feel for it. Lets hope they actually make changes if we don't like it.
 
midship just loses so much with that level of speed

everything just ends up feeling claustrophobic really

Pit might have been a better showcase for this sort of gameplay

Whoever made that Smash analogy is right. Halo 5 is looking like the 'Smash 4' of the series. I'm okay with this.

My only requests: fix that shield depletion noise, and increase TTK.

This, the small bar animation is more than enough. The beep is unnecessary.

Gameplay could be potentially good but I don't think a Midship style map like that looked very good with sprint and thrusters.
 
If World Champion Lxthul says it's good then I #Believe. The 3 week beta means they believe too and aren't just throwing it at the masses and saying accept it and no bitching.

Exactly. I feel like they have perfectly orchestrated the future of Halo, starting with this amazing collection.

I found it amusing that no one even bothered to use the ADS for the assault rifle.

That was comforting at least.

That's actually how it ended up working out. We were worried about not giving them enough scrimmage time. But that's a real game.

I'm excited. Looks like a blast. Halo 4 aesthetic, with Halo 2 vibes. Not sure how the Spartan abilities will play, but I'm optimistic and have faith that 343i is listening to the fans while still trying to change things up.
