Sonic Boom review copies not being sent out; SEGA forcing journos to buy their own

did they release a version of NMH where you didn't have to trudge through the worst open driving experience ever in world history to get to places and missions? ;P

They did, its the HD version with worse framerate, screen tearing and missin audio.

Sorry to break your world OP but publishers don't owe game critics SHIT, publishers don't have to give copies to review sites in fact in some cases they better off ignoring early reviews at all when they don't have confidence in a product, you see that in movies all the time.

I hope this doesn't turn into a console war, but next time I hope they don't make exclusive deals for X Sonic games. Make them as you have good ideas for that specific platform, don't be tied to a deal, otherwise, bad games are likely to show up.

What was the Assassin's Creed controversy?

Ubisoft embargoed the game until after it was released to try and hide the fact that it looks like this:

and runs like this:

my issues were basically that part i mentioned and how the basic goons were so repetitious and strategy-less. The boss fights were cool but there's a lot of nonsense to trudge through to get to that imo

Sega are clearly tired of buying reviews from the gaming press and decided to ignore them instead.

They should go back to bribes....

Konami didn't send out Metal Gear Solid 2 review copies to online game news outlets until launch week.
That's because Kojima didn't want the Raiden reveal to be spoiled. This is completely different, like Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed Unity, it's because they know the game is bad and are trying to prevent bad day one sales.

This industry is hilarious.

I know, right? In what other industry can these major players get away with openly hating their own customers?! If they put as much time and energy into making good products as they did trying to fuck us over, maybe they wouldn't need to hide their games from us (while asking us to pre-order). Such a fucking weird industry at times.

Yikes. Game reviewers aren't entitled to free, early copies of course, but this definitely speaks to Sega's confidence in their product.

Maybe Sega doesn't want the surprise of a good game ruined.

Lol

Sega has such confidence in their game that it is not even sending out review copies.

Ah, what the hell, the metacritic is gonna be in the 90's anyway, what's the point in wasting money printing discs for the reviewers.

The movie industry? Bad movies don't get screened for critics all the time.

Not sending out complimentary review copies is much much better than sending them out with an embargo and other contractual language that taints the review.

Maybe not A+ then, but I'd firmly place it near at least B tier instead of shit tier like most Sonic games.

I quite liked it anyway :)

If Generations had a few more worlds, less 2D in the 3D stages and a final boss that wasn't shit, it'd be absolutely perfect. I'd give it at least a B+

I don't understand the uproar over this. The movie industry doesn't do screenings for stinkers sometimes too. I just wait for word-of-mouth if I had any interest in the product.

the fact he's calling transformed d+ is pretty much solidifying the fact he has no intention of hearing reason

Let alone actually having played them. It's just fun to call out these hollow hit and run posts. It's not like I expect them to respond with any kind of hands-on reasoning or analysis to back up their drive-by comments. Yawn. Maybe one day.

They want to delay the 38 Metacritic score. Big Red Button are terrible. This is the first plaformer I ever played that does not save when you collect collectibles.

I see they're going back to the tradition of Sonic 1 not having a saving system!

We haven't gotten our review copies at GameXplain either. We're not really surprised, though, at least about Rise of Lyric; when Andre and I played it at SEGA's pre-E3 event, we knew it was a mess and that a few more months of development time wasn't going to be enough to fix everything that was wrong with it.

Shame they seem to be trying to sweep Shattered Crystal under the rug too, though. Andre and I both enjoyed it at the event, and I think the demo is fun too.

It's really too bad it turned out like this. I liked the initial Sonic Boom reveal, and I'm all for SEGA trying something new with the franchise as long as Sonic Team keeps getting to make their core/main series games. Oh well - there's always next year for the next Sonic Team game, I suppose. I'll take Generations 2 or Adventure 3, please!

At this point I definitely think Sonic Boom is some weird, "Springtime for Hitler" deal where Sega Team wanted someone else to craft the shittiest, most off-putting Sonic title so that future Sonic Team games would look better by comparison.

Mark my words, we'll see a sudden spike in Sonic Lost World sales. People see Sonic Boom, see how ridiculous it is, but then see Sonic Lost World, with the classic (well, "classic" in comparison) Sonic and, hey, that doesn't look so bad, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I am on the same page as you. It also helps Shattered Crystal has AUTOSAVE. Shattered Crystal is surprisingly solid.

I never like the word 'forcing' in this sort of context when it's clearly nonsense.

However; what on earth is Sega doing with this franchise at this stage. Sonic is just a Smash character now.

Sonic Boom being as bad (worse?) than feared, and Sonic X-Treme finally starting to come to light... the last week has contained the best and worst of the Sonic world lol

In the past month I've seen Sega's name show up in the following titles.

- Alien Isolation (Love it or hate it)

- Bayonetta 2 (Game of the year material)

- Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric (Worst game of the year material)

Dat variable quality.
