Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Thanks mate! Also, forgot to ask for confirmation.. but is it true that there is no Chest or some place to store your forged stuff? Did a round last night on the Bioware forum, and there was some mention about the need to keep selling/destroying stuff due to lack of space.

This thread sez it's true.
"As a long-time packrat RPG player, I was sad to sell my companion’s possessions. In my head I struggled with freeing up one more inventory slot, or selling off The Iron Bull’s namesake axe, or Cassandra’s Seeker shield. Call me a romantic, but those things should be proudly displayed on a wall or at least tucked in a box. To have your own fortress and not have a room to pile your junk can make inventory management a needless frustration."

When asked on Twitter whether there was a "storage chest to hold all of our things in outside of the inventory," Mike Laidlaw responded with "Nope"

The Tactics (picture with preferred and skills on it) and Behaviors menus.

The second picture is no illusion. It seems that there are only 4 rows of Tactics to set for the ai characters. Unless Giant Bomb didn't unlock more, or didn't really scroll down when it sounded like they did.

Edit: The awesome Dragon Age II tactics tree.

Wait, what mod are you using for DA2. The most tactics I was able to get on the screen at once was like...8, and they weren't numbered

I hope I can play as a mage Dalish Elf. I didn't like how in Origins the only way to play a mage was as part of the Circle.

I'm pretty sure that if you are mage you are assumed to have been part of the circle, and not an apostate. If that's what you mean.

The only time you go to play as a de-facto apostate was as hawk, if you were a mage.

Will there be an option to disable friendly fire on harder difficulties or do I need to download a mod on day 1 to make it happen? DA II was unplayable with more than 1 melee due to that. Glad some other people were quick enough to create a no FF mod immediately after launch.

There isn't a single place where to easily get all the class/specialization talents. But you can see most of them here:

and a few missing talents for the Reaver, Templar and Knight Enchanter

Plus our own Dawg posted yesterday the necromancer tree. We are still missing some stuff, like some elements of the Rift mage.

I'm kind of surprised that Kotaku/IGN/Gamespot, etc have not created an article detailing all those trees. Or even better, a Char Planner. They would get a tons of views.

Wow that is a lot.

You can :) From the official website:
"You grew up in the wilderness, a member of the Lavellan Dalish clan and apprentice to its leader and guide, the Keeper. The clan wandered the northern Free Marches, and you had little need to interact with humans—until the Keeper sent you to the Chantry's conclave as a spy. What happened there, she said, would impact not only the Dalish but indeed all elves. She could not have known how right she was."

First Dragon age DLC ultimate storage pack! Just $15!!!!

Ashamed to admit it, but if it's cool, where you cna actually put your old gear on display on the keep... I'd probably pay for it.

Wait what? There is no place to store items? That won't go over well with my OCD for organization. Not possible like Elder scrolls and shove items into cabinets and whatnot for later use?

Well if a thread is created might I suggest folks checking out the YouTube channel for Shoddy Cast? They've been producing some excellent lore videos to the lead up to Inquisition's release and helped refresh my memory on Thedas!

Yeah that video series should be the first thing up there. Gives info up until the blight. Alongside plot summaries for the two main games, plus a bit more info on the many factions/groups in the world it should be more than enough.

for those curious, until the thread is up, this is the link for the series.

I thought the templar's resistance to magic and other quasi-magical abilities are gained through the use of lyrium, no? Otherwise they'd be mages.

Nope. Templar cantrips are things that absolutely everybody is (technically) able to learn, though very few actually do (think martial arts). The lyrium enhances their abilities, but that's it.

Ohhhhh

I wonder if the metacritic average can reach '90'. Would be the first PS4 third party to do so.(not counting re-releases).

It could, there will probably be another 20+ reviews coming in over the course of this month.

It's more likely it goes down a point or two though.

Not that it matters.

Wow, did not know that. Hmmm... Dalish elf mage apostate saves the world.... I like the sound of that.

But why? A big selling point to Soldier's Keep DLC for DAO was that it had a storage chest which was sorely missing from the base game. They then made a point to have one in Awakening and again in DA2. Why BioWare, why. I don't want to be a dick again and sell someones beloved item like Aveline's Templar Shield that belonged to Wesley and then have her tell me hey you sold my dead husbands shield, the last memento of his I had left.

By every race, you mean humans, elves, and the goat heads?

Even though the former two hate each other?

Yep, humans, elves, and Qunari can all be mages.

Being a mage isn't a choice: you are either born one or you aren't. It's partially genetic as mages have a higher chance of having children who are mages, but it's partly just a crapshoot.

And templars also have magic? How do they control the mages?

Partially by deterrence in that they have the legal authority to kill any mages that try to escape the Circle, and partially by their anti-magic abilities (which are basically magic) that can do things like dispel spells or block mana channeling.

When the templars invoke the rite, is that a law passed by a king or what?

The Circles were formed by the Chantry which functions as an independent entity from any country (though it has a strong presence in many countries) and so fall under Chantry jurisdiction. This means that it is typical for rulers to concede decisions regarding mages and such to the Chantry.

The Right of Annulment was granted by a Divine (high leader of the Chantry)in an earlier age to Grand Clerics (regional leaders of the Chantry) and absent those, Knight-Commanders (leaders of the local templar group). So a secular entity such as a King could conceivably intervene to stop the slaughter, but since Circles fall under Chantry jurisdiction it would be considered overstepping his bounds.

So when Anders killed the Grand Cleric in Dragon Age 2 by destroying Kirkwall's Chantry, legal authority to invoke the Right fell to Knight-Commander Meredith of the Kirkwall (city-state where DA2 takes place) Templars. So she invoked it.

Yeah man, I'm surprised there isn't a talent calculator out there yet. I know I'd bookmark that shit and mess with it every day until release.

In the aaaaaaaaaaaaarms of an angel

Best party member in DAO. His AoE barkstun was barkmazing.

So true. The dog was OP and had a lot of funny interactions with the party!

Not counting re-releases.

I don't think anyone should count re-releases like Last Of Us for anything more than "Oh, cool. Old game upgraded with more polygons [and maybe frames]." Maybe I'm just weirdo for thinking that I think it's silly how everyone loses their minds over how "awesome" it's to get remakes of very recent games.

I love the Dragon Age Lore book. I got the limited edition when it came out. Beautiful! There is Volume 2 coming out next year.

Edit:

Ohhhhh

I've read from various people that characters in the world actually seem to comment more on your race/class this time around compared to Origins. Dawg and other players could correct me on this, but that's what I've heard through the grapevine.

What screens did you guys still want? I have everything so there is no limit :p

I was going to try and see if Varric can wear daggers, right.

Ha ha, yeah man I'm definitely still interested to hear if Varric can use daggers. Give me my insane, story-immersion-breaking dwarf!

If you're a Quanri stomping through an Orlesian ballroom they'd darn well better comment. :p

Still have GT's review yet to come out :)

Is it just me or has Metacritic really cut down on the number of outlets being included in their score? I could have sworn you'd find games with 50+ published reviews included regularly last gen, it feels like we're only see a couple dozen for each game this go around.

For someone who never finished Origins, is it worth going back to? I tried starting it multiple times, and while I thought the world was compelling and enjoyed the combat, I gave up on it every time for a variety of reasons: scope of the game is overwhelming, I really hate the Fade, other games came out so I put it down and found it hard to pick back up, etc. This seems like it delivers and I want to try it out some time.

Also, is the DLC any good? I have the Ultimate Edition on PS3 and the base game on Origin but would rather play it on PC. Maybe I'll try getting into Origins again when there's a sale on the Ultimate Edition.

Rest in peace, Dog.

He gave his life for the Hero of Ferelden. Let us not worry though, for he had a good end.

Following the Battle of Denerim, Dog was sent to the Denerim kennels to help replenish the diminished number of mabari hounds. Though he was absent from The Warden's side during the Amaranthine Conflict, he fathered several litters of puppies during this time and returned to his master's side shortly after.

The DLC for Origins is just okay, in my opinion. It doesn't really add much.

Unless you count the Awakening expansion which is great.

Did a little google trends search. Looks pretty good for inquisition to be honest.

Curious how things will be now since the reviews and everything for ACU and DAI have come out, as well as the netcode issues with MCC. Actually surprised FC4 was top of the heap, I'm interested in it. Loved 3, but haven't really been paying any attention to it cause I knew DAI was my priority for the 18th and most of fall/winter.

is the EA access trial up?

Does MS have an app that lets me trigger remote downloads like I can on my ps4?

Bioware's last 14(?) years have lowered my expectations for what they can provide so maybe this will surprise me

I guess I should make a thing on the keep so I can get my progress in if I even remember what I did

Awakening aside, the DA:O DLC was very lacklustre, and also indicative of DA2's direction, such as its massive area reuse even when it made little sense (why is Leliana's Song in Denerim, for example, and why is the Eluvian where you fought the final battle of Awakening. How did you miss it?).

DA2's DLC, however, was pretty damn excellent. The problem was I ended up having to tactically play it at key moments in the narrative so that the main game didn't feel so dull. Either way, it made me optimistic for (what was then) DA3.
