Sonic Boom |OT| Sonic 2014

I'm in the mood for a Sonic game actually but Boom seems to be majorly glitched (what a year for gaming software).

Isn't Sonic Colours on Wii regarded as one of the best Sonic games in recent years? Or is Lost World just as good?
Yes, I would say Colors was the first top-to-bottom great 3D Sonic game.

Lost World is just as good.

Said nobody ever. Buy Colours. Best 3D Sonic ever.

Lost World isn't as good as Colors but still solid. The level design is a bit uneven and the bosses are stupidly easy but the rest of it isn't bad at all.

Colors and Generations are the best, Lost World was just okay.

Thank you guys. I'll be looking into Colors.

Is Big Red Button a Danish developer? I can't seem to find that kind of info on their official website. I think I read a thread here mentioning it was developed in Denmark.

You can say what you want, but the soundtrack is more than serviceable.

Do you have any good examples? From what I've heard, other than a select few 3DS tracks that I posted earlier, it's very generic and doesn't sound nearly dynamic enough for a Sonic game.

You could tell you were in for a treat with Sonic colors because the second you pressed start at the menu screen the game just goes. No cutscene or anything, it just loads in the level and you're off.

Definitely get Colours (and Generations if you can). It's fantastic.

The music is missing that sonic flare...if that makes sense lol.

Makes sense to me

It has some pretty awful design choices. Some of the later level design is absolutely attrocious. The wisps hurt the level design as well and the forced gamepad bullshit really hurt it. Though that aspect was patched out for the most part. Lives system was really poorly implemented too and the game doesn't give you enough lives given the amount of times an average person will die. But again this is something that was patched since now 100 rings does get you a life. The game also locks some parts of the game behind animal requirements, forcing you to play shitty minigames to progress. An awful design choice right there. The controls feel really off at times too, especially in 2D sections.

Lost World definitely isn't what I would call solid. It has highs and lows and overall is worth playing and has a lot of potential, but you have to know you have to put up with a lot of shit. It's a mixed bag.

I honestly have to agree with you there. Sonic Boom has made me realize that Sonic 06 is a guilty pleasure, it's not great but there is a bit of good in there. Meanwhile Boom could have had more development time but I don't think it would have mattered.
Yeah.
Sonic 2006 is like The Room
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is like Foodfight
If you asked me what movie is better, I would say the one that entertained me more.

Oh yeah, I got Generations on PC already. But haven't tried it out at all. Isn't it more of a 2D runner?

I remember how excited I were for Sonic Chronicles and read how that turned out, so never touched it. The last Sonic game I played were Sonic Free Riders for Kinect, because I had to review it. What a nightmare.

I too don't think 06 was as bad as people make it out to be. People act like it was unplayable or one of the worst games ever made. It really wasn't. It wasn't good by any means but it was playable and nowhere near as broken as people say it is. Plus it had Sonic Man.

Sonic 06 is fun to play in company. Getting to the Silver boss, handing the controller to the person who's never seen it before and watching them get pissed off because they have no idea what to do is so entertaining.

Boom looks like it has a lot of funny things about it, but Sonic 06 is the perfect blend of bad, glitchy and still fairly playable. Boom just looks fairly boring. Plus the story doesn't take itself seriously, so no 'dramatic' deaths or interspecies romance. But hearing Shadow talk about how much he hates friendship is funny.

Yeah.

I'd sooner compare Boom to Birdemic. There's humour in it, but I'd rather watch someone else extract it because if you actually try to watch Birdemic, it's pretty damn boring. I've watched The Room all the way through twice now.

It's generic orchestral ambient background noise. This is a tremendous step down in a series known for hummable melodies across various eclectic styles, often times within the same game.

If you play better the lives and animal issue shouldn't be a problem to be honest. The wisps were useless and controlled poorly but as you say that was patched and you can pretty much ignore them anyway. Controls were fine aside from lateral movement being a little slow. Patched Lost World is a decent game and it wasn't even that bad to begin with.

Well, the music isn't very dynamic, that's true. Of course it doesn't belong in a sonic game but in a strange way it reminds me of the Prince of Persia 08 soundtrack and I like that. *runs*

I just realized a hole in the story...
Sonic does not recongnize Lyric at the start. He later travels back 1000 years to imprison Lyric. Therefore, he should recognize Lyric at the start. TIME TRAVEL IS BULLS**T!

The problem is that by the time it was patched I was already done with the game so my opinion of the game as a whole is based on that. It's hard to judge the game based on how it is after the patch because almost my entire playtime with it was before the patch. It's hard to see it as a decent game because my experience with it wasn't decent. Wasn't that bad but I think a mixed, mediocre and disappointing experience is fair.

Time travel was so hilariously unnecessary

That a quote from Somecallmejohnny? Wonder what he thinks of this game...

Guys, what's going on here? I go to bed, and see 3 other boom threads and this. What happened?

Off to play more Rise Of lyric.

Eh, time travel almost always creates holes when it's implemented in games. That's the least of BRB's worries right now I presume.

What has been the most entertaining LP of this game so far?

Game Grumps? Giant Bomb? I want to find the best video to laugh at this game.

Generations is 2D and 3D. 2D for Classic stages, 3D for modern.

If you have it on PC, consider downloading the Unleashed Project mod.

-Touted as a "reboot"
-Convoluted Time Travel plot
-Glitches, exploits, collisioning issues
-Severe performance lag
-A story that makes you laugh, cry and cringe. For all the right and wrong reasons.

This really is the spiritual successor to 06. I can't wait to buy it this weekend.

I really don't wanna see any vids as I don't wanna get spoiled, but seriously? I've only encountered 3 glitches in my entire play through so far, save for one I am going to talk bout now.

Before getting the plane, a plant of Doc Ginger's flickered for like 2 seconds.

How are people finding these things? is Knuc a glitch, or an exploit?

I request and OT title change to

" I love the low road, gets my hands dirty "

With no context given as to where its from

knuckles said it

He also doesn't recognize Lyric in the beginning of Shattered Crystal, which is even more confusing.

To be fair, the first time I played 06, I only encountered frustration with collsion/scripting bugs in Wave Ocean, and the infamous billiards section. Beyond that it was just dealing with load times and slow motion on occasion. Basically, milage may vary with unpolished games.

Sonic 06 is at least it's entertaining to watch, this is game just ughh.

The game is broken as all hell. It's the worst example of a broken game I've seen in years - every single gameplay video I've seen so far has the game literally falling apart.

Terrible, terrible lack of QA.

I'm geinuinely being serious when I say my playthrough of Sonic 06 was near glitch free. Or at least meaningful glitch free. I never encountered a glitch in Sonic 06 that affected the actual gameplay. Some people are just good at avoiding these kind of things I guess.
