Interestingly, one of the guys who said he was streaming the PC version said he had the same 6 hour limit that EA access has. Could that mean a possible timed PC demo? Or perhaps, 6 hours of early access after PC preloading? Or spread andraste's ashes on my face if too speculative.

Are you me? haha... I'm in the EXACT same position - just dealt with the Archdemon (for about the 8th time I think) and now it's either Awakening/Leliana's Song/Emissary et al.... or DA2 - played both before multiple times... only time for one choice!

I finally decided to power through DA2 on Casual, to remind myself of as many subplots and characters as possible from the main games. I'd hate to go into Awakening, Leliana's Song et al feeling rushed at this point. Hopefully I find enough time this weekend to make a serious dent so I can wrap it up on Monday.

As much as I'm looking forward to cameos with familiar characters and places, it's meeting new people and exploring new places in this world that has me the most hyped. I'm willing to give new systems a chance given that they've already made it clear that they're looking to please fans of Origins. Is it absurd that I'm already keen to find out what DLC is coming? And hoping that they give DA4 enough time to make it a worthy sequel, even if the wait is excrutiating?

Not at all, in fact: I was thinking about DLC already and the fact that they have been very tight lipped on it is so rare these days.... it's refreshingly awesome.

Having said that..

...I would welcome news of DLC not long after launch big time, a second playthrough with a rogue Female Inquisitor will be my next port of call (Male Mage 1st playthrough), with DLC added, it always makes subsequent playthroughs feel 'fresh' I reckon.

You'll want to read up on the events in Dragon Age Keep (where you make your world states). There's also a narrator.

You can, just don't expect a beginner's lesson. The Codex will explain a lot, but you're being thrown in media res.

Yes, but it seems you'll have to do a bit of reading as apparently the game sometimes assumes the player knows events of past games.
