Resident Evil Requiem: Review Thread

Debating on whether an 87 - 88 Metacritic score for this tier of game, is a flop.

I'm very excited but Amazon says it won't arrive til Monday. Not sure what's up with Amazon lately. I've been getting all my pre-orders days after release date. And sometimes if you cancel and re-order it adjusts the release date when it's supposed to do that automatically.

I have a PS5 and Switch 2. Hoping its not too different on Switch 2 since I prefer the portability (thanks to the switch 2 I am making my way through games at work).
If the Switch 2 version has motion controls as an option, it would edge out the ps5 version for me. Split joycon with motion would be heavenly here. Eventually, Hoping RE4 on switch 2 does that as well.

Reviews are good but 10 hrs only damn that shit is short
Do you guys really want 30 + hour play time in survival horror game? These games are not RPGs, they dont need to be long games.

For me value of the game is not about how long the game but how satisfying it is.....satisfaction much more important than how long game last.

The SH2 remake took me close to 20 hours and the length detracted from the overall experience. All the RE reviews hint at something significant to drive replay value, so 10-12 hours works in its' favor in that regard. #MGSA (make games short again)

Yeah I liked SH2R a lot but its long length was my biggest issue. No matter how good survival horror is the longer is goes the less scary it becomes.....to me Survival horror needs to be short and sweet, not only makes the experience better but better for replayability.

Padding out the length robbed the enemies of a lot of the tension they created due to reptation. I love how the RE reviews mention unique zombies fulfilling their lived duties (cook, maid, etc.). I'll take that and a short runtime over copy-pasted content ad nauseum.

Fuck it, I'm going to pre-order this.

Many reviewers saying it gets weaker in 2nd half is a bit of bummer(i thought that was true in RE4 as well). Still excited to play it though.

Seems to be scoring well on all platforms

I played that game on the morning of 9/11, while listening to Howard Stern on the radio. I was a senior in high school and was going to not go to school that day because I was up all night and just wanted to finish that game. I'm not saying Dead Aim is the cause for 9/11, but….. I can't rule it out 100%.

Is there any RE game that isn't weaker in the 2nd half? Basically a series tradition at this point lol. The first main interconnected area is always the best, whether it's Spencer Mansion, RPD, Baker house, the castle, the village, etc.

Those are great scores for a RE game. 88/89 will be their best mainline score since OG4 almost 20 years ago.

In terms of quality it sounds like it belongs a tier above 7 and 8 and below the RE2 and RE4 Remakes. I'll check it out when it goes on sale.

I'm just saying for a single playthrough I'm cool with a 15 hr long campaign on a normal run if I'm not rushing it. Without the multiple playthroughs with unlocks and side games. Don't need a 30 got other games that do that. Nothing wrong if a game campaign is good with length lol

I'm actually a loser that loves the island in RE4, but it's not better than the first half/areas of the game.

I'm playing this game on hardest difficulty from get go, so for me 10 hour length is going to be around 16+ hours to beat it, which around same length I beat REVillage on hardcore difficulty.

I will campaign on #MGSA

I'm so fucking tired of bloated ass games that desperately try to pad out the runtime because gamers for some reason associate runtime with value. If we applied that logic to food then the Cheesecake Factory would be the pinnacle culinary experience. What we end up with is games that show their entire hand a few hours in and then just kinda keep going…forever, for no good reason. And now we have absurdly long dev times because of it too so that's nice.
