NY preview this month, LA, Chicago, Philly in early 2015.

PlayStation Vue blends live local broadcast and cable TV network programming with on-demand content and programs that viewers have saved in a cloud-based DVR. Six major content partners are on board: CBS, Discovery Communications, Fox, NBCUniversal, Scripps Networks Interactive and Viacom.
That adds up to about 75 channels including Comedy Central, Animal Planet, Food Network, Syfy and Nickelodeon. Sony continues talking to other major providers with the biggest holdout being Disney, parent company to ABC and ESPN. "It's a pretty robust lineup, by no means do I think we are done," House said.
A "competitive" subscription fee will be announced at a later date, he says. Subscribers will not be charged any setup fee – your game system, TV and broadband connection are all you need – and will not have to agree to a certain length of contract.

Holy shit.... didn't think the PS4 would start their "cable-box substitution" initiative this quickly, but here were are.

This is huge news.

Wait it says you need TV and Internet, so is this in addition to a cable subscription or indepentpdent?

EDIT: excellent. It's a cable rival.

Kinda funny how the PS4 is now more of a cable box than the Xbox One.

I'm considering dropping Comcast cable for this when it's available.

Hmmmm, I know Playstation is a strong brand for Sony but I partly question it to put their TV streaming service under that brand.

Also, I had hoped we had gotten past tacky spelling.

I can get behind this as I don't have a cable box in my room don't want one I'm all for my consoles being the center of my entertainment world in every way possible. Hope it ends up being good content wise.

Was just reading about it. Sounds pretty good. I might axe my cable connection if I can get the handful of channels/shows that I watch.

So this is like Netflix + TV? I'm not really interested in the TV. (Though I don't live in the US so I don't really have to think about it.)

I guess it beats creating a whole new brand, but it definitely clutters the house of sub- brands even further.

I will support this if it means sticking it to DirecTV and corrupt cable companies. Now Sony, create your own Google Fiber-like service and stick it to the corrupt internet companies.

FUCK YOU 250 GB DATA CAP for $40/mo with 15 Mbps!

Under the PlayStation brand? Interesting.
By far the most interesting part.

Three Pillars, yo. I doubt Mobile or Pictures is up to it. PlayStation has by far the most consumer focused market penetration.

No contract. Under PlayStation brand. Not Live TV but On-Demand / Cloud DVR fusion. Besides not having Disney this is more than I could have ever dreamed it to be. Pretty much perfect so far.

Don't get your hopes up. There most likely will be many exclusions and the price may not be as low as you think. If you think any of these "partners" are going to allow their content to be broadcast for less than than the money they would normally get per cable or satellite subscriber, you're nuts. If it were truly feasible, it would have been done already.

I'm concerned about what the PQ is going to look like for this multichannel IPTV service. U-Verse is the only other multichannel IPTV service I know of and the quality is bad.

But regardless, I'm not dropping my FiOS cable card. The cable card allows me to do with my recorded content whatever I want like deleting commercials and permanently save however much content I want on my hard drives.

Is this the biggest cohesive partnership for web-based cable alternatives yet?

The holy trinity

HBO GO 2015

Isn't TV in a game console bad? *Looks sternly at Xbox One*
j/k I like TV in my consoles.

It actually sounds pretty promising, though we sadly won't see this in Canada ever or only see it for years after it happens in the US I would imagine.

How soon after a show is broadcast will it be on Vue? It sounds interesting but I need something to give me sports to cut my cable completely.

So this was Sony's true plan? Guess all the people laughing at MS about TV TV TV need to eat some crow.

More like it's time to laugh at MS for focusing so damn much on TV TV TV at their reveal and they still managed to get beat on that front by Sony, 1 year after release.

Do you need a Playstation device to get this service or have they just slapped the Playstation name on it, because the PS4 is the hot thing right now?

Question. Who's providing your internet for you? What's going to stop them from charging you more to stream this. Comcast and others have a cap. They will just make it more expensive to do this. I realize how negative I'm being, but the reality is the cable and sat companies aren't going to let this happen so easily.

Super skeptical.

Whether it's Playstation TV, Playstation Home, or Crystal LED, Sony's been the king of wasted/languishing potential lately.

I guess one way to put it: see where a service like Crackle is, and expect nothing more or less for this.

So, seems jeff_rigby was right.
