Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 10-16 | Frauds Among Us

Im secretly hoping that before the release of Xrd Akishop or someone will make a PCB that allows PS4/PS3/360 functionality. I dont wanna have to drop 160 on an HRAP. :(

Oh and if it does come to that I'll be willing to sell off my broken(needs new USB cable) PS3 Fighting Edge to anyone that wants it. I know you said you were interested a while back, riceeater

I haven't been keeping up with the stick news but ArcSys didn't flip the magic switch for older stick compatibility?

I guess this is an issue that only affects people getting the PS4 version (at the moment). I just remembered that there's a PS3 version so you don't have to invest in another stick if you're going that route. I understand it would be useful for future games though to have a stick that can work on older and newer systems.

There's also a third division that thinks the effects of bound were blown way out of proportion. I could take it or leave it.
I just wanna play Tekken. I like bound system. But I know the "hardcore" want it gone....which I'm OK with.

Comes out November 14th
Oh damn, awesome.

The 1% that is bad is bad in every community.

The DMC community at its peak was a great place to be. Lots of good discussion about mechanics, sharing of combos/strats/tech and other community efforts. There was almost no hostility among DMC fans and that continued well after DMC4. Then DmC happened and it caused the 1% to come out in full force. People who I have never seen or heard talking shit about DmC which is fine but things got escalated to death threats being sent to NT.

It pretty much resulted in toxic discussion in all DMC forums. Then came the DmC apologists who got over aggressive due to the DmC bashing and felt they had to fight fire with fire. A lot of the DMC fanbase just simply migrated to PG and Bayonetta... most online DMC communities are dead because of this hostility.

Fuck the bad 1%ers who ruin it for everyone. And they exist in every community and medium.
Funnily enough, I agree.
See the problem with the DMC fan is that there are a lot of ignorant people. I saw he fanbase as "The DMC players who know what they're on about" and "load noises/YouTube". Telling me why DmC is a bad game and those people can't even jump cancel. You an still find the good players out there though. Check Twitch and the DMC forums :)

That being said, the DMC community (DMC.org) is one of he most open and welcoming communities you could ever be a part of. Even when it came to discussing why high level players may not have liked DmC, they were still understanding of the game. All good people, but man, he rest of the community. It wasn't even a community, it was more of a mob. The amount insults I got on my YouTube was hilarious. One person even sent me an essay(via private message) on why DmC is terrible + plus hate comments.
*Shrugs*
A good community destroyed/given a bad reputation in a few months.

Demo didn't have ps3 stick support and they have said anything since, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. There's always a chance though!

Truthfully, no group of people actually has a strong opinion about bound. You hear from the casuals the most about their dislike of it, but a lot of that comes from their general hatred of being juggled or memorizing combos. Some top level players love it, but I think a lot of people don't care too much one way or the other.

I'm definitely in the "I'll take it or leave it" camp, but TTT2 is my first real exposure to the franchise. The middle ground "flop" bound shown in T7 looks compromising enough to me I guess.

God Marq Teddy just 5-0'd this fool BushinStyle in a Guy mirror and it was so entertaining.

Edit: Marq is going in so hard

Oh man this BushinStyle vs MarcTeddy lol

Shit is RAW. All natural yo, none of this moderating, pregame and postgame buildups lol

Do you not have a PS3?

All announced PS4 sticks also work on PS3 as far as I know.

EDIT in case I'm a tard (likely): He may want PS4 Xrd because so pixels such wow. Plus strong hardware means less framerate worries.

If he already has a PS3 stick, then his not wanting to drop another $160 makes perfect sense, no?

And if there isn't parity of framerate, Arcsys is going to have hell to pay... the debacle would shake the heavens.

The 64 player lobbies is 32 1v1s in a room, they don't all launch synchronously or wait for end before repairing people. Think GGPO.

Replay annotations are neat.

64 man lobbies are neat I guess

But I can't imagine ever using them

I thought I'd mainly stick to player matches and ranked matches online in P4AU after lobbies were announced for it, but it turns out the vast majority of my playtime is in lobbies. Way easier and faster to get matches in with random people.

Yeah I am sure lobbies will dominate in terms of preferred method for online play.

Player rooms are better if you want to do a really long set I am sure, but most people will spend majority of their time in the lobby.

I really liked some of Sakurai's comments in this article.

Sakurai notes that players may perceive Little Mac to be stronger than he actually is, which has led to the influx of online usage of the character. "It appears that the biggest reason for his low win ratio is because people fall under the assumption that 'Little Mac is strong!' and all rush to use him only to get pummeled in return." Sakurai remarked. "He gives the impression of being able to win easier than other fighters which leads to more people using him, but in reality, he's a difficult character to actually continuously win with."
For Sakurai, the player-perceived imbalance is actually an ideal situation for greater game balance. Having players flock to use one character will teach other players to counter that character and encourage higher levels of gameplay – hence Little Mac's low win ratio.

But it still sounds like he's going to nerf him due to the crying...
According to Sakurai, a situation like this was a possibility that he had anticipated, however players may not exactly share his sensibilities which may or may not end up with the character getting powered down in the upcoming patch. Still, while the perceived imbalance may have been more than initially anticipated, it's better to have characters with different strengths and weaknesses than to have all the characters be the same and end up bland. Or as Sakurai puts it, "I believe that averaging out character stats is a bad move in both play and competition."

I think itll do well for a GG game...that's about it.

I don't mean it'll sell SF4 levels or anything, but I think it will sell pretty well, contextually.

The only thing I would change about Little Mac is the KO Punch. It should either not penetrate shields, or be a little harder to get. It's a bit too much of a comeback mechanic right now.

Sakurai seems hella nerf-happy, which doesn't surprise me.
Oh yeah, we already have like 8 different things listed as getting nerfed. Poor Bowser. :-(

shoutouts to my man RLBS for winning NLBC. I've literally lost thousands of games to him lol

There is actually a Melee group at the school I teach at. One of the teachers lets them bring a Gamecube in during lunch to play on the projector.

body those kids and report back, please

I hope so -- I might pick it up myself, never played an anime fighting game before.

What, is he getting nerfed? Wow, lol. Is there a patch list?
There's no patch list yet, but the Wii U version seems to already have the patch implemented, so people have been noticing some differences between the two versions.

From what I can remember:
-Item throw cancel glitch removed.
-Bowsercide now no longer grants wins on the last stock; sudden death instead.
-Greninja can no longer Shadow Sneak cancel aerials.
-Luma now takes 13 seconds to respawn, up from 8.
-Palutena's attacks all do an extra bit of damage now (1-3% increase).
-Megaman's Rush cancel glitch removed.
-Some kind of Yoshi glitch removed - I don't remember.
-Wario aerial momentum glitch removed.
-Olimar's Pikmin now have significantly improved AI (not sure on the specifics).

According to someone with the game on SmashBoards, air dodge cancels are still in (yay!). There are probably a lot of other changes, but this is all that people have noticed thus far.

Eh, I never played Melee competitively. I don't have any handle on how to play it properly in practice, and one of my students has been a competitive Melee player for years. I don't think I would be doing the bodying. Plus he mains Fox. :-P

tecmo putting DOA5 on steam is a step in the right direction. Hopefully it sells well and Sega and Namco take notice.

Although with the sales of VC and the continued investment in VF, I would hope Sega doesn't need much pushing.

Can't decide whether to get Xrd on PS4 (and play it with pad) or PS3 (stick).

Not like I actually have time to play with people here but what's the divide from FGW look like?

PS3. I have a PS3 compatible stick and I want a PS3 to play (read: fail at) all the games. PS4 has Xrd. PS3 has Xrd, Chaos Breaker, UNIEL, 3SOE, VSav, Dragon's Dogma...

There is no divide, PS3 users can play against PS4 users.
