Microsoft: Xbox One leading sales in US since price cut, nearly 10 million sold-in

Lets get two things out of the way first: PS3 PS+ service can not be questioned as DRM (and if you want to debate that we can do that as well, separately).

Again with the things I didn't say. I never said that it was a form of DRM, those games are rentals, hence game ownership is out of the way. That's all.

Microsoft's model needed changes to make it more consumer-friendly. It's not an either-or proposition, the happy middle ground probably could have been reached had the same pressure been put on them, but directed differently than what ended up being the case.

Speaking of PS+, GwG (the Xbox One version; the superior Xbox 360 version did not do away with game ownership), EA Access and possible similar services, I think that they will be far more prominent in the future, to the point that actually buying games might become marginalized. PS+ and its free games may be just a value added proposition now, but it doesn't take a genius to see where it's all going. As I said in another thread, successfully selling consumers on somewhat bitter pills is all about pacing and presentation. The rug won't be pulled from under our feet, it will disintegrate gradually.

And it didn't start with PS+ either - with the rise of online distribution services it quickly became obvious that everyone wanted to control content delivery. I've been saying for a long time that in the future Live and PSN, or whatever it's called these days, are going to be far more important to Microsoft and Sony than Xbox and PlayStation or any hardware platform (of course, they may actually keep the Xbox and PlayStation brands, but I hope you get what I'm saying). I still firmly stand by that, and I'm not necessarily against such future, at this point it's practically an inevitability that carries with itself some good things and some bad things. But I do find bickering over who is screwing consumers more quite funny, since they're all going broadly in the same direction. We will all eat their shit, and gladly, without even noticing the taste at first.

If Microsoft raises the price back to $399 after the holidays, they're done.

Who in their right mind would buy a $399 Xbox One with no games?

Who would buy one for $299 with no games? Or better, who would not buy now or black friday but wait til next year?

Actually this feels more like a closeout than a temporary deal.

Stuff about Indie Clause

It's painfully obvious how stupid the Xbox One Indie release clause is.

Microsoft basically has free dev kits and free unity, and the PS4 STILL has more indies.

There has to be something going on to make them keep this clause, because anyone can clearly see it's bad for both the indie devs and for Microsoft.

well, lets see how many -in europe- will buy the ps4 bundle with the completely broken game that is currently bundled, and for 449 euros, not 350$
http://www.plaisio.gr/games/playsta...PS4-500GB-Black-kai-Driveclub-PS719815211.htm

So Driveclub is completely broken now? when did that happen? I played it only thirty minutes ago.

I'm starting to wonder if the people calling Unity broken have even played it. It's just fine.

I have it on PS4 and it is not "just fine" the frame rate drops into the teens or lower make it completely unplayable at times. Also falling through the floor into the well of infinity is quite annoying.

I have it on Xbox One and haven't run into any of those issues yet. I honestly felt that the performance delta was overblown, but maybe not.

So just because you didn't experience any problems you decided to ignore the plethora of evidence that says otherwise.

I'm just saying they're cannibalizing future sales by doing this. Sales might be strong now, but if the prices go back to normal, it's going to make the slow months even slower, and that's with 2 big-name PS4 exclusives on the way.

But it's the holiday season, so that's the only one that counts, right?

Is it not obvious that today's media likes to dwell on the cons and not so much the pros? If a Ferrari catches on fire, and is caught on tape, it makes the front page of car websites. The other 5000 458s that didn't catch on fire are ignored.

Are there problems with the game? Yes. Is it broken? No.

Amir0xs Wall of Text :p

Whatever dude! I am describing my viewpoints in great detail with many supplementary links. I think that's better than someone just doin' drive bys :P

I mean I really would enjoy some theories as to why Microsoft is keeping with it. As far as I can see it benefits no one, including XBO-only gamers and Microsoft themselves. In every way it is worse for them, gamers and competitor gamers. Who is winning in this? I'd love to hear theories actually lol

You do and always have. It's still a wall of text lol. More power to you of course.

It'll only matter when/if something of real substance becomes a huge Minecraft like hit on PS4 & is missing from X1 due to the clause with the dev and everyone else vocalising it. Right now it really only matters to us nerds.

Just ask Elon Musk.

not really, IMHO Quality > Quantity.
And when you look at some PS4 indie titles: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/basement-crawl
I don't know man. I prefer less and higher Quality.

I can't wait for Cuphead and Ori and the blind forest.

I dunno i guess since i was young I always enjoyed getting into debates and engaging people with different perspectives. Have often been an abrasive windbag about it, but I'm getting older (two weeks til 30. *gulp*) and just really love the back and forth. Sometimes more than the games I play lol

So to sum up Microsoft's press release, they have shipped 10 million Xbox One's to retailers (aka Sell-In), but they've yet to release the number of actual consoles sold to consumers (aka Sold-Through)? Is this what all the hubbub is about?

I don't know, does Ferrari open up a update blog?

What a stupid analogy.

You're dropping ether as per usual and it is fun to read. Even funnier when the ether'd stop posting in the thread completely afterwards.

No, I just think people have different tolerances for this sort of thing. Most people here are going to turn there nose up at some bad frame drops, random crashes, long waits for MM or whatever but I really don't think this stuff bothers most people.

FTFY.

LOL Are you for real?

Well, he said that xbox one doesn't have so many indie titles, that PS4 has more indie titles. So what. I'd rather have better titles and so far indie titles on xbox one have been great. or is a mediocre title with a metacritic of 24? If so, Show me please.

Fuck me, they need to make this game. 3 random people matched up. 1 moderator and 2 debators. Random debate topic chosen.

Very, very few. LOL! It's like you're trying to back up his point.

I wrote that because I truly believe that sony bundle will sell more (much more) than ms bundle in europe.
so, broken game, shmoken game, when the mass market buys stuff, these are afterthoughts.

Love the daily Amir0x ether. So good!

Don't worry it never goes away... I'm similar to you and I'm 47 now and still enjoy a good debate!

You use 1 hardly hyped or advertised bad indie title as an example, while ignoring other quality indie releases like Transistor, Don't Starve, Velocity 2x, etc. Then follow up with 2 future releases to prove quality.

People can't wait for No many's Sky or Rime either.

Seriously...

You hand picked one title to prove a point.

Truthfully, I can see how you operate and it isn't worth. Take this "victory", lol

No. They say they are about to have shipped[/I] 10 million Xbox One's to retailers.

"Shortly". It's the new Soony.

Not even that. They have shipped less than 10 million to retailers at this point.

You are not getting quality over quantity. You are getting less games because less indies can put up with MS's bullshit.

The few games on XB1 are of variable quality, much like PS4's indies. So let's not pretend XB1 is getting a sliver of rich indie delicious because MS is carefully curating games. They will take any game they can get their hands on. Indies just aren't biting.

They need to clear warehouse and shelves and get production up. All that hoping that the positive news will carry over to the next year.

When you say "MS's bullshit", are you mainly referring to the parity clause? Or is there more going on behind the scenes as well that is making things hard on devs?
