Wow, all these artists getting thirsty for them Screenplay monies if they are desperate enough to collaborate with Mark Millar on garbage. Quitley, Parlov, Gibbons and now Murphy... for shame.

For a lot of these artists Millar represents one of the ways they can get out of the work for hire bubble safely. A lot of these guys are also not necessarily the most commercial artists in the world. You think people are lining up to give Dave Gibbons work? Nah man.

Besides Millar doesn't treat artists like disposable cogs, pays well, and is probably the best writer of action working in comics right now still. What's not to like from the perspective of a talented but under appreciated artist?

If Quitely, Parlov, Gibbons, and Murphy are getting paid idgaf who they're working with tbh, they've all spent their time in the trenches

Read all my books now and picking a top 3 is freaking hard!

So I'll do a top 5

1. Batman 36
2. Wytches 2
3. Batgirl 36
4. Outcast 5
5. Fadeout 3

Goooodness. Preacher #25-26 (
The issues where Cassidy is telling Jesse his story while they're standing on the Empire State building
) is some absolutely amazing comics. I haven't felt so attached to comic book characters in a long, long time. I was just totally sucked in. This series is just incredible.

I'm waiting for my next IST order to read the next book, I think Seven Soldiers of Victory is holding it up. ;_;

Don't think that's the case. Whatever you may think of Millar, plenty of artists would like to work with him. He also pays artists more and basically out of his pocket. I don't think these are true collabs where they would get money in case of a movie. Could be wrong though. He also tends to pick artists who are already quite established and have no trouble making money.
It's not what I think about him, it's more along the lines of me lamenting about what happened to the guy who wrote Superman: Red Sun?

Eh, it sucks but I like seeing quality brehs get so much money.
Yeah that's the one upside to this.

First para totally on the mark. It's good that Millar does all that but my point is that he isn't the writer he used to be. Someone posted about Starlight 2 saying it was about a dude who stepped into a spaceship and he was right. That was all there was to it. So about that bolded line...

Hell, I wish these artists would push Millar into writing something substantial because Millar isn't writing comics now. He's writing storyboards for his next adaptation.

Ray Fawkes was on Twitter asking what people thought of Constantine 19 and he said it was probably the darkest story in the new52. So I bought issue 18-19 and they were really good!
I just did the same right now and I'm glad I did. Issue 19 had some really dark shite.
John in denial about the altverse was just depressing to read.
Btw this is the same Earth 2 as the comic? I don't buy it so just wanted to confirm.

That is putting it lightly. Where'd you drop off at?

Looks like 14 was my last issue. So I'm only what, one behind? Really? Seems like longer.

But yeah, I remember the bit with her
going all dominatrix on the old wrinkly dude.
If there was anything after that, I am excite.

Well I hope it comes quickly! You're in for some great stuff.

It's pretty funny, those issues were so good that I can't even bring myself to read any more Preacher right now. Everything else in the series seems frivolous compared to that two-issue conversation between Jesse and Cassidy (well, a lot of it was a Cassidy monologue sharing his backstory, but whatever). I started reading the next issue and was like "Action? Humor? Plot? All I want is more of Jesse and Cassidy's bromance..."
I really can't remember the last time I was so affected by a comic. I've got this warm fuzzy feeling right now from reading those two issues.

Man, I am going to get so much flak for this....

But Seven Soldiers just didn't grab me. I read like, halfway through the first volume. Was kinda hoping to get to the parts with Bulleteer, but I couldn't push through and got distracted by other things I found more interesting.

Oh okay, ya you're recent and you haven't missed anything in regards to her. And yeah... that scene.

Oh hey guys, what are we talking about today?...

How do you guys decide when to go for the OHC treatment vs an omnibus? Wondering if I should get the Hawkeye OHC's or get the omnibus in April.

I think it primarily has to do with the company and the binding. I'll take a good OHC versus an Omnibus that hardly opens/will fall apart any day depending on the build quality.

Also, holy fuck Walking Dead is definitely back in its groove. This month's book was great.

X = enjoyment-of-series x desired-readability ÷ impatience

I triple-dipped on Glory. Issues -> TPBs -> OHC = Erik Larsen Moneyhat.

I already bought the first one :P

Honestly big hulking omnibus aren't the ideal size for me, but sometimes they are the only way to collect certain stories. OHC's are the perfect way to go.

I read the first 7 issues of that series but it was just too confusing for me. I couldn't follow anything after the first trade.

Yeah, it's one of those books that's probably best suited to trade-waiting. It's not just you. I'm the same way with Manhattan Projects. With all the sciency stuff, I couldn't keep track of what happened in the previous issue.

It moves at an incredibly slow pace, and is pretty dense, which I believe Hickman is known for.

Also, Tim your instagram posts of Lil Gotham are convincing me to place my order today lol

Hah, awesome. I just came into post that first Batman Lil Gotham tpb was easily the best comic I read this week.

I mean if you look at 2, sure -- but 3 has a nice fight sequence that turns into a nice shootout that turns into a nice chase. Millar comics, more of then not, make sense spatially. I'm not saying they're good comics because of that, but there is a certain level of competence when he writes these kinds of scenes, which is nice in an industry where writers by and large don't have that capacity.

Like -- who do you think is better at that than him in that respect? The number of writers still working who can write competent fights is like... Ennis, Remender, maybe Aaron?

fyre don't make me break out the Morrison panels again

The Quitely/Stewart stuff is top tier, but I put that on them. Millar made Bryan Hitch and Steve McNiven work.

e: basically I think there's a difference between artists who can draw good fights (quite a few can) and writers who can write them (very few!)

Also I forgot him at first, but Ales Kot is pretty good at fights too imo
