Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 10-16 | Frauds Among Us

Last month we did our monthly on SF4 with friends and we talked about playing Xrd once it's out. Most of the players were happy about this but when I told them it was only PS3/PS4, the hype died almost instantly. Most of them/us does not have a PS3, PS3 stick and the same for the PS4. I think for 10 Xbox 360, we have like 2 or 3 PS3 owners including me and we don't own enough sticks. People will not play the game since they can't train on it.

Even if Xrd is not seducing me as much as past guilty gear games, I still wanted it to be play where I live and it looks like it's dead even before it's out. I had more players able to play #RELOAD because it was on PS2 in 2005. I'm kinda sad and salty at the same time now. :(

Aye, this is common. Capcom scene mostly stays on 360 since Capcom ports are straight garbage, and if they don't play many other games they probably don't have a PS3.

Around 100€ but you still have to mod the stick and buy the game. They are not that much interested to spend 200€ on a game.

They should get used to it, because I'm almost 100% sure that PS4 will be the lead platform this gen for capcom fighters. Isnt there even a rumour that SF5 will be a PS4 exclusive?

There are 3 types of scrubs in SF

1.The ones who pick Ken and mash shorukens
2. The ones who pick Guile and think they are some kind of unbreakable wall
3. The ones who pick Blanka and mash their face on the controlls

Inb4 ps4 exclusive is a f2p with micro-transactions.

So is it confirmed ps4 and ps3 can cross-play for GGxrd? I was thinking of getting a ps4 since I moved and left my consoles back in NY. Though I don't know how much a ps4 stick would cost.

Might as well make this as an excuse to build credit on a 2nd card.

Yeah, it was announced as cross-play ages ago.

Cross-play is pretty impressive. Makes USF4 on PS4 a more reasonable sounding thing. Except the game plays horribly on PSN so something would have to be done about that first or the game has no purpose at all.

I think the Xrd and Persona sticks are supposed to come up for Pre-order pretty soon

Looking through GAF and see a thread on tea-bagging. Honestly I found tea-bagging really dumb.

Now showing off tech skill in smash or doing courtesy duffs, that's way better.

Same goes doing stuff after the match is over in MvC2 lol

No, I just think it's lame compared to the cool stuff you can do in fighters post rounds.

Well, I guess not anymore since most fighting games won't let you input anything now.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I guess I do see it in Marvel 3. Mostly from Champ lol

That's 100% PSN, though.

I say this as both a PS3 and a PS4 owner.

PSN is ass.

he does it the best, i still remember that top 8 him and eduardo were going at it. great times.

I find it weird how GAF can talk about how important it is for gaming to be politically correct and inclusive until the internet ceases to exist, but there is an entire thread with people defending the notion of forcefully placing your digital nuts in another person's mouth. You would think people would have some kind of consistency in their perspective.

the best way to tbag in umvc3

Tea bagging is important in the sense that it's a form of interaction that isn't aiming a crosshair at something and pulling the trigger. It's almost the equivalent of a taunt action except its purely driven by player creativity and has no ingame mechanic attached to it.

Basically what I am saying competitive games could use at least some form of social interaction to remind the player that there is a human being on the other end. Especially since so many people play online which cuts down on already limited social interaction.

Could be different people

and tea bagging in game is more or less just crouching up and down on top of your opponent. No nuts being placed in mouths digital or otherwise

Not sure that I agree with this. I mean part of the reason I think people teabag to begin with is because they don't see the person on the other side as a real human being.

I personally don't have a problem with it. I think with the right timing it can be funny. But it's about as meaningful of social interaction as giving someone the middle finger

I taunt in fighting games because I like the animations. It also gets great reactions, when I taunted Jan at KiT it was a fun moment.

I bound taunt once because I wanted to taunt > astral someone on netplay

I lost a game by accidentally pressing taunt before I actually landed the combo

feels bad

I'm all for disrespecting the opponent in-game and I'm totally against political correctness in general as an idea.

Anything that increases your and your opponent's emotional investment in the game is good with me. Even if they're negative emotions. I wanna see some heart, none of this wanna-be respectability bullshit.

I don't even map taunt to a button when given the option unless it actually does something mechanically speaking. If I see a taunt I treat it like any recovery animation unless I know it can be cancelled or something.

I'd say I'm not interested in either of those.

I don't like this because I don't want the wrong things said. Some things sure, but it keep it on the game.

I mean, its not just about playing a game. It doesn't matter if its Street Fighter or StarCraft or Magic the Gathering. Its about challenging yourself. Karsticles wants to learn game systems because he has an intense desire to teach people. Vulva wants to watch the metagame so he can take everybody's money in sidebets. Dahbomb wants to be the best internet pedant of all time. And I just like solving hard puzzles.

When I talk shit about being the best P4A or Jojo's player in the US, it's not just because it's true. I want someone to say "Hey GB, I'm getting tired of your shit and my $100 is gonna prove that you're a scrub." Because that way, when they get bopped back into their parent's house, we all have a story that makes us more interested in the game and the challenge of playing against each other.

When someone says we need to all calm down and be more politically correct and conscious of each other, they're disrespecting our emotional involvement in the game. They're saying it's just a game, that its nothing worth standing up in your seat about when Justin Wong comes back from death off a double overhead. That it's wasting your time when you spent all those hours practicing so you could pull off that one bait or execute that one combo the one time it mattered.

If you haven't gotten salty losing, or you haven't jumped out of your chair after winning a hard match, then you probably don't care enough. When you see FChamp pop off in the middle of the match, what he's really saying is, why don't you care about this game I love as much as me?

I don't accept the dichotomy you are creating there, GB.

Certainly, some are different people. There must be some overlap.

And I am not buying that second line for a moment. Everyone knows what teabagging symbolizes.

I don't taunt in the traditional sense but in VF you have several seconds at the end of the round to do whatever you want, and I use this time to express myself

In most cases actually I'll just practice some movement cycles, but if I'm riled I'll use this time to wordlessly communicate with my opponent. Not teabagging, but if I think they're doing something too much I'll mash that move, or something.

Best way to taunt in VF is doing guard cancels on kicks, assuming your character can do it that is. Looks like they do a retarded dance/have to go take a leak.

Fighting games are like fast-paced chess to me. I like things cold, distant, and analytic.
And that's perfectly valid, I just don't think people should force each other to see things that way. Some people have to let loose as part of their enjoyment of the challenge. Taunting is also opening yourself up to vulnerability. I'm sure we all remember Marn's Dudley.
