World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor | Launch Thread

So I'm playing my Paladin (87) instead of my DK (90).

What's the easiest/fastest way to get to 90? Currently just doing MoP quests.

I think this is my favorite expansion since TBC as well, but my order would look something like this:

WoD=BC > MoP > WotLK >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cat

I thought MoP was excellent, it just didn't have the same Warcraft feel which turned a lot of people off. I also think LK was highly overrated. About halfway through the leveling experience all the zones turn to shit. That expansion is also why I'm glad there is no flying in WoD., and hope there will never be. We don't have to deal with the developers showing off with ridiculously high mountains and valleys that necessitated flight and making ground travel a needlessly painful experience.

I can agree with this. And yes there will be flying but not now it will take sometime before we get it maby first patch but not for now it is the first week off launch and Blizzard wants you to explore Draenor i am glad with that.

Jeez, a 3k queue on my server on a Mondaynight at 18:30.

Guess I'll be playing only in the early morning of weekends...

are the queues looking better today, or did I just log on at a convenient time? There was no wait at all to get into Area 52 as of right now, seriously hoping this is the new trend and not a fluke. I am so ready to dive into this expansion headfirst.

This expansion is also looking to be one of my favorites so far, here's my personal order.

BC = WoTLK > WoD > MoP > Cata

BC still has the most outlandish and interesting environments and raids, and WoTLK still has that gorgeous soundtrack and those beautiful, homely zones (I will always have a soft spot for that moment when the theme song starts playing in the Fjord). Warlords of Draenor has the questing thing down pat, and I loved MoP for its interesting aesthetic. Cataclysm was the weakest of the expansions, but it still did a fantastic job of remolding the old world, and the 5 zones at launch were awesome. Not to mention its first raid tier is still god-tier.

is there any point in my trying to get to level 100? i'm only level 34 at the moment and that's just from doing quests (currently in desolace). haven't done any dungeons/raids (don't know how to). hardly understand anything about this game at all. feel like i'm way too late to the party.

i have a lvl 90 character that i got boosted for buying WoD. should i just stick with him? can i get to level 100 just doing the quests? i was doing some MoP quests and i don't know where i am at the moment...it's like a big panda palace. there's kinda spiral steps going up to it. across from this palace is another palace of some sort but i think that's a dungeon cause i went in there and got killed!

how would i start WoD quests? Just really not sure what to do at the moment.

Just keep doing the quests and dungeons for the xpac.

There's no rush. If you enjoy the leveling experience stick with the 34. You can queue for instances by pressing I in game. You can get to 100 through quests, dungeons, PvP or any combination of the above.

The WoD quests start in any fraction hub at this point. Look for the Archmage with the ! over his head.

You need to level up with someone. Its a lot more fun that way. That way they can explain what to do and where to go more easily.

would that be enough to get to level 100 from 90? how much time would that take?

also...how do i do dungeons? do i need to invite other players cause there's no way i could get through on my own (tried 2). still trying to get used to everything.

(i feel stupid asking these questions)

Don't worry, everyone's a newbie at some point. There's a button that lets you search for groups for dungeons. Just mark if youre a tank, dps, or heals. If you're dps, it might be a bit of a wait, though. But you can quest while waiting

The music is simply amazing.

One of the best OSTs so far.

I have the OST in my C.E but yeah they really stepped it up ten fold it's fucking amazing. What i also like is a mix of the TBC music a long with Eastern Plaguelands/Wotlk mixed in between because Ner'Zhul for example.

And people who don't have the music on..shame on them. The game makes it even feel more alive with that. Also the thick atmosphere delivers it.

I would say keep leveling to 100 and don't use the boost. Honestly it will be better for you in the long run. At least at this point (at lvl 34) you have little to no expectations placed on you to perform and to know how the mechanics work. This will help you develop more naturally.

You can queue for dungeons using the dungeon finder tool on your menu/mini bar (can't remember exactly where on the basic UI, I've used ElvUI for so long now I can't remember the original UI sorry).

Keep doing dungeons and learn basic wow etiquette and mechanics and that will help you out a lot for later in the game.

Said it in the main thread but I'll post it here too. The second horde zone is terrible so far. It wouldn't be an issue with flying mounts, but with no flying there is too much ground clutter to clearly see anything. Case of less is more I think.

I will say I was glad to have ZERO queue when I got one of my other 90s Garrison up and running.

Have to disagree with you, I thought the zone was beautiful. Didn't have a tough time finding anything. The only issue I had was there were so many enemies around there was hardly a safe way to travel if you were getting from one place to the next. Also, once you get into other areas in the zone, it opens up much more. (I take it you are talking about Gorgrond).

What are you considering the second zone, Frostfire Ridge or Gorgrond? In either case I disagree. Frostfire is extremely large and has A LOT of content in it, and Gorgrond is much smaller and you are barely in it when leveling/questing before you move on, but I thought it was beautiful. What exactly is the "ground clutter" preventing you from seeing?

I'd agree with this ranking as well so far. I am equally as impressed with WoD as I was with BC so many years ago, haven't had that feeling since in the other expansions.

Though I am curious why everyone hates Cata so much? I'd probably rank it on par with Lich King, as I really enjoyed the variety in the zones and the vanilla makeover made starting a new hero a pleasurable experience(the first time at least). Deathwing was underused and that content came way too late though. I'd also argue zone quality nosedived in LK, Cata, and Panda by the end of each.

People shit on Cata way too much. I agree it belongs at the bottom of the list, but it did a lot of necessary and important QOL stuff that really began to turn the game around and set it on the course it's on now. It birthed LFR, transmog, and was the beginning of class and spec changes that really helped define things in 5.0 onward.

All these 100s....

What is your /played in hours from 90 to 100?

I've spent 7 hours ingame since release and dinged 92 yesterday, seems baffling to me so many people are already 100.

People just go for XP as quick as possible. They just steamroll quests and don't explore much. They're lying if they say otherwise. There's no other way to average 1 hour a level, which is what a lot of people do.

I've spent an average of 3 hours a level so far, with a combination of leisurely questing (I kill as fast as anyone else), exploration, reading quest text (I'm actually into it all for the first time in years!), treasure and rare hunting, Garrison stuff, professions and AH play (made like 13k selling enchants and stuff), and even trying out an alt on alliance side for a bit.

I'm 98 now. Sure I'm antsy about all the 100s that are storming up the gear ladder and wish I could join in asap, but I'm also really enjoying the journey up to 100 more than any other leveling to date, vanilla included.

Nothing like hitting 100 and then immediately having to spend 9k gold just to have a high enough gear lvl to queue up for regulars. lol

My cloak and belt was severely dragging the gear level down. I must have missed a quest or 10. lol

Same for me. Got to 100 with an ilvl of 586, but I dinged at the start of Nagrand. Nagrand seems to reward 600+ ilvl gear, so finishing that zone should get me there

Yeah I dinged somewhere around halfway through Nagrand so there's a ton I missed. I'd rather spend the gold though then do more quests out there. lol

I came into the expansion way over geared apparently because I've only gone up 2 item levels (level 95 currently). Feels good (?).

I don't know why it would cost that much though. It's honestly not even worth running normal dungeons outside of learning the encounters. With how Garrisons work you're essentially incentizied to sweep through each zone and complete every quest. Nagrand should leave most people at a decent gear baseline with its quest rewards alone, and it doesn't even take very long.

Because you have to run the regulars before you are geared enough to run heroics and so on.

Shouldn't you be able to go to Tanaan Jungle and do some quests? I thought it was the 100 lvl zone. I'm about half way through 99 and still mid-nagrand as well and see it on the map, but I don't even know if that's a questing zone or what.

edit: nevermind, forgot that was getting patched in later... Guess I'll be finishing out nagrand. Sadly it's one of the more boring levels visually so far, all the other environments have been fantastic but nagrand just looks like... well, nagrand..

Yeah, Nagrand bored me to tears. Gorgrond was by far my favorite zone.

Got a gronnskin bag off the smuggler's den vendor, and it's making me reconsider my decision to slum it with just embersilk bags. The room is so roomy.

Despite server issues, im really excited to read so many good impressions of peoples experience with this expansion so far. I guess what makes my eyebrows rise is all the comparisions with where WOD ranks against previous expansions.

I quitted like 2 months into Cata, have not played since then. TBC is my favorite expansion.

Nah. I ran like one normal of Skyreach for the ring and I was in heroics. No big deal. The gap between normal and heroic mode isn't super wide honestly. Quests yield better and more reliable rewards to push you towards heroics.

Speaking of which, I highly recommend a bag autosorter like Adibags. The default bag setup is almost unplayable for me, even with the half-assed sorting options that launched with the pre-Warlords patch.

I haven't gone so far in WotD, but I"m liking what i've played so far.

I think BC gets way too much love like Vanilla does and players are being blinded by nostalgia. BC had alot of annoying garbage that was sensibly removed from the game since then.

However, Cata was easily the worst, even though there was some fun stuff in Cata.I really think they screwed the pooch in Cata, by updating the quests to be post WoTLK, and should have made the 1-60 quests pre BC.

Currently when levelling I can blaze through 1-60 on my characters without an issue (thanks cata!) but the Burning Crusade shit just stonewalls me. It's not a fun experience to go through.

80-85 cata sucks just as much

also, levelling as enhancement has been a pain in the dick. I dont know if I'm doing it wrong(most likely the case and enhancement is probably fine) but I just dont have a feel for the class anymore (haven't played since you used to cast windfury/flametongue on your weapons and actually used more than 1 totem per fight)

Some classes got streamlined a lot and thats okay I just dont grasp what the class is anymore since they changed so much

Really enjoying the questing experience in this expansion. I've probably played about 20 hours since launch and am currently at level 95 (75% to 96). I really like how they've laid out the zones and populated them with named elite mobs that can drop some OK stuff if you didn't have good gear already. There are also plenty of cool things hidden away to find in the environments that give you gold/loot/exp rewards for inspecting. Really encourages exploration.

Was this how the MoP zones were, too? I may have to level up another character and go through those zones if so.

The grindy bonus missions are a pretty neat addition, too.

Combined with the Garrison stuff, I'm having quite a good time just leveling up my Paladin.

Word of warning I suppose.

Peeps who are revered with Frostwolf, hold off on buying that level 100 follower. I got him too early and because he's in my collection, I have a bunch of nearly impossible level 100 missions available. Most of my others are level 96 or less so I can't do any of them and they just clog up the missions tab/prevent some lower ones from appearing so I can level up my dudes.

Same thing with me. Though I'm still getting 94/95 level missions to match the rest of my followers as well so I'm still getting them done.

I encountered this yesterday and feel like I'm screwed now. Is there a way to make the level 100 follower inactive or something so the level 100 missions stop showing up?

So MoP had stuff like this, but it wasn't nearly as obvious and they've spent a great deal in refining it. Also don't forget to buy the treasure maps from the Arrok at Warspear (Ashran) near the Archeology trainer. You can buy them for each zone you've finished quests in. I hit 100 yesterday and I'm having a blast! I really enjoyed doing all of the bonus missions too. (Do the bonus missions on Ashran reset daily or weekly... and for that matter do they reset in the world too? I'd actually like that!)

Thanks! I'll wait until I get a few more higher level followers.

MoP has various rares in every zone that can drop some good gear (random blue stuff but also some specific epic weapons/armor) and hidden treasures (BoA blue weapons and some trinkets/neck but also vendor trash worth 100g+) in the world though nothing on the level of what I imagine WoD to be (based on what you all say, I'm still waiting on my box).
