I agree. I think it's great to give the under educated something to look forward to every year, to keep their minds occupied lest they consider more drastic actions to improve their station. Not unlike the bi-annual McRib re-release.

The movies are nothing special imo. Hollywood as fuck dumb popcorn movies. Fun, mildly enjoyable Hollywood as fuck dumb popcorn movies, but still Hollywood as fuck dumb popcorn movies. There's very little depth to them or anything to chew on intellectually.

Edit - Chronicle and TDK are the two best "super" movies to come out in the past few years. Marvel isn't even close to either of them.

Coming from a James Bond superfan, this is pretty hilarious.

How so? You do realize that I openly declare like 75% of the Bond movies as crappy, right? I get my enjoyment from them, but they are bad.

Far cry from those who claim every mediocre Marvel movie that comes out is amazing.

You don't think so? I use that descriptor, too. I mean it in a backhanded sort of way. Not sure how the other poster meant it.

Pixar has made Up, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, three of my favorite movies, period, and I think most of their other pre-Brave movies are top-notch.

Marvel Studios' fare is mostly good to great, but with clear problems of varying levels of seriousness

I like the films but generally try and avoid any of the fandom and hype online. It's too much for what are, at best, enjoyable action movies to my mind. Cool that people are so incessantly excited, I guess, but it can be grating.

ia guardians better than avengers ?

I thought so. That's not to say I didn't enjoy Avengers, I did immensely. Guardians of the Galaxy is the first movie in a long time that I walked out of the theatre and thought "I have to see that again, NOW!". Bought the digital day 1; trying to watch it now. (shh, at work.)

It is just so much FUN. There's really no better word to describe it. Sure, it's funny, it's actiony and silly and all that. But mostly the first word that pops into my head is FUN.

I'm 37 and when I was a kid I would have never have dreamed of a time when there were Marvel movies being made that had a connected continuity, legitimately great actors and faithfulness to the source material. I think it's hard for a lot of younger people to appreciate this. Living in the 80s-the concept of Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe would seem impossible, and now it's not only a reality but a highly successful one at that.

I appreciate Marvel for inspiring other studios to try world building with their franchises. It's a great time to be a sorta nerd.

That's one of the biggest keys for me. There has NEVER been 20 movies (so far) with this level of continuity and world building shared between them. It has never happened. Maybe there were some old school serials with that number of movies focusing on the same character... Tarzan or whoever. James Bond, kinda, (not really). but never completely separate ensembles and story lines all weaved together into such a huge tapestry like this.

It's really cool to see it. And they're doing it just right, too... if you DON'T know or catch all the little connections, it doesn't detract from your casual enjoyment of a fun action movie. All you have to know is that Hulk smashes stuff, Tony Stark is funny and cool and has crazy advanced tech, etc, and... let the mayhem begin. But if you ARE into keeping track of how the whole MCU landscape pans out, tv shows included and everything, there's plenty to enjoy on that level too.

and the beauty is, these are the exact strengths of Marvel comics, even back in the early 60's. When Stan was writing everything and there were only two or three artists, the continuity between the original books was a big part of what made them such a hit.

It's really cool to see the MCU doing something completely new, AND they're such fun movies. The worst MCU movies are fun, and the best ones like GotG are easily just as good as the 80's adventure greats like Indiana Jones, Goonies, Time Bandits, Romancing the Stone and so forth.

People complain that there's "too many superhero movies" but I can't fault the primary Marvel Studios operation. They're a single series. The problem is the Marvel licenses being broken up between too many others who are also trying to rush out films to cash in on the trend.

We've never had a live action film universe this planned out and robust and I like that. They're fun and humorous and I appreciate that they've gotten mainstream audiences to open up to stuff like raccoons and tree-men in space.

I think that this era will be remembered as the Golden Age of Comic Movies.

And we must thank Marvel Studios for this.
They are constant on entertaining movies.

The McRib makes me sick every time.

And yet I keep coming back to it.

I agree with you 100% OP. I'm not expecting them to be the GOAT. Besides 2 movies out of the MCU, I've enjoyed all them. All I care about is whether or not the films are entertaining, and most of them are.

I enjoyed them, but after a while they do start all feeling kind of the same, and I started losing interest. Not to mention with all of them, there is a period in the middle where I start getting bored and just think "Let's just get on with it".

I was planning on passing on them for a while in case I was feeling burnt out, but the next avengers trailer looks pretty great....

The Marvel Studios movies I enjoy are GotG and Avengers. The rest range from mediocre to very bad. I'd say their baseline output is mediocre. The best Marvel movies so far have been made by other studios (Spider-Man 2, some of the X-Mens, etc).

We're near the same age and I'm right with you. I was WAY INTO comics as a teen and all we had was rewatching that Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie and waiting for Fantastic Four only to read in Wizard that it was shelved. And now I'm too old to care about any of this shit.

They're fine. They've made some great comic book movies (GoTG, Winter Soldier, IM1, Avengers) and some atrocious ones (Incredible Hulk, Thor, Thor 2, IM2.)

The Cinematic Universe conceit is cool and it works for their films. Although I'm not into the homogenization. All their movies have the same feel to them.

As a huge marvel comics fan this is my main problem with them. The comics differ quite a bit in tone( or at least they used to) so the films should too. I love the films but they all have that quippy, snarky comedic tone to them. The winter soldier strayed from that but generally they're the same.

I've been enjoying their output. I think the whole 'universe' concept is going to result in a lot of shitty movies and will become the next step in the blockbuster movies trajectory towards completely bland creatively bankrupt movies written and produced by teams of marketers.

I agree with OP. The Mavel studios movies have been pretty entertaining with just a couple of duds. My favorites being Winter Soldier, Avengers and GOTG. I am hoping that Black Panther is good as well.

I am also hoping that Marvel studios can get Spider Man away from Sony. So that a good Spidey movie can be made again. Also to "Ken Masters" , you're not impressing anyone. Get a grip.

I only really dislike both Thor movies and Iron Man 3, the rest is pretty good/okay. They have only made one truly great movie though and that's the first Iron Man. That said, they are easily the best popcorn flicks out there right now.
