Which is probably why the third party went for the name "Amozon" to trick people for the price-match.

Very deliberate scamming.

yes, most likely that person on twitter was the dude who actually created the listing/scam....because it should have been quickly removed.....if at all existed.

Not that I'm against busting walmart's balls, but there's a difference between price matching a sears error and price matching something you know is a scam.

Plus hijinks like this surely will result in stricter policies.

A "moron" who gets paid minimum wage and has their hours constantly changed/shortened with no benefits.

Wal-Mart treats their employees horribly, they should expect horrible performance.

Managers have to approve of price overrides if they're more than a certain dollar amount, which is way less than $310.

And they're paid well. Even assistants make ~50k a year.

As it says in the OP, the listings were fake ie never existed

That isn't entirely true. It was a PS4 for $89.99 listed on Amazon but being sold by a 3rd Party called AmzonElectronics. A brand new seller set up to post the price to confuse price matchers.

It was obviously a fake seller, but it was up on Amazon Marketplace. You can no longer buy it but here was the original link.

LOL at people calling this unethical, theft and robbery. What's the air like up there on the highest of high horses brehs?

Take what you can get it in this world.

If that's major discounts on expensive luxury goods, then fuck it.

Wish I had taken advantage and flipped em for extra Christmas cash.

I still have a screenshot of the page saved. What are the chances of me printing it out, going to wallmart and still being able to do this?

Ethics?

Take your fucking ethics and shove it. It's taking advantage of a vague and a abusable system. There's no honor in hustle.

Stay hungry.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
This isn't unethical at all. Customers are making Wal-Mart make good on their price match promise. Its Wal-Mart's problem to make sure the price shown is legit, not the customer's.

As was stated in the OP, the listings were fake (fake seller) - they never existed.

Hence, these individuals created a fake listing, in the purpose to price match at retailers such as Walmart - unethical.

If customers who were not involved in the process want to price match, go ahead and do so. I ain't judging, get the deal!

The beef is not with the price matching aspect.

Furthermore, these price errors do not affect Walmart corporate, but yearly bonuses for employees, lower & middle class people. Take that as you will.

Very low. A manager came out and told me she just got off conference call about this and it's dead.

YMMV but don't hold your breath.

Well in the end, if Walmart can't do enough research on their price matches to see if they are even real, they have it coming.

Walmart Employee before. iirc yearly bonuses are effected also by theft and accidents as well. This isn't the only contributor.

My point is anyone with a grain if common sense would know that just looking at the listing.

So its walmarts fault for not exercising due diligence.
Not really. Walmart should have asked to see the listing but who brings it with them other than on paper? Walmarts that I know of never had a system in place to check to see if the price matched item was legit anyway other than a customer's word and proof in the form of paper. Yes, that is their fault. That being said it's not the same as a glitch in their pricing or a legit deal. These were manufactured and I'm sure since the people were stupid and put their purchases online, attached to a twitter account, receipts and all, for the entire planet to see, they'll get in trouble.

the employees are supposed to check for this though. I priced matched at target and they made sure it was Amazons listing not a third party.

Exactly what happened when I contacted Wal-Mart about the $60 Wii U. They verified it was a pricing error.

I'm pretty sure most stores price match amazon only, not third party sellers. The person authorizing the transaction should know better.

Yeah I'll give you this one.

But regular Jane Doe customer who sees it and asks Wal-Mart to price match is not a thief if they do it. She is legit paying for the product.

Laughable that this got approved when it's just a third party fake listing. I don't feel bad. It is what it is. Be more educated on the practices at your place of work. Come on now. A cashier, let alone a manager didn't even bother to check authenticity? Let alone have common sense.

Doesn't this hurt Sony and not Walmart? I remember someone saying in the Wii U thread that Nintendo actually takes the damage.

Pretty soon, Walmart and Best Buy are going to start hiring people to troll GAF, SlickDeals, and CAG and make sure which deals are legit. lol

You seem to be misguided if you think these two statements are at all at odds with each other. This most certainly is unethical, which means it's not the morally right thing to do. Which it clearly isn't.

Stop whining about being called unethical. If you really want to take what you can in this world, why are you going to let finger-wagging get underneath your skin?

Unless this is an official price drop, no. If Walmart buys an item for $100, then that item's maker says "sell it for $90", the maker would eat that loss plus likely any potential profit that Walmart would have made. But in this case, it's not on Sony.

Well then it is stiĺl walmarts fault for not having a adquate checking system.

Who in the hell decides to price match online prices and doesnt have access to the internet to check said prices? It sounds ridiculous.

Say goodbye to price matching now thanks to these pathetic scammers.

Price-matching isn't going away. Price-matching of e-retailers isn't going away. The policy exists to combat huge problems that big-box retailers have with customers migrating away from doing their holiday shopping at physical locations. Malls are in dire straits. I'm not talking about Wal-Mart necessarily, but they all see online shopping as a challenge going forward.

Stores like Wal-Mart are just going to develop more pricing walls to prevent their promotions system from being scammed by fake stores.

People whining about ethics over people scamming Walmart? Wow. That company is pure garbage. Call it karma.

Its interesting because in the other threads everyone was excited. Now everyone's mad at these people. I guess GAF is a big place and 'scam' being put into the title drew in a different section of GAF that is opposed to this type of stuff.
