Most Disappointing 2014 - Destiny Vs. AC Unity and Halo MCC vs Driveclub

Anyone who has ever played a jrpg and most rpgs/mmos in general shouldn't have a problem with Destiny, which is a lot of people. I mean how many games are up to 10 OTs? I have at any given time more than 20 people on my friends list playing it. Clearly there are more people who enjoy it than there are people who hate it. Sure there are issues with it as with every game but it is well worth $60.

Played numerous of JRPGs and RPGs growing up. Destiny is easily the worst and it's not even a RPG.

I play with a full party of 8 people every night and we all have a blast. just curious how much time have you spent on Destiny and how much of it with friends? I don't sit here and pretend that it is the perfect game but the hate for it is really overboard.

All I could say is that me and my friends, despite having issues with some of the gameplay, are having a blast with it and it was worth our money.

Titanfall

Its....nice. And then a week later you don't care about it anymore. It's neither great nor bad. It just...exists.

Not what I wanted when the pre-hype for the game was that of a potential GotY nominee.

Played it daily with friends every night for about 2 months. Deleted it off my hard drive prior to AW's release.

Got to about Light Level 25 before that. SP is lacking content, story, and some of the most repetitive missions I've ever seen in my times of gaming. Crucible was fun for a while until you realize Control is the only fun game mode and the amount of 1 hit kills hinder it. Didn't really want to bother getting Legendary gear plus never got a shot playing the Vault of Glass.

Destiny salt is real. I have not played any of them except destiny so I won't rate any of them disappointing because I never liked Halo or Ass Creed and Driveclub being 30fps killed it.

Destiny because I actually had high hopes for it.

Then again, I spent about 100 hours in it so I can't say I disliked the game.

AC I have no intention of touching and it sounds like whatever optimism I had for the game, it died out after release.

Destiny.

Most boring, lifeless game I've ever played. Can't bring myself to play it again, at least not for a long time.

Watch Dogs is second but I hardly had any expectations for that game.

And I bought both games digitally day one.

Fuck.

I loved AC Unity, all of the bellyaching about constant glitches and horrible frame rate simply bore no resemblance to my experience playing the game. I did see a number of glitches across my 30+ hours, but nothing too impactful. Certainly nothing that could be called game-breaking. The frame rate generally seems perfectly acceptable to me, considering what the game engine is accomplishing. I have to chalk it up to the mind set of the crowd who wants every single game locked at 60fps. Granted, Unity dips below 30fps, but rarely goes much below that.

Destiny didn't disappoint. Perhaps that's partially due to low expectations. Ever since word got out that it was online multiplayer only, I figured I'd probably pass on it because I hate that shit. It was only after playing the free beta for a few hours that I saw how fun it was. All I wanted was more of that, and it delivered.

Watch Dogs didn't disappoint either. I expected a decent GTA wannabe, which is what I generally expect whenever I play an open world game in an urban setting. It delivered on my expectations. I never thought it was going to change my life.

I guess I have to say Halo MCC. I'm not all that upset about it, I don't play MP so the broken/non-existent matchmaking doesn't bother me personally. But the fact that I couldn't save my mid-mission progress in Halo 2A, that's fucking laughable. How in the fuck could such a basic, blatant, low hanging fruit bug make it to retail? It wasn't that big of a deal, I just made sure whenever I started a level I then proceeded to finish it before I turned the game off. It's just a pathetic thing that screams "incompetence" in my face.

Technical issues aside (from which I had none on PC) Unity is one of the better AC games. For me it's Watch Dogs ... Big hype, boring game with flat characters. Unity is fun when you look past the usual gaf ubisoft hate

Destiny was hyped to death, and so gets "most disappointing" because the product didn't live up to the promise of this incredible space opera FPS/RPG that we all had in our heads. Even more painful was the information about all the lore that was originally intended to be in the game.

AC Unity was still hyped a lot, but we knew what to expect - an AC game with co-op. The technical problems were sort of hilarious, so that kind of makes up for it. There's actually a decent game underneath all those glitches, and it's obvious the game was not ready for release.

The only disappointing thing about Driveclub was the online. Admittedly a huge part of the game, but the core driving is extremely rewarding and the game looks stunning.

MCC couldn't really be hyped, since we've all played the games. It looks like it's lived up to its promise on the campaign side, but again it's technical issues with multiplayer that have been the big letdown.

Destiny for me, though I exchanged it for Dragon Age yesterday and managed to get 33$ for it...better than nothing.

To give an idea, I usually never exchange games unless I'm REALLY disappointed with it, last time I did it was for Dragon Ball Ultimate Tenkaichi, AKA automated rock/paper/scissors POS. :lol

Destiny, a game that had an Alpha and a Beta, working Online, very few bugs, is considered a bigger disappointment than Driveclub and Unity.

The real question is who the hell was hyped for Drive club and Unity. Anyone hyped for Assassin's creed new what they were going expect and extent of driveclubs hype was pretty much it's visual. Destiny was hyped to hell back and so it had the biggest fall n many peoples eyes.

Yeah, because bugs trump better gameplay, better story, better fucking everything and not a perfectly working soul sucking grind fest.

Ever heard of Obsidian? New Vegas was probably even more broken than Unity at launch yet turned out to be brilliant. Unity is not New Vegas, but it has a lot to love - character, history, fun missions and visual spectacle.

MCC doesn't really qualify for this thread,at least in my opinion. The core gamed are good because they are the same if not better than the origianls. The only problem the game suffers from is online issued which is extremely frustrating believe me but its nothing that can't be fixed with a proper patch or two. And I guess you could throw in menu is a little off too but it's nothing that hurts the actual game. Most of the other games mentioned are just not that great of games.

Definitely Destiny. Halo CE is one of my top three games. It instantly turned me on to shooters, and I couldn't stand them before. It's painful to watch a developer with such great talent and history deliver a mediocre product that had so much potential.

Mechanically, the game is on point, but the art style did not click for me at all and the plot is basically nonexistent. WTF Bungie? Deep lore is your thing! I really do love how Destiny plays, but what a disappointment. It could have been so much more.

At first I had driveclub as the most disappointing because of the online issue but its working better now and they give us a month free of dlc. But now I think MCC takes the cake because I had higher expectation for it. AC was a free game if it wasn't I wouldnt have paid full price. I had no problems with destiny actually. But yeah bad launches all around.

Destiny, I expected a ton more content than what was given. I purchased the Ghost edition and sold it a few weeks later minus the DLC which i redeemed.

Only game I play was DriveClub so I really cant say.

The game is excellent to me, not disappointed in it.

Same. Brilliant driving game even without the online component - which if my experience last night was anything to go by is actually fixed, outside of the Challenges - got a race quickly, plenty of Face Offs, good racers too - everyone trying to race rather than behave like dicks.

The photo mode and new tracks/events are great, there's more at the end of the month and weather Soony.

For me the best games of 2014 were games available last year.

Disappointed:
Halo: MCC
Destiny (Hate that game)

I enjoyed/ Enjoying:
Grand Theft Auto V (PS4)
Last of Us Remastered

Good Surprises:
Sunset Overdrive

I can't say the Halo MCC. Playing through the campaigns again, and co-op, it's still the best game I've played in 2014. MM bug out aside.

I assume MP will be fixed at some point.

You guys are picking a functional and working game over others that are broken (in some ways, beyond broken) in one way or another?

You all are freaking insane

Who cares if a game runs properly if the base game design is bad?

Well the MCC is broken but I already had more fun with it than with most other games this year.

Destiny is not broken and works but it is for me the biggest dissappointment bungie could have delivered.

So Destiny.

Didn't play driveclub and am not allowed to say anything about AC Unity

Oh stop it with including Halo. There's a high probability it will be fixed today, just one week after launch. Plus I was able to play through halo 1-3 already in that time (haven't had enough time for 4 yet).

Come on dude, I really think you're being too forgiving and you need to read the latter pages in this topic and this topic. Some people are saying it's working erratically, a few are saying it's working fine, and most are saying that matchmaking is completely broken and parts of the campaign (online co-op, achievements) are botched as well.

I wouldn't say it was a great game or anything, but Watch Dogs was a perfectly decent game. Nothing that should be winning GOTY awards, but also nothing that should be considered especially bad. That said, if people were hugely hyped for it, then I can certainly understand disappointment. For me, it pretty much met my expectations, so I wasn't dissatisfied with it.

Yeah, it was a little rough around the edges at times and I quit playing it, but after they patched social lubricant I ended up playing it and finishing it and I felt that it did a lot more right than wrong. The only major change I would have made would have been less fixer contracts (car racing) and more gang hideouts. That's when the game was at it's absolute best.

Plus I ended up getting the platinum trophy. Although I am very lucky that I never attempted social lubricant until after the patch because I probably would have raged to hell.

With the recent driveclub update and fixes, I feel very confident now that HALO clearly wins the most disappointing technical issue this year no?

Love Destiny, can't put it down, and I'm amused by all the people who "traded it in after one week/day/hour" and yet feel qualified to tell us how much the game sucks.

Destiny and Driveclub convinced me to sell my PS4.
MCC convinced me to by an Xbone.

I'm not sure how I feel anymore.

I agree 100% with the unbolded portion of this statement. MCC is a set of proven games all collected in one place that has a number of other features like Spartan Assault and MP. Where it failed was execution since Halo is beloved all over the world for multiplayer.

As for the bolded statement, I absolutely love Drive Club so I cannot agree with you there. Destiny was a disappointment that I played until I couldn't stomach the repetition and lack of depth. Unity was so buggy that I sold it, but am willing to give another shot if they've fixed it. I vote Destiny.

I haven't played any but Destiny's Alpha/Beta, but on a surface level it does seem to me that AC Unity was the most pathetically broken, yet that resulted in a lot of hilarious pictures so I'm not sure I'd actually be angry at Ubisoft (though I'm not a real AC fan either so seeing news of screw ups can be more morbidly fascinating, and absurd glitches hilarious) whereas I think in a way Halo MCC is the biggest disappointment relative to expectation versus end result: you'd think this would be a relatively safe, by the numbers update, but with MP apparently being a mess and for as long as it has it's kind of stupefying.

Meanwhile Destiny definitely seems to me the biggest disappointment between HOPES versus end result, I had hoped there'd be a more interesting story given the premise and their boasts of trying to stand with other sprawling media titans, or at least a more interesting world/game to explore, but everything I've heard makes it sound more Diablo in scale than WoW, and going by the beta it really wouldn't be fun enough to justify playing more than... well, what I got in the beta actually.

EDIT: And Driveclub... Man, I didn't really have high hopes anyway but I was hoping to at least have functional enough online that the Plus version wouldn't be delayed into infinity. So it goes I suppose.

Driveclub is my GOTY. Despite it's rocky start, it's an absolutely sublime racer that not only had it's online issues sorted a while back, but is a much more comprehensive game today.

I also very much enjoyed Destiny despite it's issues, of which there are many. Lack of content and grindy design aside, the gunplay is fantastic, and I absolutely love Crucible. It was also extremely fun collecting all the different Exotics and Legendaries, and even levelling them up, till they made you do it all over again that is. And it worked very well day one. No glitches, online issues or anything like that.

Can't speak for Unity as I've yet to play it, but from what I hear the tech issues have been mostly sorted? Just the micro transaction centric design, and overall gameplay issues compared to previous instalments as negatives from the sounds of things.

Master Chief Collection seems to still have persistent online issues despite the numerous patches, and as far as I know many of the campaign issues still remain too (checkpoint woes, frame rate issues etc). It has some sort of BETA programme starting several months after release too?

I guess if I had to pick one it'd be MCC, namely because it's a bigger franchise than the others I feel, and on the whole was more important not to fuck up. I also feel that given the fact that it's a port job, it should have had far more polished campaigns, with more consistent visuals, less bugs, and a locked 60fps. I honestly think the repercussions of MCC will be felt a long ways in to the future. This is a massive blow to the franchise and it's legacy.

Don't forget Little Big Planet 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition for most disappointing tech.
I don't think anyone should have high expectations for technical performance in Bioware games. KotOR was pretty rough, and ME's fairly infamous I believe, and it sounds like the Infinity Engine is a beast to fight with. Frankly they've been UP on average compared to the past, certainly while DA:I had its issues (weird skipping later on in Haven on PS4) it generally ran better than KotOR or ME did for first game of a generation.
