Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

I have a Wii U Gamepad and a Wii U Pro controller and a Wavebird. I really don't want to play Smash with the Gamepad, and my girlfriend will probably use the Pro controller.

Now... question is... should i buy another Pro controller or try to find an adapter to plug my Wavebird? I suppose i'll be having a hard time finding that adapter in (canadian) stores. Might have to look online.

Sounds like personal preference to me. Adapter would be cheaper, but another Pro controller would have better compatibility.

Adapter may also be useful in the future if you ever want to use a GC controller on PC, since someone will probably eventually make an unofficial driver for it.

Best Buy still hasn't shipped my bundle. May not get it until Monday!

This is my first time really playing one of these and I am so bad. Think I'm just going to spend a while learning the ropes and trying out different characters.

Holy crap Gaf. The online in this game is actually good. It's good. Like I've played around 15-20 matches now in "For Fun" with 4 players and haven't experienced a single lag at any point. Disclaimer: My Wii U is connected via ethernet.

Regardless, I'm super impressed. This game is going to have staying power for a very long time simply due to how well the online works.

Well, time to see if Best Buy has screwed me over or not on the five copies I pre-ordered. Wish me luck, they are gonna open in a bit under an hour!

So I'm hearing some amiibos are going to be much rarer than others. I noticed last night there were 4 Villagers compared to like 20 Marios. I ended up grabbing the last Villager.
Do we know exactly which amiibos are supposed to be more rare?

According to one article I read, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Megaman are going to be rare but I saw a ton of Wii Fit trainers.

Presumed Target planogram and local EB Games shipments combined tell me that Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer will be rare.

NoE just updated their NDA for Smash, now we're allowed to talk about stuff. Originally the NDA was supposed to be lifted on the 28th. Guess they got wind of the US release.

Nintendo can be so weird sometimes.

Couldnt wait this morning so I just woke up a little bit earlier than usual. I turned on the console and the game was ready to go! No downloading or installing bs. Love it!
I wont hop online for a while. I plan on doing as much single player as possible before meeting you peeps.

How do you unlock all charactors? Is there a cheat code I can enter haha?

No cheat codes in Smash. The simplest way to unlock all the characters is through Vs. matches. As you play Vs. Matches, you are challenged by an unlockable characters in 1v1 1-stock matches. Beat the character, and you unlock them.

There are other methods, but we don't know what those are yet for most characters.

I'm going to mention the C-Stick stuff in my Club Nintendo survey as feedback to Nintendo -- probably won't do much but I'm gonna do it anyway. My copy hasn't arrived yet so I have a question that's really important:

How's the online? Is it much like the 3DS version where For Fun/FFA is basically unplayable and For Glory/1v1s is perfectly fine?

Dear Nintendo sound department in Japan, you might find this hard to believe but there's actually about 35 seconds worth of melody missing from the Metroid Escape Remix in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Yep, you forgot it again! I know that you automatically assume that the FDS versions of your soundtracks are better than the silly, stripped-down versions that we baka gaijin westerners got, but please trust the rest of the world on this one next time, mmkay?

#RealSmashBrosProblems

That 35 seconds added to the NES version is awful and it's good that it's gone forever.

Help me out guys... any of you got to play around in the photo mode? i can't access it... even though i have a formated SD card in the slot.

The online has been silky smooth for me so far with a wired connection. Wifi was a little laggy. How's everyone else?

This happened to me. Remove the card. Turn off the Wii U. Plug in the card. Turn on the Wii U and start Smash.

That's what fixed it for me. Hope it does for you.

Good idea, I'll mention it too. Though I'm quite sure they don't pay much attention to Club Nintendo outside of demographic data.

Anyway, some impressions about online from the last few pages:
Hmm, so online worked fine for some people? Most of the matches I tried last night were a stuttery mess, probably 10-15 fps. Even the ones that did work better still felt noticeably off compared to single player. I'm stuck on wireless, unless someone has a magical way of getting an ethernet cord through my ceiling without the wife finding out. I've never had any issue whatsoever playing MK8 online, that's always been smooth. I'm gonna be real disappointed if it continues to be like this.

GameXplain has a video of an online match up.
Man the online is damn near as flawless as you could possibly hope! Played tons of 4 player and 1 vs 1 matches and it was very smooth maybe 1 or 2 matches out of 35 or so I noticed any lag,and even those 2 were way better than the bad matches on 3DS... and I'm on WiFi! Been playing almost 6 hrs straight, so much content in this game. Was not planning on staying up till 7am.

I live in Japan but so far the online play has been very close to local play, only one match was slightly laggy.

Once you C-stick aerial you can't control your aerial position hardly at all. Whereas just using the A button I can retreat or make minute adjustments as before.
I believe you fix that by switching it to tilt instead of Smash, which makes me think it's just a smash charging glitch.

Can anyone comment how the online generally is working for wireless on the WiiU so far? don't really want to string an ethernet all around the room

So miles may vary, it looks like. Well, I never had a huge amount of problem with the 3DS version in For Glory so I imagine I'll be just fine on Wii U if not even better.
