So guys, how is the game? How is the online?

Please tell me its good. I need something to save me from the pain of MCC's botched launch.

For those with friends who own a Wii-U, can someone try and PM me if they were able to use their own gamepad on a friend's Wii-U as an extra controller.
With begin able to use a 3DS and a gamecube controller, it would be awesome if Nintendo allowed (or enabled) a 2nd gamepad to be used as another controller for Smash.

I doubt it works but it's worth a shot.

I'll try it myself afterwork, but if anyone has access to the game w/ Wii-u friends, you might as well give it a shot :)

I won't really be able to sit down with this until after finals and my LSAT but picked it up today and played a couple matches:

1. I suck. Haven't played Brawl 3-4 years probably
2. The game looks beautiful and I'm only playing on a 720P TV
3. I wish more characters/stages were unlockable as opposed to everything basically already being unlocked from the start

Reports so far in this thread:

LAN Connections: Game is perfect, even up to 4 v 4 connections, though there are some problems with 4v4 connections when there are tons of items, but only in a small % of games that are played

Wifi: Sometimes game is perfect, other times game is far from perfect. Still trying to determine what is causing imperfections.

No.

The Gamepad uses a very specific, one-off 5Ghz channel.

You cannot use 2 gamepads on a single Wii U.

Okay cool. There seems to be a strong division in performance between Wifi and LAN in this thread. That said, some Wifi users are getting amazing connections, and some not so amazing such as yourself. I'd be curious as to why.
online depends entirely on the connection of both opponents, if your wifi is shit or just acting shit then the connection will be shit and will effect the other person, so if you have good wifi, but your opponent does not, the match isnt going to go very well

Game is freaking incredible, as expected. Myself and two other of my friends all had it pre-loaded last night and started playing right at 9pm PST. We played 10 games maybe? It was flawless. I mean really incredible. They are both on wifi and I'm connected via ethernet.

Well, shit. What's the best LAN adapter for the Wii U? Might as well get one while I can.

I have a Nyko Wii Lan adapater that I bought 6 years ago for Brawl. Tonight, I'll give online a go and post my results. Here's hoping it holds up. Used it for Mario Kart with no trouble, but it wasn't a noticeable improvement over Wifi. I think I got around 12-15 down with it, which isn't great.

Either you are unlucky and got matched with 5 people who have bad connections or your connection isn't up to snuff.

A wifi connection with 100% failure seems to be rare from this thread. He/she should either figure out how to tinker with the connection, figure out if there are people stealing his/her wifi, or go LAN IMO.

Shit.

I work at UPS. Just a minute ago there was a package that is going to Greece that went through the X-Ray but had to be checked by hand. Turned out it contained about 100 copies of the European version of Smash.

I HELD A COPY OF THE GAME IN MY HAND BUT STILL HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK!

This morning I was able to pick up a gc adapter and controller. Also got a Link amiibo and strategy guide. I'm all set except for the fact that I have to go to work now :(

I ordered the controller bundle from bestbuy.com since they were the only place that still had it in late October. Chose free shipping because shipping was too much otherwise. When I placed the order, the delivery estimate was "before Dec. 1st."

My game is out for delivery right now. Got free release day delivery. Fucking awesome.

Mb/s doesn't really matter, it's your latency (ping).

You tell me

Guys I just got a wii u, Mario 3d world, nintendoland, donkey kong, smash and a wii u pro controller. What have I done.

Donkey kong was free with the purchase of he system. I cancelled my refurb order. Can't wait to dive in tonight!

For the uninitiated, make sure you put the Wii U in the DMZ on your router to avoid firewall issues, along with setting up a dhcp reservation. Also, make sure the MTU on your Wii U and router match. MTU mismatches can cause packet drops between the two, even if your ISP connection is fast and reliable.

This is only Wifi specific right? Doesn't matter for wired connections as I recall...

Terminology heads-up: it isn't a LAN just because there's a wire. You're still connecting to the server, and there's nothing "local" about that.

"Ethernet" or "wired" is probably more accurate.

Alright spent the morning doing randoms. Came out with about a 80% winrate, feels great to use the GC controller again. I am on the WiFi and had 2 instances of being matched with someone laggy. I know I have the LAN adapter somewhere, I bought it for my Wii when I was in college... just need to figure out where it ended up.

Ill be around later if any GAF folk wanna throw down.

The game has over a full second of input lag in every match I have played. I can't remember that last time anything even close to that happened.
