Wow, Im so lost in this game lol.

It just makes no sense to me. My background is all 2d fighters, mainly street fighter. Smash is so much different it's no even funny.

edit. Not seeing a tutorial mode. Is there something close to it?

If you wait on the title screen for a bit, a How to Play video should start.

RTFM

There's a link in the main menu and also one when you pres the home button. It's pretty simple at its core.

Anyone want to play? People who are responding to my messages on this board either aren't joining or this thread is going too fast.

Honestly, switching to my damn Pro Controller "profile" every time is a major PITA, they could have just as easily set it per Mii, or per controller-type. What a damn hassle...

Yeah this is fucking annoying. Doesnt help that the hit box for selecting usernames is so damn tiny youre always turning your character into CPU.

I really don't like how the camera loses frames in the pause screen and how the music stutters when returning to the Character Select Screen. It sounds like my Wii U is struggling, haha.

Anyway, I put my Pikachu Amiibo against a Level 9 Pikachu. He was defeated after a valiant effort, but with a little more training, I'm sure he will win!
I can't believe I'm having this much fun with Amiibos. I only decided to buy it while I was at the store.
I only picked up Pikachu, Link, and Samus. I think I want more, but they're too expensive for my taste.

For some reason the game feels... different from the 3DS version to me. It feels slower and heavier, and I can't seem to pull off combos I always pulled off no problem on 3DS.

It's for this reason that I haven't popped online yet. I'm also actually enjoying leveling up my amiibo at the moment! It's oddly addictive.

Same games for any control profile. I changed the buttons on the gamepad and I have to select my profile any time I change game modes.

I need to unlearn 3DS controls. I don't know how to c-stick anymore :(.

Playing this game I'm filled with a since of joy I didn't expect to feel.

Went from 4:30 to 11:00 playing the game nearly non-stop. Holy shit, it's way more fun than I thought it would be.
8 Player Smash is also way better than I thought it would be. I assumed it would be something I barely touched, but I did it about half the time today. The only bummer is that not all stages (or their Omega forms) are available, but that's understandable.

A few questions:
How many challenge boards are there?
And how many trophies are there?

Just one challenge board, but it has 140 challenges and many of them are quite difficult.

I don't think anyone knows how many trophies there are quite yet, but I could be wrong about that.

What do you guys think about the item selection? Personally find a lot of these items terribly annoying.. But was if really better in the old games? Help me remember..

Best item selection yet IMO, though I do miss the Fan.

But a lot of the new items are some of the best the series has ever had, like the Ore Club, Boss Galaga, S Flag, Steel Diver, and Fire Bar. Even the Gust Bellows, which was in the running early on when the 3DS version came out as one of the most irritating, overpowered items ever, seems to have been nerfed quite a bit in the Wii U version (and probably 3DS v1.0.4), making it pretty fun.

So how many unlockable stages are there? I've gotten 5 so far.

Six, so you're almost there. You're probably missing Pac-Land because it has by far the most obnoxious unlock requirement (
play all three Smash Tour boards
).

Just cleared the Challenge "10 or more turns in Crazy Orders with Greninja".

Pretty, well, crazy...the last match, I only had 10 seconds left. Crazy Hand was easy though spamming Gre's Aerial-Down. Got the awesome Reshiram/Zekrom Battle CD, which goes great with the Challenge Pic...Greninja surfing Crazy Hand.

Sadly, I just got a bunch of shitty Equipment, no new CDs. :(

So for some reason, every time I go to the "Beginning of Kirby" trophy box set, my game freezes and the system says that the disc cannot be read. Is my disc messed up or has this been happening to anyone else?

I think I'm gonna have to go back to the store tomorrow and ask for a new copy if this keeps happening.

Same. I'm losing like crazy as I can't pull of combos as easy.

Played at my friends house tonight. Think I've finally realized that SSB isn't for me. Controls feels way too lose and I'm just not a fan of the button layout. Also kept losing my guy on the screen in 8 player matches.

Odd. I've had the game for two weeks, but I got that message for the first time last night after downloading the patch. I got it after exiting out of the online profile options menu while online. It must be a bug that the v1.0.1 patch introduced.

So it's a bug? Oh thank god it's not my disc. They really need to fix this ASAP.

Thanks for the reply, Ash.

GGs Anonymous. Man. It's funny. I've been playing on the 3ds so much I am having to re-train myself to use the GC controller correctly.

Totally! When I was playing with the GCN controller before I lent out my adapter I felt like I was playing worse than with the 3DS, haha.

Doubly so for this Wii U Pad.

Hey did you hear me say hello in the mic? I don't know exactly how that works. There is an option to turn your mic on to speak in the char select, but does it have to be on to hear the other person?

Well SmashGAF, this has ended up being one of the worst days I have had in the last few years for several reasons, but the one good thing I can say about it is that, against all odds, my quest for a GameCube adapter and a Smash GCN controller sans pre-order ended in success! I got the very last adapter they had at the West Hollywood Best Buy, and they happened to have a surplus of Smash GCN controllers, so I picked up one of those as well. They still had three or four controllers when I left, so if anyone in the LA area is looking for one, try there! They also had quite a broad selection of amiibo when I was there, including Mario, Peach, Wii Fit Trainer, Yoshi, Pikachu, and Link.

Now I can finally play Smash Wii U the way it was meant to be played, and I'm all set to go for my launch party tomorrow. <3

Only put an hour or so in so far. First time playing Smash since the original on the N64. Ness is my go-to at the moment. Definitely gonna need the LAN adapter for online. Favorite mode so far is the Events.

Any noob-friendly guides on Smash in general, or should I expect one to come out in the near future on how to become a better Smash player?

Apologies but I am a WII U noob...

I just bought a Wii U for smash bros, and I do not use the gamepad to play the game (I use gamecube controllers). I am wondering if I can turn off the display on the Wii U gamepad. Is this possible?

So Retro Studios change their cover image on their facebook page, something quite unusual since they barely update it...

Then looking at the comments...

Note the " ;) " at the end of their comment. Bah probably means nothing and I'm just being paranoid hhoho.

ggs Ryan, whoever you are

ggs bro. Sheik's aerial side a can't kill anymore. I was getting so pissed off getting your falcon up to 120%+, hitting you with that attack (which kills in project m in the 90s) and you treating it like it's nothing. Looks like I'll be learning some new characters such as Zelda and Bowser Jr., Sheik is just different enough to really throw me off. Might as well learn another character so I can stay consistent in Project M.

Sorry about the items in the first few games, didn't realize that it was using my settings every other game! How was the lag on your side?

Good games chaos.

I'm livid though. I have no idea what makes me so predictable. If I could figure that out, I'd feel less like stabbing people in the face or some shit. God I'm furious right now.
