Wont disagree, but you know why they did it right?

Yeah maybe there should be a PSA or something as a lot of people haven't seen or missed the Bryan Konietzko post on why they were forced to do this particular episode.
Would certainly be frustrating going into this episode not knowing the context behind it.

the most frustrating part of this episode is watching through the nick site it refuses to play the second half

i like how they just make fun of how much of an idiot mako was with his relationships i hope he dies alone

Korra thread is going to be neurotic this week.

How is this different from every other week?

Pretty fun episode considering it was a clip show. They actually gave time to the chars to interact a little which the series has been severely lacking for ages. That kind of banter adds a lot. Doing an Ember Island Players style epsiode would be out of the question because of budget so this is probably the only thing they could really get away with.

Welcome to the new age.

Well, a bit disappointed this week but it is what it is.

Good thing I have GTAV and FC4 to numb my brain tonight! I'll be on all night if anyone wants to join in (PS4).

Maybe it's because my expectations were adjusted following that letter bryke sent out, but I wasn't completely offended by it. I wish they did something more than just systematically address fan complaints though.

Don't like Mako? "Eh, I was dumb. I meant well, and it didn't work out. What else can I say?"

Having trouble with Korra's development? "Lets lay out my basic journey in a few minutes."

Don't like some of the ridiculousness of the story? "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!"

It wasn't bad, just blah. If they had such budget trouble, then why not just not make an episode altogether? Make it a 12 episode season.

One of the stories should have been Su so we could gain greater insight into her and Kuvira atleast.

I thought about that too, but they probably had to make a 13th episode simply because it meant laying off people early, or probably because of a contract saying that Book 4 HAD to be 13 episodes. Bryan said, it was either laying off people (and thus, endangering the entire season's quality) or keeping them but saving money on animation by doing a clip show.

Nick cut the budget so they were forced to do a clip show or let go of quite a few workers early.

“Hey! This is a crummy clips episode!” And that is (almost) exactly what it is––except we all worked really hard to make sure at the very least it isn’t crummy. I’m here to explain why we ended up having to do one. Sometime around a year and a half ago we were similarly duped on a large scale. We got the news from the higher-ups that our Book 4 budget was getting slashed, almost to the tune of an entire episode’s budget. We had two options: 1) let go a significant number of crew members several weeks early, or 2) make a clips episode. We never considered the first option. We weren’t going to do that to our crew, and even if we were callous enough to do so, we never would have been able to finish the season without them.

Just starting this episode. WTF this is a recap ep? Is it even worth watching?

Its got quite a few amusing moments throughout it. Especially in the second half as Varrick tells his story.

Man honestly I laughed at this episode. It (apart from Korra's pity party) was jokes imo. Varrick and Brolin once again delivered the laughs. Man, the terror square phone call was the best. The other characters called Mako out on being a fucking douche too which I enjoyed.

Wow they're really going to drag out that cliffhanger from last week's episode.

That run when the guy said "I'm gonna poke it with a stick" had me dying.

Yeah, I wasn´t expecting much of this episode. The first part was a smackdown on Mako's character, and I hope it doesn't bring any shipping connotations to the finale.

But Varrick's part was genious. That conference call between the villians was pretty good, and the storytelling in the last part was better paced than the other ones. I'd have liked to see Kuvira in the call, but I suppose it was too recent in universe.
If budget wasn't a problem - and the season actually had the time and pacing for a slowdown - this whole episode would have been better in a mover format with Varrick narrating the entire thing.

What a interesting preview.

Wonder why the vines are apparently acting hostile there. Could Kuvira screwing up the swamp be the cause?

More than likely. Kuvira messed up big.
Guessing the spirits are going into a defense state now and attacking any humans that go near them similar to how the spirit Hei Bai from ATLA reacted to the fire nation burning down it's forest.

Wow, I'm a few minutes into this episode and already I'm annoyed at being reminded of season one's bullshit love quadrangle crap.

Honestly while they made the most of a bad situation, I wish they had incorporated Varrick's style throughout the entire plot. Towards the end of the show Varrick could've put together a mover that recaps the events but gets certain parts hilariously wrong or exaggerated and during the intermission breaks different characters could discuss different parts. However, it's entirely possible that there was never a good moment for them to do a clips episode after this past episode.

Skipped Mako's Mopey Crap. Varrick's bit is fantastic. Should have just done that for the whole episode.

I especially love Unalaq as Ming the Merciless who no one likes.
