This is a dumb questions but I haven't played Smash in a while now and I haven't kept up with this one: what's the fastest way to unlock chars/stages?

Literally keep playing the game. I'm getting unlocks left and right for just fooling around.

There are requirements for characters, so look them up. The most insane thing I had to do was complete 10 rounds of Crazy Orders. That wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I think I got lucky since I just picked Giant battles the whole time.

you can also unlock characters just by playing versus matches

I think you automatically get a new fighter every 10 or so versus matches? So if you're having fun with the game, that's probably the least frustrating way to do it. If you want a kind of grindy but easy way, you might try 10 games of 1-stock Sonic jumping off the stage to see if that works.

Are you certain it's not just what normally happens as it levels up though? I leveled up a Peach Amiibo almost exclusively using Peach last night, but it seems to me that it somewhat reasonably matches the normal increasing CPU level progression, with added Cruel Smash style powerups becoming noticeable in the final 10-20 levels.

I dunno maybe but the amiibo definitely seems to play in a similar style as me. might make for a good experiment though. Mirror amiibo training vs random amiibo training. Also if a player sucks would there lv 50 amiibo suck compared to say a "competitive players" amiibo assuming no equipment was fed.

Wow, it took me like 2 weeks of constant playing to unlock all the Mii costumes. I just unlocked all the Mii costumes in about a day on the Wii U

Unlocks seem a bit fairer and easier this time around

I think I got a dupe in Master Orders once but they seem way less common. I have nearly as many customs as I have on the 3DS and I've only been playing for 2 days

I am very happy to hear this about the Mii costumes and custom moves. I didn't take the time to get random drops for all the customs on the 3DS and I don't regret it. :P

salt but if you counter one way it should only be able to counter for that side only

lost a match cause i had no idea this could happen haha :/ , dodged x rolled and hit but i got wrecked by a counter

This. You can literally set it to 1 stock, 300% and use a long range b attack like an arrow to kill on the first second, quicker than a suicide even. Should take an hour or a bit more.

This takes me back to Melee when I unlocked Mewtwo by keeping my gamecube on overnight with two controllers plugged in.

This game is very nostalgic.

I was trying to do this as an experiment since I thought they were advertised as imitating your playstyle. However, I was disappointed to find out they cheat at high levels cruel-melee style even with no equipment (more damage, maybe more knockback, etc.).

I was doing stuff like spamming crouch constantly, running away from fights, etc. but I'm not sure I ever noticed my weird artificial behavior reproduced. The Amiibo only has a bit over 500 bytes (not kilobytes, not megabytes, but normal bytes) of storage so I'm not sure how much data they could put in, if there actually are custom behaviors.

I guess the real test would be two level 50's trained by two different people. Of course I suppose that's only possible to do offline though.

That's pretty fascinating. I wonder how much of the AI script is stored in the Amiibo. Probably not that much. I picture the amiibo storing a bunch of 'keys' that when you upload it into the Wii U, those 'keys' go to certain AI scripts that are then used for the Amiibo character itself ingame.

"where in the fuck am I?"

Hmm that is kinda disappointing cause the concept of training an AI is too cool. Yeah really wish amiibos were used in more modes, especially in online. They should have made an amiibo specific online mode thats like spectator mode where only amiibos duke it out. Such a missed opportunity.

This is dangerous. I played online "for a bit" and it's now midnight.

I'm legit impressed at how the netcode is in this game. I have a router across the house and nearly everything I play has just a tiny amount of input lag, to the point where I don't actually notice it in the middle of a heated match.

Between the Omega stages, gigantic roster, and perfectly serviceable online, I easily see myself putting in 200+ hours on this (and I always jump between games a lot). It's scary how the hours just peel away playing this. I had no hope that the netcode was going to be anywhere near this good after the shitfest that was Brawl's online, but this game really shattered my expectations on that one.

EDIT: I also learned today that powerline adapters in a house can work across circuit breaker sections, which I thought was absolutely not the case before. I might actually be able to do a wired connection :O

I need to learn how to punish people. I have a hard time killing people in this game. I can't seem to find openings on folks when I need to the most. I'm getting better at starting a fight off and building up damage, but the killing part is difficult.

I sort of hope Bowser's "Fire Ball Custom" becomes his true B-Move next time around. Way cooler than Fire Breath.

So what do you guys want in a future update for this game?? I feel comfortable in that Nintendo listens to us as they updated MK8 fairly quickly with some much needed changes and probably still is.

For me

  • Ability to set default controller profile. It's annoying to have to constantly select a profile before starting a different mode. I'm the only one playing on my Wii U online so I think it should default to one.

Allow voice chat in game with friends. They're my friends, at least let us talk online together if we want.

Connection strength icon on players in the lobby menu. Additionally I'd like it if we can set our region and only play against people nearest to our location.

Turn off stage hazards. I wouldn't mind playing on some stages in their normal state but just without any hazards that can kill you(Like the yellow devil for example.)

Another for glory mode that lets you play 1v1 but with equipment enabled.

Just played a few rounds of smash using a wavebird. What an amazing experience. I ended up ordering more amiibo friends to play together.

Great job Nintendo!

You forget to set the right control scheme when going into Crazy Orders. :0

  • Down grade priority on Diddy's Monkey Flip.
  • Slightly buff hitstun.
  • Fix MetaKnight's everything.
  • I feel like Robin's dash speed needs a slight buff for his approach game. (Not sure.)
  • Megaman and Pacman needs a few speed tweaks for their attacks, their a little too slow and easy to punish compared to other commonly played characters.

I agree, default controller options for sure, or at least remembering your last choice.

I would say for glory equipment is bad since aren't there crazy items like crit chance or whatever? A for glory queue with custom moves might be viable though.

I wish there were a mode where you could draft-pick or random-pick stocks, like Smash Tour without the board game part. So one person might pick pikachu, donkey kong, bowser as their 3, and the other person has 3 others, and if you die you get your next fighter in line. Or it could be totally random so you'd have to be experienced with everyone.

Turning off the yellow devil would be nice but Sakurai seems kind of adamant against that.

I really really want all Omega stage backgrounds to be usable in the stage builder. The game already has tons of backgrounds that don't interact with the stage at all and I'm pretty disappointed we're still locked to 5.

There's also a few online things I'd like to see changed. For instance, I want to make an invite-only room among friends, or at least let me close the slot for Player 3/4. I'd also like an option to make a 3-stock 1v1 For Glory. Maybe these features are already there but I haven't been able to see them. Connection strength and default controller across the entire game I definitely agree with you.
