Yeah, that's a fair point.

Still, any fight between them seems even more slanted than one between Bats and Supes. At least there you can buy into the idea that Bats can put up some kind of fight, however short and pointless it would ultimately be, but G.A against Flash?

He might trick him or just plain sucker punch him. Plenty of people already landed their shots on Barry. He still operates on human speed by default and just uses superspeed as boost,. And it makes sense. Otherwise his life would be a living nightmare and he would be unable to interact with any other human being.

You now what? I'm making a prediction about how Arrow will take down Barry. Barry will be a show off and will catch an arrow instead of dodging it and that arrow will explode/be sleep gas/electrocute him.

Would sleep gas even work on Barry? He's shown immense resistance to things like alcohol.

I'm guessing trip wires or something. Maybe some stealth. Barry has trouble fighting anyone with actual combat experience, he got bodied by Captain Cold and Oliver will probably have no trouble outsmarting him. They key is not to make yourself a super obvious target. This is not Barry anywhere close to his prime, versus Oliver at presumably his peak.

Yeah, that's a fair point.

Maybe that could be a point too. Olli having put strong enough sleep gas in there to knock a normal man out for the whole day is surprised when Barry shows up again a few minutes later. It's a crossover after all, so one alone won't get to make it.

For people wondering why they fight, here's the official episode summary:

Barry is thrilled when Oliver, Felicity and Diggle come to Central City to investigate a case involving a deadly boomerang. Excited about teaming up with his friend, Barry asks Oliver if he'd like to help him stop Ray Bivolo, the meta-human Barry is currently tracking. Bivolo causes people to lose control of their emotions and has been using that skill to rob banks. Unfortunately, the superhero partnership doesn't go as smoothly as Barry expected. When Oliver tells Barry he still has a lot to learn, Barry sets out to prove him wrong by attempting to stop Bivolo alone. However, when Bivolo infects Barry and sets him on a rage rampage, everyone is in danger, and the only one who can stop him is the Arrow. Meanwhile, Iris is furious when Eddie tries to get a task force to stop The Flash, Joe and Dr. Wells agree the Arrow is a bad influence on Barry, and Caitlin and Cisco deal with a new team in S.T.A.R. Labs.

This all sounds great.

And wow, the plans for Black Canary after the winter break...

Only Arrow characters Oliver, Felicity and Diggle head over to Central City in The Flash hour of the crossover, but Laurel — who is still reeling over the death of her sister and has started her own training — is mostly missing from the Arrow portion of the crossover, too. "Laurel appears in the Arrow episode," Kreisberg said. "She's not as present in these episodes, but that is because we've been building up to her appearance as the Black Canary. We sort of said that Sara was the Canary, but Laurel is the Black Canary. Episodes 10, 11 and 12 are a three-part trilogy that are about her. And episode 13 I think I can spoil, is called 'Canaries.' For fans of Laurel and for fans of Katie [Cassidy], they're going to get more than their fill after the winter break."

So at least they're devoting a big chunk of time to the Black Canary level up.

Angry Laurel has been pretty attractive.

IDK

Season 3 Laurel has been pretty baller to date. I'm fucking excited for this.

I bet
her three episode arc throws her up against Brick, played by Vinnie Jones. They mentioned he'll be the villain of a three episode arc.

Fuck, I just realized this will essentially be a movie starring Black Canary.
It'll probably have a three act structure.

I wish they'd given Katie Cassidy less thankless material to work with, cause honestly... her character's arc is quite compelling. Season 2 was her rockbottom, she built herself up, another tragedy causes her trajectory to alter, leading her to become the Black Canary. Trauma after trauma after trauma until all that rage and despair gives birth to a dark avenging angel.

Edit: I mean, really... her life was ridiculously shitty. Her boyfriend is cheating on her with her sister, they both die. Her parents divorce in the interval. Her dad has an alcoholic breakdown before pulling himself back together. She falls in love with her boyfriend's best friend (who loved her), then her boyfriend comes back from the dead and shit is complicated. Her new boyfriend dumps her (cause he thinks she'd be happier without him), but then she inadvertently causes his death as he tries to rescue her, further throwing her into despair. Then, she picks up a pill and booze problem, her long-dead sister comes back, then she falls for the mayoral candidate who turns out to be a psycho and she becomes the protagonist of a Hitchcock flick and no one believes her that he's a murderously insane cult leader and everyone calls her crazy, and she loses her job. Has another breakdown and freakout. Eventually gets her shit together, comes back from the brink, things are good for a while and then her sister is murdered for real, and she has to keep it a secret from her family (for dumb reasons). Then, the first time she tries to attain justice for someone when the system fails her, she gets her ass kicked. She asks her friends to train her to fight, they refuse, and now she's being taught by a handsome boxer, and more shit is coming her way.

Wow.

Okay, so I think I have an idea what we're building to... speculation here:

By the end of the mid-season finale, we will know who murdered Sara. Oliver will be taken out of commission by Ra's. Laurel will be left alone in Starling to face off against Brick (Vinnie Jones), who will "bring the government of Starling City to its knees" and she'll fully become the Black Canary (and Arsenal will assist her). Meanwhile, Oliver will be fighting for his survival in a foreign land, and will be away from Starling, probably in a TDKR-esque scenario ("The Climb").

As someone who doesn't follow comics, I get where you're coming from. Palmer being a good guy seems so weird at this point, even though I love everything about the character. He's easily the best thing about season 3. But boy, does he seem shady and super creepy.

I don´t read comics either, and if it was not for this thread, i would he is shady and evil.

Nothing can stop the Olicity Train!

Honestly, this season has set up a lot of cool stuff, despite the opening episodes being weak.

- Oliver, Malcolm, and Ra's are headed to a major conflict that will probably leave
Oliver fucked up around the midseason.

- Laurel's rise as the Black Canary and
her ensuing conflict while Oliver is "gone"

- Palmer's mysterious plans for Starling and how the ATOM suit plays a part into that.

- What exactly Thea and Malcolm are up to.

- Cupid being in the Suicide Squad and their return later on (since we know Captain Boomerang will be involved and
is a former ARGUS agent

Would sleep gas even work on Barry? He's shown immense resistance to things like alcohol.

I'm sure they have some super strong sedatives. They managed to knock out mirakured Roy permanently after all and Mist poisoned Barry heavily too. They can propably use something that would kill twenty men and just have it put Barry down for a while.
Some sort of ice/glue arrows are another examples.

Good opportunity for Oliver to expand his armory of trick arrows. Against ordinary humans the few he has are enough, but wide wariety of bizzare arrows is what alway allowed Green Arrow to fight some of the lower metaumans

It's gonna be the make-it-or-break-it moment.

Can't we have her die while attempting those superheroics? Showing boxing classes just aren't enough? They could have then just get Thea to become a new Canary, since she's actually trained by Malcolm. ;)

Willa in blonde would be fun to watch

I gotta say the scene with Laurel sparring actually looked pretty decent, as opposed to the first sparring scene earlier in the season when she looked like she was flailing like a drunk.

Maybe it's intentional

You mean they would intentionnally show a chracter being bad at something and then after some training showing that character with improved skill, telling the audience she is getting better?

No way.

I want Laurel as Canary to do tons of flips and every one of them takes out a bad guy or looks awesome.

Then a cut to a crying Roy.

Oh please. People are acting like it's going to end the show. Why can't anyone just deal with the fact that Laurel is BC now?

I've no idea.

I mean in terms of the show, Oliver just stole Yao Fei's entire gimmick of an archer with a hood. And yet nobody calls him on that. Laurel's just following in Oliver's plagiarizing motherfucker footsteps.

It's not gonna end the show, but it will be a difficult time. Laurel is so ... Laurel. I would rather have a Diggle triology. He is an interesting character with a backstory that can be further explored, the story about his brother and Deadshot isn't completed yet and he could do more stuff with Argus and the Suicide Squad.

3 Laurel-centric episodes? Seriously? GDI... She's the most obnoxious and worst written character of any of the shows I'm watching. Anytime she's om the screen is a moment I'm looking something up on my iPad or grabbing a fresh cup of tea. I love Katie Cassidy, she's a fantastic actress but this show does absolutely no good with her. If they can turn that around, then great. But so far... I'm not optimistic.
