Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

So another game getting re released again. I mean its good and all when they do it but before you know it they will be doing this with GTA 4 and Oblivion.

Why not put the rescourese that the use to improve these game into some future projects?

QFT. Sometimes it feels as if people are actively looking for things to dislike, forgetting that despite it being a bit weaker in certain aspects, it's still a phenomenal game and most certainly my GOTY.

And what's that about controls being unresponsive? I heard that was the case on consoles, but the first thing I noticed about the sequel was his reactive the player character was to your inputs.
Yeah, I had the same experience, switching directly between DS2 and DS1 even.

While Durante deserves praise and all that, I'd much rather see the first Dark Souls getting a proper PC version. Dark Souls II already runs just fine.

I'd rather not reward From Software and Namco twice for the fuck up they did in the first place. They should either patch and fix the original release or piss off.

Huh. Sorry From, although I liked Dark Souls II, I just don't have the time
to play a game of that length a third time (started over once for the DLC).
If this had been a Souls Remaster Collection (with Demon's Souls for the PS4)
I would have been all over this though.

There's so many of these generic posts that say "Sure, it was flawed, but it was still great" without addressing any of the criticisms.

- Abysmal hitboxes
- Ridiculous enemy rotation/tracking
- Enemies have unlimited stamina
- Encounter design boils down to being spammed with 10 enemies simultaneously
- Absurd geography - somehow, the top of a windmill has an upwards elevator into an underground lava pit.
- Huge visual and mechanical downgrade at the very last stretch before release.
- Soul memory

None of the above was "actively" searched for and it's disingenuous to imply that it was.

Souls is about combat, exploration, atmosphere, all of which are bungled in Dark Souls 2. I mean, with all of these factors being so deeply flawed, what's left?

PC gamers who already own the original and DLC. Assuming everything else is correct and there will be no save data transfers and a seperate. How much of a discount are you willing to buy Dark Souls 2: Prepare to Rebuy Edition as an entirely new sku?

I want to say $15 for previous owners would be acceptable. I've already spent $75 on this game and it's DLC. The new content will probably not be much bigger than each individual piece of DLC and the graphic options and multiplayer boost should have been patched in since we never had the restraints last gen consoles did. It will suck losing my character I've built over 300 hours but as long as they make it cheap enough that most of the community doesn't feel screwed and moves over I can deal with that loss.

RIP My Dickwarith...

Paying ANYTHING for this garbage is unacceptable if you already own the game+Season Pass, which should include ALL new content, new SKU or otherwise. But I guess we're playing "Scamco - the Capcom we want ya' money game when it's totally unnecessary". Whereas far greater updates like the FTL update and Dustforce DX update were FREE to all previous owners, and these were Indies with far lower budgets and install bases. Really goes to show who's doing it for the money, and who's doing it for the passion of game making and respecting their customers. So if you support this behavior, please buy this and show your true colors.

Also find it hilarious in their little list they mention NOTHING about restructuring and fixing the horrible broken mechanics and control calibrations from DkS2, or Poise or hitboxes, or untying the roll speeds and i-frames from the ADP stat (stupidest thing I ever saw in a Souls game imo). Their just basically doing scaling and nerf/buff crap on a larger scale, doing who knows what with NPC's, and putting on a shiny new coat of paint and hyping it like it's the "new black"...for of course a price even with the Season Pass already bought. They also mention NOTHING about fixing their terrible "restriction system" they implemented after the terrifucked up VAC support (great competence there), based on, you guessed it Soul Memory, another example of a hideously bad idea that even goes so far as to screw legit players while cheaters/hackers get free passes!

TL:DR - Fuck Scamco. PC game didn't need a new SKU for PC, just a good sized update for free, I'm running a Quad-SLI Titan Z rig with a 6-core Haswell OCed, 32GB G.Skill DDR3 and somehow, somehow I've got to buy a new version/upgrade of the game that supports DX11?? What is that, this ain't 2005. Oh yeah, I forgot, Namco is scum and just wants your money and doesn't give a shit about it's customers one way or the other...lining the CEO's pockets = greatest bottom line. Good ole fashioned business decision, we've got here.

Good for those who haven't played, I guess.

I've already bought and maxed it out with each bit of DLC. Now that I have a PS4, I wish I waited. Ugh.

I will happily purchase again, love the Souls series and enjoyed Dark Souls 2 a lot!

Release timing is weird though, not sure I want it so soon after Bloodborne.

I can acknowledge its flaws, no game is perfect, it's still a fantastic game. Clearly my opinion can't be right because I can't be passed to make a 10 point list of why it's such a great game.

Thing is, I can accept that there are people who dislike the game, I don't have a need to prove that it's fantastic.

Yet I feel there's a general theme of "10 reasons Dark Souls 2 is bad and why you should feel bad for enjoying it"

However, after 30-40 hours I couldn't find the same satisfaction with Dark Souls II. The World does not seem inspired, I don't have the same great fun that I had with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls and I really can't tell why. I still need to complete the game but after so many hours invested it's hard for me to understand how I'm not having fun with a series I like so much. There were some nice locations but the most felt a bit bland and it's a shame I feel this way regarding the latest Souls game since I wanted to like it so much as I did with previously entries.

Different directors,different vision.

The amount of content this game will have INCLUDING DLC will be staggering. Well worth full retail price if you haven't checked it out already.

So pay for EE on pc (DX11)....Good for content but go learn some lesson from cd project red...
And now i'm glad i have waited for a probable big dlc.

I'm not sure if I want to play this after Bloodborne though...If it released today or in January I'd be all over it. Would buy a Dark Souls 1 & 2 Collection in PS4 @ 60fps though.

Thing is, I can accept that there are people who dislike the game, I don't have a need to prove that it's fantastic.

This is the key.

What bugs me is when people say "people who are negative about it are actively looking for things to dislike." It's really annoying when there are so many points being made, and I've never seen them addressed, ever. The criticisms are just lazily attributed to people actively looking for shit to whine about. Yeah, I bought this game so I could whine, that's plausible. <.<

Nice, will wait for this version. Next year I will have Bloodborne and this one. And as Bloodborne seems to be different in quite a few aspects I will probably not get fatigue.

As someone who played it on PC, 4k, 60fps blah blah blah, and has finished all three DLC, i find it a bit hard to care that much, considering in April we'll be knee deep in Bloodborne.
i'm curious about the performance and graphics improvements though, the game i already super light to run.

I say 15 IF there is a sizeable amount of extra content which would make it like a 4th DLC. If little is added any extra money spent would be a bit hard to justify.

Still going to buy it cheap at steam winter sales.

This might be my approach. Depending on whether Bloodborne sucks up all my time, I either wouldn't have time or wouldn't be inclined to play something similar in tone so soon after that game. So I can wait to see impressions from people and then pick up the PC version in a summer/autumn sale.

Pretty psyched for this, but I'll probably wait for a price drop.

I played through DS2 on the 360, but I've avoided the DLC. This gives me a reason to go back.

I'm pretty stoked that one of my favourite PS3 games is getting a substantial free patch next year, wish I could say that about more games.

I always been a Souls fan and I remember when I played Demon's Souls (still my favourite in the series). I got an imported Asian copy since the game was not even available for Europe or NA. Finished one year after having the game. While I love these game I a bit... bad at them but this never stopped me from keep on trying and trying and... trying.

After finishing the Demon's Souls I pre-ordered the Limited Edition of Dark Souls for the PS3 and I was here on the Day One GAF Hype. I had some difficulty with the game and after no longer having my console I left the game unfinished. Months later I was able to play the Prepare to Die Edition on the PC and I had a great time. Finished the game and the DLC as well. Just like Demon's Souls, I loved Dark Souls Prepare do Die Edition. Such a great experience not to mention the amazing soundtrack.

However, after 30-40 hours I couldn't find the same satisfaction with Dark Souls II. The World does not seem inspired, I don't have the same great fun that I had with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls and I really can't tell why. You are not alone.

I agree.

Now do I buy the DLC during the steam winter sale or just wait for this new version to come out?

I already got 160+ hours of enjoyment out of the base game.

I guess it depends on how drastic the improvents are. I hope they fix adaptability. Having 6 ADP really makes a soul level one run not fun!
:P

Save files not carrying over really sucks...

I was going to buy it during this sale but now I'm waiting, no point sinking more money into the old version and save files don't carry over, it's a waste of money and time.

skipped the 3 dlc, might get this is the price is okay. too bad for the online tho, since i don't have the psn+

If you already own the Season Pass...............it should ALREADY be paid for. Period. Otherwise what did I pay all that cash for the Season Pass for? Three garbage DLC's that not only didn't address the community's issues with the base game, but in some cases went even crazier with those designs/setups. So, basically three terrible DLC's vs. Artorias of the Abyss ( which was FREE on PC and far better in every respect all thing considered) is what I gained from purchasing the Season Pass?

You mention a 4th DLC...which should by proxy be part of the "Season Pass". At least Irrational got it right with their Season Pass unlike most games...

This will be my RPG during the summer drought, which should give me enough time to go through Bloodborne and The Witcher without feeling burned out.

This is perfect for me, I never got to play Dark Souls 2 on the PS3, so I'm really looking forward to this re-release!

Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 in the space of a month, fantastic.

I'll have to wait and see how much new content there actually is before I consider purchasing. I hope they rebalanced the weapons so there are more than a handful of weapons that are viable after NG+2. Barely any of the new weapons in the DLCs were even usable for me since they did such low damage to all enemies.

DS2 would basically have to be rebuilt from the ground up to address all of the issues I have with it. A fancier coat of paint isn't going to hide its glaring problems. That said, I'll try to reserve judgment until I hear how these gameplay tweaks manifest themselves, but I'm not terribly hopeful.

The timing of its release is also really strange; who's going to go from Bloodborne back to something as recent as DS2? I honestly think a port of DS1 would fare better.

MAYBE I will get this in late Summer 2015 or early Fall 2015 but for now I will skip it since this release date is too close to Bloodborne.

They addressed MY issues with the base game.
the DLC were pretty great (minus a couple of the bosses being shit reskins).

Also, lol.. Artorias was not "free" on PC, it was included in the GOTY edition of sort which was the only one available because it came out later.
By your logic, these DLC are also free on PC, PS4 and XBone, to anyone buying the GOTY edition of sort, coming out later (i.e.: this one).

Cross-posting comment from DS2 OT:

So this isn't new content DLC, it's just an announcement of a GOTY type edition/patch for existing platforms and a PS4/Xbone version (as many predicted).

Interested what upgraded visuals mean, but 6 players sounds dumb as fuck though, sorry.

Season pass was more a "save five dollars for this three pack" than anything. It was 25 individually it was 30. Same thing borderlands 2 did. They aren't going to make more dlc without charging for it.

Hah. Coming after Bloodborne ensures I won't give a solitary shit about them trying to polish up this weakest entry in the series.

Its certainly making me hesitant to buy future Dark Souls entries on day one any more unless I go PC though.

Uhhhh, YES! If Namco really wanted to do something great for the community, they'd update DkS1 with the pre-release visuals of DkS2, add dedicated server support for PC/consoles, and otherwise throw in some throwback weapons like Blueblood Sword/Large Sword of Searching/Ancient King's Set/Eternal Warrrior's Ring/etc as hidden bonuses. Maybe even fix up Demon Ruin's/Lost Izalith to what they would have been if Namco had agreed to increase the budget and extend the release by 6-8 months.

THAT would be worth paying for.
