Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

I wouldn't just call it "vocal", I'd call it "screaming".

Thank good it doesn't have the same feel as Demon's Souls. That
beta
feel.

I'll take a beta feel over a "we have run out of ideas and its also kinda broken" feel, but thats just me.

These remakes/remasters are getting ridiculous. Doesn't help that gamers are buying them up like they are brand new. Seems like a waste of time. Companies need to put their resources into new games.

Ahhh the classic complaint.

This remaster is brand new to me, so I shall buy it with pleasure thank you very much.

Lmao I don't even know, either.

Probably another person thinking Bloodbourne will be a let down in the same way as DS2 was in regards to the lighting fiasco or whatever.

Don't know if this will be a buy from me as I'll be to into BB at the time. Only reason I kind of want is I sold my 360 for my RTTP PS4 and didn't get to try the dlc fully before doing so. Really hoping sony and From team up for a demons soul remaster or at the very least a PSnow version because I really need to finish that game and haven't had a PS3 to do so in a long time.

DS2 meets DX11? I'm expecting single digit framerates. And people being happy with it.
I don't really get your point. If anything, DS2 is amazingly well optimized. It runs at 60FPS 1080p on lower mid-end systems, and at 4k 60 FPS on single-GPU high end PCs.

I'll take a beta feel over a "we have run out of ideas and its also kinda broken" feel, but thats just me.
I didn't get that feeling from DS2 at all, but I'm sorry you did.

You and me both, man.

I don't usually post memes but...QFT!

Yeah, Demon's sure did have a "beta feel"...how? I'd like somebody to specifically explain how it's "mechanics" and design structure felt "beta" in any way.

And by the way, what IS a "beta feel". Is that a subjective thing or is there any established theory for this?

Agreee. Its what i kinda dislike of this current gen.But what is more amazing is that we all jump on them. Even if i didnt enjoy it as much as dk1 and ds, its a but for me.But ill wait for a used copy eh.

Artorias of the Abyss on PC then = FREE. If it wasn't please point me in the direction of a PC version which you had to pay for it. Argue that however you want, but it was. It cost money on consoles sure, but I never implied differently.
So this dlc is free on ps4, xb1, and if they didn't give you the chance to buy it on PC, this would make it free on PC too!

Logic is failing you, dude.

The reality is that PC gamers had to simply wait to play the game in the firstplace, with DkS1, because it simply wasn't available for their platform.
I guess you would've preferred for DkS2 to also not come out on PC on D1.

it's a good game but calling the fan response "drummed up negativity" and trying to make it sound disingenuous isn't right

yeah there's tons of stuff wrong with DS1 and tons of stuff they improved in DS2 but in my opinion they nailed the really important stuff in the first game and totally whiffed with the sequel. it's an OK game but not great, and i'm glad i got it at a discount or i would have been pretty upset.

also the way they marketed the game was super shitty
The problem with the 'marketing of the game' was super blown out of proportion. The game was downgraded, yes, but we got *plenty* of screenshots showing the game in its proper state. We had all the warning we could have needed. I agree they could have pulled the pre-downgrade footage from the promo materials on Steam, but all the complaints about them trying to bullshit us on purpose or something were ridiculous.

And no, I don't think the criticism of DSII has been disingenuous, I just think it became a popular thing to do where people start to pile on and I think if you applied the same excrutiating critique to Demon's or Dark 1, they wouldn't 'seem' nearly as good in the public's eye, either. I think, somewhat justifiably, those two games get a pass because they were both far more 'pioneering' than DSII, but they were still quite flawed in many ways, just as DSII is if you want to get down to it. I agree DSII isn't as inspired as those games and I think the lack of doing something properly fresh feeling with the formula made it a far less remarkable game, but it is still a quality game, especially if you want to compare to other games instead of just Demon's and Dark 1.

Just sayin, don't skip out on this because you hear a lot of negativity around. I don't think you're getting a representative picture of the game's quality if you just measure how much negativity you hear vs positivity. And that goes for quite a lot of other things as well. People like to complain.

With Bloodborne potentially coming out a couple weeks before this, it's going to be an easy wait for it to go on sale. I wasn't ever interested in this game due to Miyazaki not being involved in any way. Seemed like more of a cash grab by Namco than anything and this re-release seems like they're trying to piggyback off of Bloodborne.

I didn't get that feeling from DS2 at all, but I'm sorry you did.

& i'm truly sorry that all you got from demon's souls was 'beta feel' (whatever that means). for every one thing that game might've gotten wrong, it got half-a-dozen things right, & fabricated a solid foundation for every souls game that's followed...

.....what?

I never said AotA wasn't charged for on consoles, I said it was free on PC, yeah, in context it was free due to it being a late as hell port...but the fact remains it was free...on PC. Which is exactly what I said.

And where did you cognitively disconnect by assuming anything about me not wanting DkS2 on PC either? It didn't come out on D1, which is another travesty of the incompetence of the developer's, they couldn't even fix the durability system to work properly at 60fps...even given the time between releases to do so.

So really, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I don't see how they're piggybacking off Bloodborne. If anything having the games close together will hurt sales for DS2, since there will be people who will pick the newer game over the older one.

In my case I haven't played DS2 yet, so I'm going to play that first and leave Bloodborne for the summer dry spell.

I missed the first release of Dark Souls II. I was about to pick it up the other day, but I'm glad I waited now.

wait, as an owner of the PC version and all of the DLC content Namco wants me to pay for the new DX11 engine enhancements ? why isn't this part of the free-patch ?

Couple of things

This wont have the lighting we saw in the beta footage at e3 and other trade shows. Its not in the PC version, which IMO, will remain the superior version of the game even after these next-gen versions are released.

Unless they release a new PC version similar to Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition, then this game will essentially be a port of the PC version to consoles.

That seems more of a excuse than a actual argument... What "new content/gameplay" are you referring to to make the leap of logic that it would be in essence a 4th DLC, even if we did agree that the Season Pass only accounted for 3 things, we don't. It never stated that, nor did anybody ever even imply it on any level, Bio Inf included all kinds of new DLC in the Season Pass, more than three.

And don't get me started on Borderlands/Payday 2/Capcom/etc DLC nonsense.
You just love arguing huh? I said for me IF it would have enough content to be considered as large as a dlc it would be worth the 15 I would pay for it. I never said there would be that content.

I was more referring to PC/XB1 owners who can't play Bloodborne. Releasing it so close they are practically saying, "Can't play Bloodborne? You can play this!"

Yes, that's exactly what it was: a foundation - an intriguing set of new mechanics with a rather barebones game built around them. These mechanics were then fully realized in Dark Souls 1 and 2.

I knew this will happen but still I'm so happy right now.
Will be great to play a Souls Game that runs fluidly. Hope it will be 60fps. But solid 30fps would be nice either.

Wonder if it'll be delayed since the release of Bloodborne is now March with this coming out in April..

Not enough grind time for Bloodborne if it will in fact be like a typical Souls game. Kind of stinks for the die hards.

There will be a new Direct X 11 version of the game for PC. It is in the updated OP.

Read the title and thought that they now put the old visuals in and got intrigued. Then I saw the trailer and screens and it doesn't really look better than the pc version of old... Certainly not what I was initially expecting when I read the thread title. So close to bloodborne that I will propably skip this.

I was expecting a Demon's through Dark II remaster collection to announced for PS4 one or two years from now, to be honest. I guess thinking about it, it doesn't make sense for Demon's and Dark to be packaged together.

you found the tower of latria to be 'barebones"?! like i say, man, you have my sympathy :) ...

All this salt from DS2 haters

Loved DS1, but never picked up its successor. This may be a good time but whether it'll be short or a long wait prior to or post price drop will depends completely on how bloodborne reviews.

Funny how I almost picked up Dark Souls II for Xbox 360 from Best Buy's Early BF deals for $15. I'd rather just wait for the Xbox One release!

I haven't played the first one, nor the second, but I am awfully curious about the series, and I am willing to give it a shot.

Well, going solely off the "announcement", there doesn't seem to be ANY real new content, besides NPC stuff/balancing/etc, which isn't really new content. Sooo...it isn't worth $15. Based on your terms and what they've announced.

Dark Souls looks and plays amazing at higher resolutions. The art style really shows itself.

This. Dark Souls at high res on PC looks a lot more organic and visually striking than its sequel, which suffered really badly from flat lighting and bland art design.

They didn't remaster nothing. I'm pretty sure this version was planned since the beginning, also I doubt next gen version will have 60 fps support. I mean, they are aiming to 30 fps for Bloodborne, and that's the main team.
Port whatever. I just want ds1 on ps4 so I can get rid of the ps3
