343 addresses ongoing Halo MCC Matchmaking issues

Holy Shit you are wrong...bf4 when it launched was much more broken than halo mcc. Even if you got into a game it was almost guaranteed to crash at launch. MCC works in some points (having great luck with halo 2 anniversary rumble)
Wrong, I had battlefield 4 at launch of the ps4/Xbox one and you could play team death match, domination, rush and a few other game modes. The only game mode which constantly had issues was conquest.

I remember almost nothing from Reach's campaign to be honest outside of that one level that was a poor man's Truth and Reconciliation, the death of that bland Spartan who wore the darker blue armor, and the last part where you fight endless waves of Covenant until you die (that was legit awesome). If Reach would have followed the Fall of Reach book (and actually given us a good Master Chief origin story too) it would have been the GOAT.

If Reach had followed the Fall of Reach book it would have been a shit game. It didn't and it was the best campaign of the series for it.

Far worse than BF4 imo

Main issue with that game at launch was singleplayer save corruption, sound issues, and crashes. I still completed many matches.

The title update improved Reach though....

...

.....

Hold up.

Hold up.

You think the decline of Halo... started AFTER the introduction of:

Bloom
Loadouts
Fucking Armor Lock
Sprint

Seriously? Am I fucking reading this right. Bash Halo 4 all you want, I'm with you. But to say Reach wasn't the start of decline in Halo, I disagree. Shit maps, shit design choices. Bungie fucked up. 343i took what was wrong with Reach a step further.

I did like how the title update reduced/got rid of bloom and underpowered Armor Lock. Those were welcomed features.

And Jetpack..

I really cant understand why someone would think Halo Reach was not the game that started Halo decline.

Utter nonsense. The game was a hot mess at launch. You can't expect 343 to shine a turd that's exactly what Reach was, a piece of shit that only served as a way for Bungie to test out gameplay mechanics and designs they wanted to use in Destiny.

I agree ith this, after playing destiny, Reach feels like it as the blue print for Destiny.

On Topic:

I really ant them to fix firtst the uneven game roblem and party problems as well,

Glad I returned this broken mess. Like I said before, after they fix this, MS should refund all and make this a free XBL with gold download. It would make up for the incompetence of MS, 343i, restore faith in 343/ Halo and bring a huge base of players back.

Over CE, 3, and ODST?

I-dont-believe-you.gif

at least we're talking about games that work :(

Shopto require a faulty reference number given to me from microsoft for me to return halo MCC to them.

wow.

Guess i'm stuck with selling the game off at a lower price.

And ODST was the blueprint for Reach. And Marathon was the blueprint for Halo. Bunggie is frequently building off of their past works.

Edit: Sorry, I meant to edit this into my last post but I forgot.

LOL, ehhhhhhh No, Halo MCC is not the first game that has come out as a "broken mess", when they fix the ongoing problems, the game will probably work as intended, why would they put it for free?

A small compensation for the early adopters? absolutely, but give the game for free to even those that didnt went tough all the current issues? no way.

Oh hey look! A NeoGAF thread that derailed into bashing Halo Reach... again!

Halo 4 was the beginning of the end. 343's involvement was the downfall of Halo, not Reach, let's get that straight.

I've stated since early this year that both Halo 5, and anything else 343 touches would not have the same quality as the previous entries, and Stinkles laughed.

Well, I'm sure things are pretty humble over at 343i right now.

Halo is dead. Long live new IP's and let's stop beating a dead franchise.

For the record, I thought Reach was incredibly fun if you played the Team SWAT or Anniversary playlists. And I really loved the DMR. However, the main game with armor lock, jetpacks, and all of that loadout nonsense sucked. The title update improved things a bit, but I still would rather just play the two playlists mentioned earlier.

is not the same when you take a flagship, multi million stablished fracnhise, change a bunch of mechanic as your test ground for new game that has no connection whatsoever to said franchise.

I also felt that ODST was Bungie testing stuff for Destiny (hint: open world FPS, Firefight)

It should already work as intended and based on how the first patch went and todays statement there is no guarantee that it will any time soon.

Why all the Reach bashing?

The Multiplayer was fun and the arena was a fairly solid ranked battleground

The story was great too. You guys just love hating don't you.

Reach did have my favorite campaign in a Halo game. Absolutely loved how everything slowly turned to shit and situation got worse and worse. Loved that campaign.

Don't these things happen more often than not with big releases? Why are people still buying on day 1? And why are we still surprised?

Servers gonna swerve yo.

Ya but this is halo we're talking about. It has a reputation. MS has a reputation and 343i needs to build one. So far 343i has only ruined theirs. Fix the damn game, make it a free download. Get people back. Get people interested in Halo5.

Multibillion MS can take a small hit for now in return for more xb1 sales, xbl sales and future Halo5 sales.

They dont need to give the game for free to build a reputation. they just need to release a solid product.

I think these comparisons are kind of up in the air and on a case by case basis. BF4 for me was a completely broken mess when I got it for the Xbox One at launch. I lost my single player save numerous times and just gave up on that (it wasn't just checkpoints being lost, it was the whole freaking campaign...). Multiplayer was, for me, completely broken. Over half the time I couldn't get into a game. When I did the party system wouldn't work (members would drop, voice chat stopped working for certain people, etc...), the lag and/or rubber banding was insane, and the majority of the time the game would crash before the match ended and would completely lock up the system forcing me to hard reset. All of this was if I could even get the game to boot at all. Most of the time when I tried to launch the game it would show the initial splash screen and then back out to the Xbox dashboard after about a minute.

On the other side of the coin Halo:MCC has been working well for me most of the time. I've only had two issues with any of the campaigns. During a single session of CE co-op every two minutes or so the game would completely freeze, except for the camera, for about 30 seconds on the Silent Cartographer (tried it again a day later with the same friend and had no issue). I also encountered the sound glitch when the flood first appear. Aside from that the campaigns have been flawless for me. I've completed 7 levels in CE, 3 levels in Halo 2, and I think 5 levels in Halo 4. I haven't lost a save, had the game crash, had any frame rate issues, etc... With the multiplayer I only had one day where I couldn't get into games. Granted about half the games I have gotten into have been unbalanced and here and there it throws me into the wrong playlist but that's the most I can complain about.

Obviously this goes to show that people are having vastly different experiences. This probably adds to the headache of trying to fix things for 343. I won't pretend to understand code or networking but trying to fix a variety or problems that only show up for some people while not others has to make things extremely difficult. Should the game have worked at launch? Absolutely. Does it make sense that narrowing down these problems with so many variables in the mix is taking some time? I'd think so. The situation sucks and I feel fortunate that my experience hasn't been anywhere near as bad as others on the board but I definitely feel your pain after the train wreck that was BF4. The industry really needs to start releasing functioning games at launch...

I know everyone hates Armor Lock, myself included, but FFA Elite Slayer on Zealot where everyone chose Armor Lock and Plasma Grenades was some of the most fun I've ever had in a Halo game, no joke.

Yup. Among Halo 4's mistakes was 343 making it a sequel to Reach's gameplay, not Halo 3's. In some ways Halo 4 was a natural evolution of Reach....and that was a huge mistake. Halo 3 should have been the baseline.

So many varying opinions. This usually happens with a game series that has been around as long as Halo. People have very different opinions of what "real Halo" is. Ive been a big fan since Halo CE.

My 2 cents: Halo Reach was by far the worst Halo multiplayer game. Just horrible maps on top of the armor lock nonsense. Some of the worst maps of any multiplayer game. It relied on user created forge maps which looked ugly as hell.

Halo 4 was a drastic improvement. The thruster pack alone in Halo 4 sets it way out in front. I actually really miss the thruster when returning to the older games. My big beef with H4 wasnt the weapon drops - it was that in CTF it showed the flag carrier at all times to everyone. This is a big no no for Halo CTF. H2A fixed this. H4 also introduced an objective mode that was just as good as assault or CTF: ricochet. It fits the Halo gameplay perfectly. I hope we see more of this mode in H5.

H4 stands just below 1,2,3 for me - its a great multiplayer game compared to whats out there these days. Playing it back to back on this collection with the older games seals it for me - its a nice change of pace. I love the crazy movement options in H4.

and it works!

Not for me it doesn't. I've yet to finish more than a handful of multiplayer matches in Destiny because I get constantly disconnected with the "Bee" error code. I've been playing XBL games for over 10 years on the same internet connection with no problems, and I'm a network admin so I guarantee my LAN is set up correctly.

So here's my experience with next gen so far:

Destiny - constant disconnects. Literally unplayable

Halo MCC - you all know how this goes

AC Unity - absolute disaster technically

I'm about to go back to PC permanently and say to hell with this generation of consoles. My Xbox One has been the biggest waste of money in my life.

That is an atypical experience so it's probably your ISP.

How does something like this not get discovered by an internal QA process? Isn't that the point of it?

Good question. My guess is that the current QA process is inept to keep up with today's online gaming demands.

The list of AAA competitive/popular online games that don't work is longer than the list of ones that do.

BF4 (it still hasn't been fixed)
COD AW (terrible netcode)
Halo MCC (you know the drill)
DriveClub (you know the drill)
Destiny (Disconnects are becoming more and more problematic).

So you want them to eat the entire costs of making and marketing this game? That's absurd.

It has it's positives and negatives.

Marketing it free with XBL will get more people buying xb1's, Xbox live and will show good faith and character in MS. It will also put more people on to Halo5.

They messed up and screwed us over. They make enough money to take the hit on the cost of the game. They will make it back with increased sales overtime anyway.

I haven't heard of the Destiny issues nor seen complaints of it. It certainly not in the same league as the others.

It definitely is my ISP, yeah, but I have no choice in that matter. I know I'm not the only one that has issues with the "Bee" error code. There's a thread on Bungie.net detailing their progress towards resolving the error. But this is all OT. Fact of the matter is that this gen has been a mess. Halo MCC is just the newest example.

How will they make it back with the Sale of a product that is going to be free?

More xb1's, XBL, halo5, more games ect.

I dont think expenses/revenues in the video game industry works that way. but yeah, anyway, it doesnt matter, they are not going to make MCC free, either expect something like more time in the Halo 5 Beta, a free DLC for MCC or Halo 5, or Free XBL gold. but something that is valued around $20 Dollars.

Wait what ?

So Giving a game away that was shipped broken and remains broken 2 week after release will get people to buy Xbox's ?

Drive Club comparison seems a bit unfair imo. 343i didn't delay the game a full year, promise a free version and then sh*t the bed and pull back the free version indefinitely.

343i just opened the door on and puked on the floor a bit.
Eh? At least DriveClub's single player & gameplay worked flawlessly and it was only the online that was blowing up their servers, whereas this seems like it has troubles no matter if it's online or off.

And I don't see why you're so butthurt about the PS+ Edition being delayed. It would have done no one any good if they had not only had actual paying customers screwing up the servers, but the potentially hundreds of thousands or even millions of other users playing the PS+ Edition as well. Everyone would have been miserable and possibly for far longer than they did now. They did the right thing with focusing on fixing the underlying issues for the paying customers first and only making the PS+ Edition available when they believe the issues are fully solved and won't cause another server overload.

Halo 4 sucked, sold worse than Halo 3

Most of the Halo books post Bungie suck, Contact Harvest and Fall of Reach are still the best

Wasn't a fan of FuD, got decent reviews

Halo MCC is broken, will lose them sales on Halo 5

Halo Nightfall has been destroyed by reviews and sucks

Halo 5 has pissed of many fans due to ADS and sprint aswell as low killtimes

343i sucks at building the Halo franchise

You want them to try to remake another game?

Also Halo 4 that is shipped on the game isn't even the most up to date version...

Everything you said was dead on but bolded is why they need a shake up there. It starts with great games. You had Reach which was solid but a large vocal outcry about what they didn't like. You had Halo Wars which was great. To date we have Halo 4 and a crappy mobile game. Halo 5 is a step by dropping some of the unpopular things but ADS and sprint are deal breakers for a lot of the community and that is how NOT to build a brand.
