Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

well thats what crytek did, they finished working on the pc game, then went back to it and DX11 was ready after 2 months of working, add many graphical features to the game and it made a HUGE HUGE difference, same happened on shogun 2, your logic might apply for PS4/Xbone but not for PC.

Like I said, having a free update would be better, obviously. I don't *want* to pay for Dark Souls II again, but if the changes are substantial enough, I won't be that bothered by it, either. I recognize the realities of development and the fact that they all need to get paid, too. If the updates are minor, or even if some things are changes for the worse, I will simply not buy it and continue enjoying the existing version of Dark Souls II.

The only one pretending is you. You're claiming to know shit that you do not.

I'm saying that I do not know and that I will wait and see, but the language indicates that there's more than what you're going on about.

Either way, we don't know right now. Criticizing a game over baseless assumptions is a pretty dumb thing to do.

ok dude haha, baseless assumptions when the game was downgraded thanks to parity lol, we shall wait then, but dont get "surprised" if your turn out to be very wrong, i will no longer continue this since youre a clear supporter of this kind of attitude.

What does the game having been downgraded compared to early footage have to do with the gameplay changes they say will go into this new version? Your baseless assumption is that two new players in multiplayer is the only change.

I don't even know what you're talking about anymore.

I havent played this but with bloodborne coming out shortly before...i'll wait for a price drop
I'm actually sad about this. I knew Dark Souls 2 would be re-released on PS4, but the timing in horrendous. I was really hoping to see it sooner. The release date is much too close to Bloodborne. By the time I'm done playing Bloodborne, DkS2 will be in the bargain bin.

lets wait to see what these gameplay changes are ok? because so far they only showed 2 more players to Multiplayer, my gripe here is hiding better graphics behind a paywall in case you did not notice, charging for more gameplay mechanics or substancial changes to gameplay is another thing, but charging for better graphics on pc is not, did i made my point clear to you now?

Oh how quickly people forget...

These 'new features' we're being offered were already implemented into the PC version when they were advertising the game pre-release. The PC version's features were gimped intentionally at release to have parity with current gen consoles. Given that fact, asking us to pay to bring that game back to it's original quality is shifty at least, and fucking despicable at its worst.

Some people here think this is a remaster......

One thing of note, they are pricing this in Japan at 5,200 Yen for the download version. The original Japanese release was priced at 7,500 Yen for the download version.

Not that that has anything to do with prices outside of Japan, but it does seem like FROM, at least, is positioning this as a discounted all-in-one version.

Unless it's Metro Redux, right?

But yes, let's wait and see what the changes are before flipping the fuck out.

Well, fuck that. And I ain't buying the Season Pass unless it's EXTREME DISCOUNT sale this Steam sale.

Fuck From and Namco. There's no reason they can't put the DX11 rendering in the previous version/sub on Steam.

of coruse there is a reason, Parity lol, this thing cant die sooner, we need to kill it.

Time to throw Lords of the fallen in the garbage.

And get this excellent game.Smart decision on me to have not played the DLC.

Man this will be so goooood.

Reading through this thread, sometimes I forget that not everyone plays on PC.

My experience with the Souls series so far has been 4K/60 FPS for the most part. Which is an utterly different experience from many in this thread.

I have to think about situations from a different perspective sometimes.

there was no downgrade on Metro bro u_u, let me break it down to you, its not Ok to sell better graphics that you cutted from PC in the first place like Watch Dogs and Dark Souls 2 did, its NOT OK to sell DX11 and its feature on PC in plain 2014 when EVERY game should have those, its OK to sell truly NEWER better assets, textures, character models and so on, that is a TRUE remaster and i should be discounted heavily for previous owners lol, what is happening on Dark Souls 2 does not fit any of that, also i did not buy Metro Redux, and its the only case of this happening on PC, and i am not ok with it.

You're ridiculous. Talking about "parity" as if its a living entity or something.

You're not going to get your desired universe where multiplatform games are somehow developed in a way that takes advantage of each platform in unique ways. Resources are always limited and that's just not how development pipelines work. At best, you'll get some added features, but the base game will almost always be made with the weaker platforms in mind.

Only invest in platform exclusives if that bothers you so much.

It looks like the downgrades (volumetric lighting being removed) were later patched back into Redux after being missing at launch. I stand corrected on that point. I just remember the angry posts at the time of launch.

Again, you're not really getting what happened to the PC version. That amazing looking version we were shown but never got does not exist anymore. From what we've seen so far, it won't be coming back with this new version on PS4/XBO/PC. They made a decision at some point to change how the game looked for one reason or another and it doesn't look like they're ever going back to that. This is not a case of graphics or features that were stripped out now being added back in for a price.

Oh ok Namco, ya fuck this package.

I'm curious, are some people going to skip Bloodborne for this? (Of course I'm excluding people who dont nor want to own a ps4)

This seems more of a Namco thing than something directly from FROM Software so hell no I ain't missing on the goodness that is BloodBorne.
Edit: Unless you just meant if some people want to buy this rather than BloodBorne because of how close to each other they are now.

dont go calling me ridiculous because i hate parity,i only play exclusives on consoles and mutiplataforms on PC, developers should polish every version of the game, not dumb down all versions for the sake of one plataform, what is wrong with you? look how Shadow of mordor is on the PS3/Xbox 360, youre telling me that every version should be like that because its easier to develop? cmon

It's quite possible that it is actually. Both Deus Ex and Sleeping Dogs got their original versions removed from Steam. In this case of DS2, this would mean that anyone who buys the game after April would be unable to play with someone who owns the original.

Oh fuck, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, PC owners will really get the shaft here if that's the case. :\ They aren't even cross-play, right?

My sentiments are hardly original, but I have very mixed feelings about this. When I read the title, I thought it was DLC #4, which I would have been unreservedly enthusiastic about. However, this is like a clusterfuck of additional content split between so many versions...still not really clear after reading most of this thread whether we can expect new areas/bosses or not.

I don't really care to rebuy the game for prettier graphics, though, especially as a PC player.

I don't know if i could run DkS1 at 4k/60fps.

Never mind the fact that lately i've been getting pretty frequent and harsh freezes with it.
I'll wait for the Steamworks transition to look for a fix tho.

What visual upgrade? Seriously i don't see anything particularly different in the screens/video from Gamersyde.

Unless it's minimal stuff (that break the performance. :P) like Sleeping Dogs "definitive" edition.

People played the beautiful pre-release demo of DS2 on PS3. It feels like the reason the graphics were stripped back was so they could resell people on the next gen version a year later.

"Illusory video ahead.
Beware of liar."
LOL

-yeah again, the video they released (and the screens) look nothing like that though, they look like, more or less, the game we already got.

PRobably with a stronger, more obnoxious AO and godrays.

They'd be pretty bad, since they're not cross play.
(and they shouldn't be cross play, if they applied significant gameplay changes).

Could have been the remaster of the generation if they also included dark souls 1 and both at 60fps.

I was all excited until I saw the note about rebuying...even on PC. Someone needs to send Bamco a letter or start a petition on that.

As far as gameplay changes...meh. The gameplay was fine except the DLCs made playing a faith-bro almost impossible. When you're soul lvl 140, have a fully upgraded 2H, cast sunlight blade and sacred oath with 50 Faith...and the enemies just laugh at your damage, you know the devs lost their minds.

My biggest problem with Dark Souls II is that it continues the trend of play this way or else. All builds should be viable on all New Games...but past the first game you're stuck using whatever cheap tricks you have to scrape by. In particular Faith builds using lightning spears are pretty much useless. The builds that destroy the game without effort are, no surprise, dudes in giant armor with massive 2H weapons. Dark Souls I was better about this, but had fewer options. Dark Souls 2 has more options, but many of them aren't viable past a certain point.

Oh well, Bloodborne is looking great.
