Gematsu: Sony to hold Playstation Experience event in December

Because sony said it was about showing off games at the event for people attending, interviews, making ofs etc.. 'Exciting new announcements' was just one of the many features of this event and people are just focusing on that. An announcement could be 'we sold 15m PS4's' for all we know. Or a new trailer or DLC could also be seen as a new announcement. Of course I hope to be wrong but the hype in here is getting crazy. I mean FFVII remake ? really?

Yeah I don't disagree with you (not expecting ffviir) but I wouldn't be surprised if it had two game announcements (Jaffe plus horizon plus whatever TWE is jazzed about), one or two new indies, game play footage of upcoming games and a surprise exclusivity (no man's sky) or morpheus (no man's sky) announcement. That would honestly make it as big as E3 I think.

The sad truth
Poor Crash. Bring the marsupial back home!

New games from Capcom and Square Enix seem to have a good chance of showing up as well now.

Sony lacks good platformer, Crash was the best one and instantly became Playstation mascot, Sackboy or Knack are false gods which I refuse bowing to. It's Crash or nothing for me.

Medievil, Parappa, Ape Escape wouldn't hype me up like Bandicoot, but I wouldn't mind Syphon Filter or Legend of Dragoon rebooted, idk.

GAF has to crash on dec 6th.

I would prefer new IPs to be honest. But quite frankly apart from that Jaffe game and cool new trailers of games we already know I'm not hoping for more. You guys are treating it like E3.. Cant wait to see the dissapointments lol

Sony and Nintendo really doesn't treat E3 the place to use most of their 12 month new game announcement cycle. They announce them throughout the year via direct videos and/or Gamescom/TGS/etc.

It's PS' 20th anniversary and they have a lot of unannounced games in the works and information on upcoming games that aren't known. I think the chances of someone being disappointed outside of unrealistic expectations is slim.

There's too much information out there surrounding this event (and December) to believe that the Jaffe game will be the only game announcement. You just have to use the Youtube video description to know this.
Many surprises await at PlayStation Experience 2014.

I don't think those FFVII posts were serious.

Do you guys believe Guerilla Games or Santa Monica will reveal their new games? I'm a bit split on it, wouldn't be surprised if they save that for E3 2015 but on the other hand this is a perfect time to reveal something big and new if it's ready to be shown.

No to GG I think they will only do a panel, maybe some initial reveal trailer for SM if we're lucky.

I won't mind a teaser trailer and then full game blow later next year.
E3 is still big but Sony has been showing games all year round.

I think a reveal trailer for GG happens. People know it exists already.

I've been a little out of the loop but is there an actual streamed press conference for this? If so, when is it? I couldn't find clear info on that...

That's what I want next as well. Not necessarily as heavy as mass effect, but with some of that and humor/story.

Seriously, if Naughty Dog made a sci-fi adventure RPG like a cross between the humour/tone of Firefly and the epicness of Mass Effect I would probably faint with joy.

Crash is not happening guys. So many reasons

Why would Activision sell it?
Why would sony spend 10s of millions buying it when it wouldnt sell that much anyway?
Who would even make it? Everyone from that era of Naughty Dog is DEAD no longer with the company.

Unless Sony does a Grim Fandango and greases the wheels to get Activision making a crash game on its own but then it will probably be made by some C team who spent the last half decade making COD maps and who would want that?

Guerrilla might have something - although I think they're more likely to talk about the tenth anniversary of Killzone than their next game Horizon, but I'm certain SSM will not be there showing anything new. Cory has only been back at the studio for about 15 months now, and I think has insinuated they're not going to have anything to show for some time yet. Whatever they're working on (probably GoW), I wouldn't expect it will be ready for release before late 2016.

Why would Activision sell it?
A dead franchise that would be extremely difficult for them to revive on their own without completely fouling the IP. It would cost a fair bit and would be risky to pull out; would be hard to predict the success of Skylanders design working with Crash in some way.
Also, money. If Sony offered $500m for example, that is a large cashflow with no effort but laying on a dead IP.

Why would sony spend 10s of millions buying it when it wouldnt sell that much anyway?
That's purely conjecture that it wouldn't sell much. With a sufficient marketing campaign, a brand new Crash Bandicoot on PS4 could sell a lot of units worthy to justify a large cost to acquiring the IP, especially at Christmas time aimed towards the family market, which Sony plans to target more towards in 2015. The brand recognition for Crash Bandicoot always reminds people of the PSone days and Sony were keen to push that during the PlayStation Meeting in February 2013 when they announced the PS4; this experience event is definitely giving me vibes of that too after Sony posted the Vine's of the PS1 and PS2 bootup screens with sounds and the picture of the PS1 memory cards with #memories.

Who would even make it? Everyone from that era of Naughty Dog is DEAD no longer with the company.
That's not to say another creative team at Naughty Dog couldn't create it, but want to know whom I think would be second best? Media Molecule.

Edit: Just to add one more thing. Naughty Dog did give a nod to Crash Bandicoot in their Uncharted 4 trailer with the animation, and the narration by Sully could be referring to both Uncharted 4 story, or doing a Crash Bandicoot "...one last time, for old times sake".

I think crash will probably make gaf very happy if it ever happens. Sales wise, that's another deal...

Word. The nostalgia effect alone would make this game sell more copies than all those other plattormes like Sly Copper, Ratcher & Clank.
Sanzaru Games could develop the game or Sony Bend. There are enough studios that have the talent

The result of Sony acquiring Crash Bandicoot isn't just a new game, although that would be awesome, but it would practically guarantee a new Playstation fighter as well. Seriously, Crash alone could make PSABR 2 or whatever it would be called come to fruition, that's how requested he was for the game and how integral to PS history he is.

I just hope that if that does happen, Sony puts a dependable, noteworthy developer behind it, and gives them a budget this time. And ditches the Super kill system. And tells the likes of Evil Cole, Raiden, Dante and Big Daddy to fuck off.

I honestly can't imagine ND ever making RPG, especially on the scale of Mass Effect. seems like ND approach is usually to make around 8-10 hours game with smaller/fewer scale or environment compared to full blown RPG, but they push the production value of those environment to crazy level.

if ND had to make RPG on the scale of Mass Effect with lots of planets, 30+hour story, voice acting, etc. they probably can't keep the production value on par with their more linear game like Uncharted and TLoU. which I assume, is what everyone asking for a ND RPG want from ND. awesome production value like Uncharted on a much bigger RPG scale.

I'd melt if Sony and SE made a dissidia with characters from both publishers

The could take the Witcher series as a template and just add their own flare to it.

I understand that there's nostalgia associated with Crash, but the game is extremely straightforward and basic. There is absolutely no way Naughty Dog would ever consider going back to it, even if they could. They are firmly focused on storytelling. Uncharted 4, TLOU2 and new IPs is all we should expect from them.

I'm totally up for a Crash game handled by a new studio or something.

Of course that's not going to happen either.

I honestly wouldn't mind an uncharted-esque game set in space...GotG tone...

A Reboot would work

Andy Gavin, co-creator of Crash Bandicoot, is quoted in an interview from May 2013 as saying that, "Crash needs a total reboot. There’s an opportunity to reset the history, and go back to his creation story and the original conflict with Cortex. In that context, you could reprise classic Crash 1 and 2’s settings and villains. It would make sense to use a more modern, free-roaming style. I would concentrate on Looney Tunes-esque animation and really addictive action. That’s what we did with the original Crash, and there’s no reason it couldn’t be done today. Given [Activision's] Crash games, people forget that he was once cool. [Naughty Dog's] Crash had a certain whimsical edge to him. Sure, it was goofy – but it wasn’t dumb."
