Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

Pretty crap sale from what I've seen. Stuff that's usually $5 isn't. That's all I need to see. Wait for the Winter sale.

Pretty decent deal on The Evil Within, though.

LOL. Will do :)

I have to say, I really hate the new Steam frontpage design. It's so fucking confusing, I'm always lost.

Also you have to scroll down to see the daily deal (when not during a special sale) which is really dumb.

I actively dislike people who like it.

For noobs: The Summer Sale and Winter Sale are the best possible options (broadest amount of stuff on sale, deepest discounts). Discounts get bigger the longer a game has been out, so if you don't think you're going to play something between now and the next sale, wait for the next sale (unless it's a licensed title or something that's probably going to be pulled). It's incredibly rare that anything gets a "best ever" sale unless it's a pricing error, so generally if you see a sale and are thinking about waiting, wait.

I know all of this seems like a buzzkill to someone who's knew to Steam and wants to build a library, but it's true. At some point you'll look at your backlog and say "wow, I dramatically overspent on all this stuff I haven't played".

Obviously if you want to buy something for any price, buy it. You're not an idiot for doing so. But the strategy that minimizes your chance of regretting a decision you made is to wait.

Don't buy a game if you don't want to play it right now is my advice. It's not like this is the last sale ever. There will be more sales and bundles.
This really cant be stated enough. I joined the PC gaming scene a year ago and went completely overboard on buying games because 'everything was such a good deal!'. I completely regret it.

Its nice to have these games, but the large majority of them are still sitting unplayed today because there's really only so much time. And I think that's another thing to remember - most of you will never have time to play every good game out there. So many games will be appealing sounding and a good price, but are you actually going to play it in the near future? Honestly answer that and don't buy it if you aren't sure you'll play it.

I actively dislike people who like it.
It really is awful. I actively like people who actively dislike people who like it. Its that bad.

I agree. The whole "discovery" stuff is stupid when it hides sales and things I WANT to find under a bunch of stuff that I DON'T WANT to find.

Calm down self, take a deep breath. Jesus. I'm new to Steam, snapped up a few good games in the Halloween sale - The Walking Dead, Alan Wake and others. Will have to take another look tonight!

I don't get the "it's so confusing!!!44!" posts. No matter how bad Valve are with UI/UX they always make it clear if there's something special going on. Whether it's flash sale, meta game or community voting. In this sale we have a top block for 48 hour deals, then a bottom block for 24 hour deals and the one after it is the list block, which always marks the end. The sale blocks always precede that.

First hour of Steam sales: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter re-enters Top 20, sells more in one hour than in the whole last week.

How are you going to tell me beyond earth is cheaper than alien isolation right now

waiting on the daily I guess

how is the long dark? Loooks sweet but who knows how it plays. I dont really care that it doesnt have a story mode per say. I would play New Vegas 100 hours without a story mode.(bad example I guess as there are side quests)

On the Big Picture mode of Steam. CoD Advanced Warfare has a sticker on it saying -75%. Is that a glitch?

Usually the price for autumn and winter dailies are the same. so if you see something that you want to play now and is on dailies, go for it.

That's some awesome advice right there. So easy to get caught up in whatever the current sale is, but there's always a sale going on.

Virtually everything on the store is discounted, but as always, wait until the last day of the sale before buying anything you particularly want that is discounted by less than 75% as there's a chance that the items may appear as Daily Deals as the sale progresses. Also note that the Autumn and Winter Sales share the same discounts* (not deals; discounts), so don't fret if you miss a Daily as it may reappear in a few weeks' time.

* It's not unheard of for certain games to skip the Autumn Sale and only be discounted during the Winter Sale, so a game you'd like currently being full price doesn't necessarily mean the situation won't change come the latter.

Is Lords of the Fallen worth picking up for someone who usually likes 3rd person games with good combat controls, like the Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor? I'm all about the controls (hate the Assassin's Creed series because of the combat).
