Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

I don't normally *ever* do this, but I'm going to have to whistleblow something here:

Running With Rifle's current sale price in this sale is a complete fake. Literally a day ago, just before this sale, it's regular price was $10, but for the sale today it was raised to $15 and is now "On sale" for $10.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but that's quite scummy to take advantage of the "On Sale" effect without being a genuine sale compared to the normal price.

They also increased DayZ's price.

Crosspost from the other thread, might as well put this matter to rest unless someone else digs up something again.

There, a little honesty goes a long way.

I'll just chalk this one up to poor communication and forethought now that they've came forward on it without using the "Late Access" gag.

If you're talking about the 24 and 48 hour sale games, then no. Looks like these are the 8 and 24 hour dailies in other sales and those are the lowest price points. Any game currently on sale but not a part of these sales are that price for the duration of the autumn sale, and if they go on the 24 or 48 hour deals, then they'll be lower
Cool thanks.

It's a shame they messed up this little transition, because I really want Running With Rifles to do well just based on the many hours of fun I had with the singleplayer demo alone, ages ago when it had only a fraction of the features the game has now.

I mean, 500 vs 500, c'mon

I think I might sit this one out. If the Winter Sale is in 2-3 weeks, then buying games will give me cards to get cool emotes and all that.

Kind of a weird sale that probably only exist for American Black Friday.

so far im in for

Broken sword trilogy $3.99
Blackwell Convergence $1.99
Edna & Harvey: The Breakout $3.74
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood $3.74

For noobs: The Summer Sale and Winter Sale are the best possible options (broadest amount of stuff on sale, deepest discounts). Discounts get bigger the longer a game has been out, so if you don't think you're going to play something between now and the next sale, wait for the next sale (unless it's a licensed title or something that's probably going to be pulled). It's incredibly rare that anything gets a "best ever" sale unless it's a pricing error, so generally if you see a sale and are thinking about waiting, wait.

I know all of this seems like a buzzkill to someone who's knew to Steam and wants to build a library, but it's true. At some point you'll look at your backlog and say "wow, I dramatically overspent on all this stuff I haven't played".

Obviously if you want to buy something for any price, buy it. You're not an idiot for doing so. But the strategy that minimizes your chance of regretting a decision you made is to wait.

My rule is 50% on must-haves-at-some-point, and I got that with three just now. Plus, I like rewarding good devs who do me good.

Tri: Of Friendship And Madness was totally worth full price, got 15 hours out of it according to Steam and enjoyed it very much. If you like First Person Puzzlers like Protal/Q.U.B.E/QBeh-1/Antichamber I highly recommend it at this price.

I have only spent 14 cents so far in this sale.

In fact, I spent 4.85 more at Origin because I bought Titanfall.

Nothing too exciting for me so far. Most of the really cheap games I already own from bundles or previous sales.

I might have been tempted with a 75% off Watch Dogs...

What's only .14 on Steam right now? I might as well grab that.

Hmm. I wasn't planning to pick up Beyond Earth just yet, but the launch of OS X support (a major convenience for me on the go) in conjunction with a 30% discount is a serious enticement. That said, a rapid price drop may signal an even steeper one sooner than we think, and given Civ V's precedent of DLC, expansions, complete editions, and frequent drops to 75% (along with BE's reputation for a buggy launch), I think I will hold out for now until we have a better idea of what's in store for BE's continued support. Smash and Draenor are keeping me more than occupied for the foreseeable future.

This is my first Steam sale so I have a question, mainly regarding CS: GO.

Is $7.49 the cheapest price the game will see during this sale, or will it decrease as the deal nears the end? How do you know which ones remain consistent and which fluctuate?

What about Castle Crashers?

When it is in a timed sale within a major sales event, then that's the lowest it'll go. CS:GO will not be lower than this because as it's only for 48 hours, it's basically in "double sale" right now.

You can not see beforehand with certainty which titles' prices will fluctuate, hence why "WAIT FOR THE DAILIES" comments.

Now, Castle Crashers is a bit unlikely to get cheaper than this. -75% is past the limit where most devs would be willing to discount their titles even further, that said, Castle Crashers has been -90% one time.

So is the Long Dark any good? I'm really tempted to grab it.
I said this in The Long Dark thread:

I backed it and it's pretty much what I was looking for in a winter-set singleplayer survival game.

It can be pretty brutal and you have to constantly balance your fatigue, cold, hunger and thirst levels. I almost feel like the pressure is a little too high, but without the constant threat, I think the game would lose some of its grasp on me.

It's interesting playing a game with so much focus on exploration where you really have to make some tough choices. I could climb that hill and see what's on the other side, but my body temperature is dropping fast and it's probably safer to just keep working through this valley in hopes of finding some shelter.

Also, wolves are jerks.

I debating whether to buy Civilization V, TRANSFORMERS: Rise of the Dark Spark, Watch Dogs...

How are these two games guys?

Should I buy Watch Dogs on PS3?

I already bought race the sun game. Its really fun. :)

Gonna pass on TEW..don't think I have enough time to get through it anyways. The Long Dark looks intriguing though.

What are the chances some of these $20-$30 games drop much lower for the Winter/Xmas sale?

I think most games generally stay the same price across both sales. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. Like TEW will probably still be 66% off.

As mentioned, Castle Crashers was something like $1, and the BattleBlock Theatre bundle was a little less before. That bundle is great by the way -- if you're interested in Castle Crashers, BattleBlock Theatre is worth a look.

There is nothing wrong with this, if you read the forum posts after this he explains very clearly what he's doing.

Take off your internet detective hat and look at the situation calmly, Many MANY games have done this before, including DayZ and Minecraft. This is your "last chance" to get in on the Early Access pricing.

The gaming community getting upset over every single conceived slight is a great way to get developers to clam up and stop interacting with the community.

Nope. All I see is a developer lying through his teeth about why he's manipulating prices percentages for the perceived discount.

Late access? Fucking lol. Come up with a better lie.

Does Sin of Solar Empire ever been lower? It might be the only game I bought in this sale since I'm itching for some space fleet action.

A perceived discount? Are you daft or just purposefully turning off your brain here?

The game was set to increase in price to $15 for YEARS. Running With Rifles started at 5, rose to 10, and was eventually going to be $15 when it was almost done. The devs stated that years ago.

According to the thread they applied for a price increase 10 days ago and dropped it down to the old price as a way for people to get in on the early access pricing one last time. This has been done on Steam before and the dev communicated this on his forums.

"Late access" is a poor way to refer to the period between Early Access and launch, I'll admit to that. It was poorly timed but I think they're handling it very well in their forums.

The people getting mad about this gives ammo to the people who call gamers "entitled".

At the end of the 48 hours, CS: GO will probably double in price, so this will be the lowest it'll go. As an aside, I remember someone here saying CS:GO used to be discounted to $5 during sales when it wasn't doing very well, but people that like to grief started buying massive numbers of keys at such a cheap price so they could be banned without worry. Now, it's $7.50 to help deter that.

EDIT: Fucking double posting again. Why's this thread moving so slowly?

I'm really interested in The Evil Within - I ordered it on PS4 from Best Buy for ~$22 but now it's cheaper on steam.

With a 2GB GTX670 and a i7 2700k would I get an equal or superior experience with the game on PC? i can still return the PS4 copy, it doesn't arrive until Friday.

Already bought Battleblock when it was on sale for $5.10 the other day.
