For clarification on the clonetrooper/stormtrooper thing, clonetroopers were only around for the Clone Wars and a little bit beyond that. They were purposefully engineered so that Palpatine could carry out Order 66 since presumably non-programmed soldiers wouldn't have the loyalty to turn on their Jedi superiors who they fought alongside and befriended for 3 years. After the Clone Wars were over, the Empire started just recruiting people to be stormtroopers since it's cheaper and they needed not just an army to fight the separatists but a galaxy-wide military to patrol and keep the entire empire in line. According to Pablo Hidalgo, they're a volunteer army that Palpatine has created through imperial propaganda inspiring patriotism in the citizens.

The reason they suck compared to the clonetroopers is that they're just shoved through training because they need huge numbers of people in the force. They're not bred to be warriors like clonetroopers. They win through sheer force and attrition.

LOL at people saying the falcon shot isn't cleanly framed. You guys have nfi what you're talking about. If a shot isn't static, it doesn't mean it's suddenly a shaky mess.

Falcon shot is great.

Really liked the trailer, and from the little footage we've gotten I think it looks awesome so far.

I highly prefer the cinematography in this trailer over the other films aready. This shot tells me that Abrams is bringing over some of his visual takes from Star Trek, and I'm loving it.

Also, I'm willing to bet this shot is one of the scenes they did in IMAX. The general aesthetic and framing really seem like there's more vertical image there.

Remember folks: storm trooper uniforms could be put on by anybody.

Just because that guy was in the suit doesn't mean he plays a storm trooper in the movie.

Aren't the clones supposed to have the physical appareance of Jango Fett? Are they gonna give an explanation (or was it given in previous movies) for him being another person now or JJ Abrams doesn't give a shit about continuity and coherence?

Maybe that's not a clone but he looked like one.

Well the idea of them being clones of Jango Fett was not thought up in the OT so they're just soldiers. And clone lifespans aren't that long since they are growth accelerated.

about the crossguard saber:
isn't it entirely possible that he can turn on only the main blade and not the side blades when needed? could have separate ways of activating them, you saw how there was delay in the side sabers turning on.

For close intense fighting he may disable those, just a thought. :P

We haven't actually seen how he uses it. I'd like to think there is reasoning behind it OTHER than just flair. We'll see.

I dont even like star wars that much and I thought the trailer was exciting. Some of you will just never ever ever be happy.

Ah, thanks for this, I was getting confused for a bit.

Yea, that's what I was thinking.

After some consideration, the crossguard would actually work if the blades were angled. Now they won't block anything if the other blade is thin enough to slice off the emitter.

Still looks cool tho.

To you, I think it looks awesome. I think GAF is just hyper critical on every single little thing.

This is a teaser.

Obviously to me as I tend to not speak for others in my posts. There is no "GAF" in my post. Just me and my opinion. I don't know what you mean by hyper critical. I watched the trailer ready to get my hype on 'cause I love Star Wars, I thought the new saber design was dumb looking, I shared said opinion.

I think by "hyper critical" you meant "people are disagreeing with me!"

This is a teaser.

A distinction with no meaningful difference.

I became a fan of Abrams after I saw this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpjVgF5JDq8

This is the voice of someone who gets it. But listening to this and seeing what he delivered in the second Star Trek film... It's hypocracy. Star Trek was nothing. It was not bad it just didn't have anything to say. It was just more Star Trek meh.

I believe he has talent, but there are also flaws here. I'm just as uncertain about this film as I am about Jurassic Park!

That looked really good to me. Not that it matters, but I am not an Abrams fan. That said, from the brief glimpse provided in the trailer I love the 'feel' of the movie -- worn and dirty, similar to the original films.

Very, very, very excited.

Maybe I need to control myself. Star Trek Into Darkness sure was a turd.
