Let's be honest: this is the most ridiculous shot no one is talking about. Yeah it looks cool, but there is no need to fly so low to the ground and put a fleet of ships at risk.

Now keep in mind I'm a fan of Star Wars but not super hardcore into the lore. It is my understanding however that there is always at least 2 Sith correct? A master and an apprentice. So even if Adam Driver is the "main" Sith wouldn't there have to be another? Possibly Serkis character?

People misunderstand this all the time. The Rule of Two established by Darth Bane is the system where there is always only a master and an apprentice, because the infighting will always occur if there are more than that until they basically get reduced to two anyway. That doesn't mean that there's some universal/force law that makes sure that there are always two living Sith in existence, the doctrine just has to have no more or no less for the system to work.

Once Palpatine died, it's very possible that the Sith died with him, and that whoever the dude in the trailer is, is the only "Sith" in existence until he finds an apprentice.

It's equally possible he's the apprentice of a Master who has not been revealed.

Not harping on you about this, people just sometimes treat the Rule of Two as some sort of universal truth, when it's just a system of rule that goes away if all the sith are dead, or if someone chooses to do something different.

Hyped as fuck for the movie, btw.

Let's fly the giant ass Millennium Falcon like 20 feet over the ground! WHAT COULD GO WRONG?!?!

There's something off about it. The energy emitted doesn't look like it normally does.

Do you honestly think they spend thousands of hours and millions of dollars putting this together, just to fuck up the look of a lightsaber?

Waiting patiently for someone to not realize I was being ironic, and post a pic of the hilt saying "yeah, I've got bad news for you.

I dont think the Rule of Two will necessarily apply in the new trilogy, especially if the Sith is just being "reborn" after ROTJ. The new Sith may not adhere to the old traditions.

That's not true at all. It looks like they are flying low to try to hide from something or someone's filed of view. Like its a stealth attack.

Avoiding radar, duh.

Is soccer ball droid is rolling past some pod racing engines? Please no references to Ep 1 :-(

I do have to say that it's irritating that every important event in all these films has to revolve around tatooine. OTOH i love seeing it here

Let's hope not, cause that was just one more bit of BS on my prequel shit list

I think the theme of the whole teaser was to show off easy and effective practical effect shots and prove to the audience that this isn't Lucas' green screen - trade dispute - lovestory bullshit.

But that scene looked like it was 100% digital. I'd love to be wrong, but it just looked too damn "busy" for practical effects.

You can't say that because you don't know the context of the scene. Maybe they're so low to avoid radar?

The prequels are canon get over it.

So basically its entirely possible though that Serkis is perhaps the new Sith Lord and that Adam Driver is his apprentice? Enough time has passed since episode 6 that a new Sith could have appeared (Serkis) and that he is trying to expand their power and is training an apprentice (Driver)

Dark Jedis don't have to be Sith.

That would be cool. The effect is sweet
Wouldn't it though? The fact that the Sith have been down for so long that, whether already having been Sith or turned to see it rise again, they are so disorganized that they have to make their own makeshift equipment. I just like the theory of this being an inexperienced Sith and I think the effect could reflect that.

How do you know they are not staying under radar or something? They are most liking going into a battle.

Yup, entirely possible. It's also possible that the new Sith don't adhere to the old Sith traditions andDriver is the only one or there's more than two. I hope it's the latter, I want a big battle with multiple Jedi vs multiple Sith at some point in the next three movies.

Not a fan of the goofy side blades on the lightsaber. I don't really care about the practicallity but it just looks dumb to me. If you're gonna do wacky laser blade let's get some serrated edge on it or a curved blade or something.

If this is the case that would be fine. I'm not that familiar with what's been going on with Ep. 7. I'm assuming they're claiming a lot of practical effects over CGI are in?

I certainly hope so, I am so sick of CGI in situations where practical effects just look better.

Yeah that makes sense, we really don't know and that's why I'm just kind of guessing at him being the new Sith Lord.....though in a way that doesn't feel right as he talks about an awakening of both the dark side, and the light side. As if he's excited at the prospect of both.

The mystery of all of this is fun :-)

Why would darth Gollum mention the light is rising as well, and he said it so menacing like as if that is dangerous. Something different is going to happen with the force in this one, could be interesting.

edit: post above me haha.

The knee jerk reaction to the light-claymore is great, I'm sure it'll make sense in the movie and the way the character fights. It could very well be a venting of sorts, light saber built by someone with little to no guidance, an imperfect synthetic crystal, a power source that's stronger than normal, whatever.

But, blah blah, modern cynicism and the internet.

I just watched Adam Driver on What If. It'll be interesting if he's the cloaked figure. I also liked the person's gait as well. The clenched fists really show he's passed about something.

Lol was thinking the same thing! If he was truly just an evil Sith who hates the light side why would he mention its awakening in the same breath as the rising of the dark? As if both serve him or something? And yes I agree he says both VERY menacingly.

For the record: that is Andy Serkis narrating the "Star Wars" trailer.

At first I kinda heard Cumberpatch but then after reading that I heard Ceasar. At least in his first lines. In the final bit he sounds monster-like. Wonder if he'll be an alien in the movie?

Also I totally think the hilt is actually exhaust for the bad guy's saber. It shoots out after the main beam ignites and what I've read about the main bad guy seems like what he'd use.
