Also if the rumours are true about how the film starts
about someone finding a sabre and a hand it could of been Vaders hand and sabre and not Luke's like everyone assumed, thus they end up giving Luke Vaders sabre

One thing that has a 99% chance of being good is the soundtrack.

Pretty much all the movies have a superb score.

Extended universe is no longer canon.

Luke has no familiarity with Red = Bad, because in his universe Black = Good.
What do you mean with Black = Good? That was the primary color of the Emperor and Darth Vader. Luke also wore black clothes when he got the closest to the dark side. I think the implication that Black rope = Evil sith is still very much there.

The Good:
- Black lead. Pretty ballsy of Disney. I applaud.

The Bad:
- The seemingly slavish devotion to the originals. It's supposed to be about 50 years after the OG trilogy. Why the heck are X-Wings and the Millennium Falcon still a thing? What the hell are stormtroopers still around for? Why are we back on Tatooine? Because nostalgia pandering, that's why.
- That shot of the Falcon is a less convincing vfx shot than a great deal of the ones in the original trilogy. The sense of weight and movement just isn't believable, and makes me fear Abrams' typical over-stylized bullshit is going to result in action scenes that are little more than a mess of blur and color like the Star Trek films.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Do you think militaries replace tried and true designs every couple of years?

Isn't it 30 years after the original trilogy?

Do you think the second death star blowing up meant the empire crumbled? Why do we still have fighter jets that look like the same fighter jets 30 years ago?

Mark Hamill said himself years ago the black clothes are the Jedi uniform.

Not the monk robe nonsense from Lucas and his mad poetry in the prequels. Obi Wan lived on a desert planet.

I think there's someone behind him. I can see the shot continuing as he slowly turns around, bringing the sword into a defensive stance.

I don't think so, in movies this kind of shot is supposed to pull the viewer along with the character being "one step ahead of us", so in this case he is seeing/feeling something we don't and we stop because he stops, we're being dragged by him and he's the lead. It has to be a pretty important character for him to lead the audience, so probably Luke, or else there is a "worst" villain than this guy in the movie and this one is not entirely bad. You can't really use this shot to have us follow a typical bad guy. Bad guys don't "take the lead" as the audience follows them, unless a good guy is running away ahead of him, in which case we're really simply being shown how the good guy is unable to escape the bad guy.

For the kind of scene you describe, it would start with the camera further away and then catch up to him first, as if we caught up to him and then he realized as much.

Interesting, and it would actually be smarter that way, but aren't the prequels still all canon?

Just watched it for the first time. Loved it.

Seeing the X-wings/Millennium Falcon and hearing the theme instantly reminded of how much fun i had going to see the original trilogy with my mom as a kid. That lightsaber is....different but i will remain optimistic about it.

I hope John Boyega does well in this movie as well.

Jokes.

The argument always goes, Luke wears black the storm troopers wear white. Then someone points out Vader and the Emperor.

My main point was Luke can take up a red saber and it need not imply he has become sith. Especially now that the extended universe is no longer canon.

Yup. I'm not being super explicit in my point because I thought people were more familiar with these things.

Lucas' dumb "all the planets celebrate and the galaxy lives happily ever after" special edition ending influenced a lot of people I guess. It's good to see that they're basically throwing that out.

To be fair, the prequel trilogy was only 30 years it so before the OT, yet the ships looked different.

To be fair, we are unsure of what these X-Wings are for. Maybe they have been smuggled away and are just being busted out now, plus who would not want to fly the Falcon with the new square dish?

Ah, all right, on the lightsaber I actually agree on. IIRC is the one that Luke was left with at the end of episode 6 red anyway.

Though I'd be surprised if he stomps through the woods like that.

No reason why the celebrations can't have happened. They just didn't show when the Imperials crushed the uprisings afterwards.

Did we establish who came up with all the bollocks with Ridley supposedly saying 'Wake Up' at the end of the trailer.

People dont half make up some lies in the lead up for these things. Its like a schoolyard.

Not sure if he took the red lightsaber, but yeah, he did throw his green one into the pit when he refused to kill Vader.

So I got done watching the original trilogy for the first time a few minutes ago. Very solid movies and I can see why people love the series as much as they do. Looking forward to The Force Awakens.

I'm wondering if perhaps Luke has become so powerful with the force that he's actually responsible for resurrecting a Sith Lord? Palpatine? Would be a neat angle that because he's become so strong with it, it's helped bring back a bad guy!

Oh and that very last sound effect in the trailer of the light saber.......being extinguished....... :(
