Gematsu: Sony to hold Playstation Experience event in December

Agent would be a really big deal. Since the Housers were crowned, they've only headed two new IPs, Bully and Manhunt. A Grange Hill GTA and a janky stealth game. Agent was supposed to be their first real huge scope original IP, and it was already in-development in the PS2 era.

Do we know what the original deal was behind Agent's exclusivity? I think it was something like an exchange for letting GTA go multiplatform?

That was such a long time ago. Surely they've renegotiated the deal already, and either it's not exclusive anymore or Sony had to pay up extra to keep it locked down.

The time and financial investment, along with the talent and promise, makes for a game of huge importance, especially when compared to the three games mentioned above, or Crash.

Doesn't really matter if it's Agent in particular. R* continues to make video games, and they will continue to be huge. Considering we know nothing about Agent, there's no reason to be interested in it any more than whatever other mystery IP they might be working on. It's literally just a name that was mentioned a long time ago.

Its just McSpeculation, large sized, with a side of hope. I don't know why people think they would be exclusive though other than some hints at meltdowns. A crazy 3rd party exclusive would cause a meltdown and Capcom is going to be there. Plus the whole old IP returning speculation.

Hmm. Now I understand. Well, we'll know in a few days.

I think Agent would definitely be the biggest deal out of everything mentioned. Crash would be second, TLG third and anything Capcom fourth (Dogma 2, Megaman, SF5, DmC).

Agent (or any Rockstar exclusive) would cause more meltdowns than any of those games. Also lol at Megaman being compared with 1-3.

Nothing would break the internet as much as FF7R. That's the only reason I want to see it happen. The spectacle would be unlike anything witnessed before. Not even that TP reveal would compare.

I think that it's really cool that every game ever is gonna be at PlayStation Experience. What a time to be alive man I tell you I'm so thankful.

Question: Does a game have to be a big surprise to be a big deal? Or any game that most people wanted is still a big deal? Were you less excited for star wars because you already knew it's bound to come? Just curious to know what it takes to break GAF.

This is by no means a hint. Just trying to stay involved in the thread :D

Still this was the most obvious hint i've seen in this thread... ;)
So it's
TLG.

Someone at Sony claimed it was in exchange for letting them out of the their exclusive window for GTA, Jack Tretton I believe. Some also believe it was related to R* picking up LA Noire after Sony had apparently already dumped forty million dollars into it. Who knows. But Tretton already hinted that it might no longer be exclusive, that was back when presumably they were still targeting PS360. Who knows what's happening now, if it even still exists.

You're right, it doesn't. People just use that name for that. It's like how people were excited for Titan, it's just the word people used for Blizzard's next-gen MMO. And Agent is just the word people use for R*'s next huge original IP really.

We do know things about Agent though, it feature globetrotting, and spy stuff, and it was set in the seventies.

I don't see how Agent would be a bigger deal than TLG unless it's just because of R* .

It would fit this event's premise perfectly considering how important FFVII was for the PS1 and Sony's PS history. I mostly care for just the spectacle, too, to be honest. If the game itself would turn out to be wack, I'd just continue playing the original one like I already do on a bi-yearly basis, anyway^^

No, if it exists it will definitely still be exclusive as deals would have been put in place at the start. Those deals wouldn't have just vanished.

Unless said deals have in the meantime been re-negotiated. Everything is possible, especially when an announced game has not yet materialized into anything concrete since.

just like final fantasy xv is exclusive to ps4

Final Fantasy XV was not announced as a PS4 exclusive, IIRC.

That's exactly why. Having an exclusive game from the makers of GTA V and Red Dead would be huge. HUGE!
SotC is one of my favourite games and of course TLG is gonna blow OUR minds, but anything from Rockstar would be generally much bigger news.

Fair enough.

The game that became Final Fantasy XV was announced as a PS3 exclusive, though. If all it took for Versus XIII to go multi-platform was a couple of years and a name change, I don't see how Agent would be impervious to that. Especially when Tretton already seemed doubtful on its exclusivity status.

No leaks yet ? I'm amazed :O

Damn, Devil May Cry seems to be still considered a major asset by Capcom.
There's this video:

"Capcom 2014 About Us", uploaded last week.

Can someone translate ?

They listed these IPs as profitable (I think) :
-Resident Evil
-Monster Hunter
-Devil May Cry
-Dead Rising
-Street Fighter
-Phoenix Wright

So a series of tweets from David Jaffe says
1ofMany reasons I'm eager4people2C our new game is so they actually see I've not been lying when I say @OfficialBartlet is actually BOTH a Game Dev studio AND a ghost hunting agency and that our new game has ZERO to do w/ghost,supernatural, etc.

Aka: our office and name have ZERO to do with the kind of game we are currently creating.

This is kinda heart breaking, I was really hoping for a SuperNatural-like video game, where I can hunt all sort of monsters from Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, Ghouls, .....etc, I'm feeling let down a bit.

Still I'll keep an eye on what he is showing, maybe it will be something as good. (a new hack n slash title)

Exactly because of that. An exclusive from the makers of GTA is bigger than anything (if it's not table tennis).
I'd prefer the last guardian (and many others), but the impact for gaming would be less.

Edit: Nevermind, sora87 was faster...

and this too:
rockstargames.com said:
Agent will be available exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

but it seems to go in the way of what people want to believe so they ignore this information
"but they renegotiated the deal!"

Monster Hunter doesn't do that well in the Western Market so I doubt PSX would be an appropriate place to announce it. Dead Rising is generally more of a Xbox IPO.

Devil May Cry or Street Fighter maybe? Or New IP?

maybe it's nothing at all!

Agent seems like it is in collaboration with Sony, as in Sony has control of that IP, so until further announcement, it is still pretty much an exclusive

To add as well, in response to
Is it like anything you've worked on before?

Thought that was the case, thanks for confirming. From the wiki:

However, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton said at E3 2011 that he was unsure over Agent's PS3 exclusivity and that it was a decision for Rockstar Games to make

I wonder what kind of deal leaves the exclusivity up to the 3rd party though. Sounds pretty crappy.

But that's clearly not true.

PS3 exclusive would be utterly moronic. If it exists, it's next-gen. Which platforms, we can only speculate, but being PS3 exclusive is categorically not true.

If Sony is in control of the IP and Rockstar has no interest in working on it we have the inverse situation as with crash, but with the same result.
No game.

You cant really say that, Sony might now consider solely giving it to one of their first party studios, or having one of their studios like Santa monica work in collaboration with Rockstar as they usually do

It does? Then how come Tretton was unsure of its exclusivity? Sony doesn't own the trademark to the game either.

Sonic may have a more... er, recognized fanbase, but the Sonic series is a complete embarrassment while MegaMan is well respected overall, despite a couple misses from the X series.

Btw, I think TLG sells a guaranteed 2 million. 4 million cap.

TLG is a title that will release 2016 most likely.... (PS4 install base of 20m plus) and a 9.0 meta or above we are talking least 6m when all is said and done a year from release.

Sony never owned the Agent IP.

I believe they do at this point, Sony never really goes into exclusive deals without owning a massive part of the IP

If Agent was up to Rockstar solely, with the praise it was given back then, one of their many numerous studios would have at least began working on it, so it seems its a decision between the two

Sony never owned the Agent IP.

I guess that makes more sense.
It was promised as an exclusive but got lost on the way. We will never see it, at least not exclusive. I am sure they traded it against marketing deals for GTA5 and following games. would not be surprised if the next red dead, bully or whatever has a special treatment on PS4.

Don't be absurd.

Lots of Sony PS3 exclusives have higher than a 90 on MC, and not come even close to six million.

That's not true at all. They don't like to publish major games without owning the IP, but they were never publishing Agent, so that's irrelevant. TakeTwo own the IP.

Well that's faulty logic for two reasons, firstly it didn't receive a lot of praise, or really any. It had a little hype, but that's it. And it also presumes that none of their studios are working on it, which we don't really know.

Depends on whether or not you're the market leader, specially in the U.S and whether the marketing for the game is substantial. (specially with the "enthusiast press")
