I might be off base here but I play dorf the most and always go for his side B over an actual grab.

He is really damn slow though. It feels extremely difficult to approach a lot of the cast.
Yeah, the side B seems decent enough for chasing after people when they roll if you predict it right, but it doesn't exactly launch them off the ground so that's why I still kept trying to go in for a normal throw... often to no avail. Even if Ganondorf does have a short grab range, it's not really relevant since right now I have no semblance of timing regardless!

That's because it is. The character is just terrible, they didn't give him anything to make up for his extremely exploitable weaknesses. They took away his autocancel Nair from Brawl (or rather this might be more of a byproduct of the slightly less floatier physics, but you know what I mean), which was like his... only thing he had for neutral and then his Side B techchasing was nerfed slightly because you can actually techroll away from Side B -- follow-ups aren't guaranteed if the opponent knows that stuff.

He has nothing going for him short of an absurdly strong Fsmash, Ftilt, and Usmash but... those aren't going to get him far at all without any good options in neutral. I mean, I guess he has Bair but that's his only quick aerial to KO with so I'm not sure if you'd want to use that in neutral. Uair's OK too but only if they're coming from above you.

Then let's not forget the insane amount of projectile characters in this game that can just zone Ganondorf out completely (Duck Hunt, Robin, etc). At least Falco's keepaway was nerfed... I guess...

Yeah, I know deep down he sucks horribly. ;_;

I love playing For Glory and having people just swap out to projectile characters after you beat them, and doing nothing but lobbing shit from one side of the stage then running across and doing it again. Something that you can predict and see coming a mile away yet actually struggle to fight against because you're too damn slow to keep up. The only "fast" approach is wizard kick which might as well blow up and kill you if they block it to save them the trouble.
Kind of unfortunate that he's indeed lacking in a number of aspects then, since he was my main in Melee and I like the lumbering heavy-hitters in Smash for some reason. Might just try a few of the others (sans Ike) to see if I'll do any better with them, since Ganondorf takes a bit too much work to succeed with for a scrubby novice like myself. Here's to hoping future patches might help him out a little.

I honestly have great success with Ganondorf, and I think he is quite beastly. It's all about recognizing when you can down B with him. No, not side B. Down B. Jab is your best button up close. Ftilt and dtilt are solid for spacing, but players usually don't like to stand at those ranges because of side B. Rarely side B, and when you do, remember what your opponent does afterward so you can chain grab them in the future - people tend not to make different decisions each time for some reason. Go for bair and dair gimps, and most importantly: BE PATIENT.

Starting to get the hang of this and really enjoying it.

Got any tips for recovering when falling off the stage?
Always go to the ledge for those invincibility frames.

Man my Ness is really shoddy, I think I need to develop a mindset for him. I played a diddy who absolutely wrecked me as Ness, then I turned to Captain Falcon and destroyed him like 4 times in a row. Ended up with an amazing knee to end off my fights for the night too, felt good. Any tips for Ness practice?

What are your tips for getting around projectile spam? ie. Fox lasers, Greninja shurikens, Sheik needles, etc

Ganon's moveset is incredibly beastly but I find I'm easily manipulated by faster characters with projectiles.

LOL ok I'm gonna make one. Want to have some specific rules set?

Just no items.

2 or 3 stock is fine as I'm still trying to debate which would be best for local tournaments. Time is whatever as well.

I'm not too picky on stages either right now... Other than Orbital. That particular one is just too out there. BEAUTIFUL, but so confusing.

Run. Shield. Run. Shield. Repeat until you are in range for down B. Nothing fancy, but it works. It just takes patience. Learn what recovery is like on each of the projectiles. Fox has a LOT of recovery at the end of his lasers. Try it in training mode and see. You can down B to punish his laser spam from pretty far away.

Greninja can't control his projectile well, and it doesn't have great range. He can't "hold" the charge like other characters can. If he starts to charge it, just run forward and jump over it when he releases it. It's pretty easy to get around. Also, I actually canceled the entire charged projectile with Palutena's fair today. That might be worth exploring - I assumed it couldn't be negated by normals.

Sheik is the hardest to deal with because the needles can be stored and released quickly. It can help to jump toward her so that the player doesn't have needle release as a way to protect the charge. Be ready to fastfall nair if she approaches to get you in the air.

Really, Ganondorf is just a character that rewards patience, like Bowser. If you are like me, and have a lot of patience, that's not a problem. If you get flustered easily, then you might want to pick a character with more instant gratification options, like the characters listed above. ;-)

Could ya send me a request? I'm playing online right now and I don't wanna forget ya

I'm not playing right now. :-P You'll remember at some point. :-)

Thanks. I played a lot of 'Dorf on 3DS and had some success that's become difficult to replicate on Wii U. Recently I've been maining Captain Falcon with a bit of Bowser. Probably need to give Ganon another look.

Rosalina is such a weird character to play. Really not getting a good feel for how she plays. Will be interesting to see how she is figured out over the next year.
