Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

I thought the memories were cool and super challenging, possibly to excess. Those giants don't fuck around, and having some hurling magic, others whapping you, and others SUPER whapping you was pretty frustrating.

It was really impactful to experience at first though.

The memories would have been a lot more enjoyable if it had just been the first area in its entirety while it was being seized by the giants. It would be interesting to see how various areas that you're already familiar with were affected.

Splitting them up also made them sort of cumbersome to play in succession. Warping to a nearby bonfire, entering the memory, finishing the memory, going back to a bonfire, warping to the next closest one, etc. got old pretty quick.

Don't you have the feather by this point? Getting back to a bonfire is pretty trivial.

I should note I played on PC, so loading times are basically non-existant. That could be a bigger issue on last gen consoles.

I think DS2 started out poorly, had a great middle, and an awful ending. The giant memories were abysmal and had no place in a souls game. They felt like linear corridor "press X to look at awesome setpiece" garbage. The worst in particular was Memory of Jeigh. Absolute, 100% horse shit.

Eh, I actually felt the middle (e.g. the 4 great ones) was completely mediocre and forgettable. Things only got interesting to me once you got into Drangleic Castle and into all the Aldia stuff. Them deciding to open up the word right at the beginning instead of doing in the second half (e.g. when you get the Lordvessel in DS1) badly affect the pacing and momentum in the game for me.

Which is better in general: Dark Souls 2 or Lords of the Fallen?

Dark Souls 2.

Heads, shoulders, boulders, mountains and worlds above lords of the fallen.

I'm in agreement with this.

Bought LoTF last night and this is what DS2 should have looked like:

Lords of the fallen's art design is too obnoxious(armor ,weapon, enemy design) and repetitious as the game moves forward.

It also runs like garbage on PS4.Too much stutter. So the combat ends up being a mash fest because the combat animations don't play out consistently.

Oh it is. We're talking 15-30 second load times on consoles. ):

-NG will be able to play with NG+
-Soul Memory can be tampered with
-Time restrictions on mp will be more lax
-Rewards for completing your mp missions will be changed
-They want the Next gen version to look as good as the PC version they haven't mentioned the PC versions looking any better.
-number of enemies, placements and routes will be different they stated. Citing last gen hardware as a reason they couldn't make them more complex.

The levels weren't complex because of last gen hardware? Funny how that didn't affect DS1.

Oh well, at least it seems like they're trying to improve the game. I might get it. I just hope I'm still not banned from the servers, since it seems Namco is treating this is a completely separate game.

Any information on the expanded MP? If it's just three phantoms vs three invaders, then I thought that was already possible?

I think he meant the enemy placement. As in they couldn't wander around as much as he wanted them to. His example is more spiders all around Cave Tseldora.

The one screen shot they showed was 3 phantoms and two invaders. That is not possible in the current system with allows 3 mp players max in any combination of phantoms/invaders.

Whoa, I didn't see this news till now. Guess I'm trying Dark Souls again!

I had no idea the limit was 3. I think DS1 capped at 5 players.

Well damn, that's exciting. Seems like a remix or almost a different experience. Again, I hope the first game and Demon's Souls eventually gets that remix edition as well.

Thank you for the info.

I've been keeping my eye on this thread for a while now, interesting news with the translated interview. I'm still waiting to see if they throw in an option to disable the limited respawns on enemies before I decide to triple dip or not. At this point if I play through again, it'll just be to collect 100% of the items/weapons/armor like I did on Demon's and DS1. That will be much easier without the limited respawn of some of the more rare enemies.

No news of actual upgraded graphics to what we played/saw last year, huh?

Well then, no double-dip I guess.

Definitely buying this.

PC players really got the short end of the stick this time, though :\

It's funny how psyched everyone was for Dark Souls 2 before release, myself included. Then the game came out and everyone realized it was just a shitty sequel with none of the stuff that made Dark Souls 1 and even Demon's Souls so special.

I'll wait this time and see after I play Bloodbourne. Which by then I won't want to play another DS game for awhile.

Seemingly no upgrade at all for PC users? Fuck this.

It's quite possible there'll be a steam discount for existing owners.

Personally, I'll be buying it again either way. Loved DS1 sure, but totally love DS2 too.. enough so that I did a no death, no bonfire, lvl 1, just fists run.

What?

Wha...

Is that even fun??

Better be a steep discount, glad I skipped the DLC for now. Otherwise I'll just wait for a cheap cheap seasonal sale.

Bought the game day one so I'm pretty pissed at DX11 and other changes being a paid upgrade.

It's as he said.
If it was EA or Ubisoft, the internet would be exploding in rage right now.
What Namco is doing right now is fucking ridiculous.
And the WORST THING is that there are people actually supporting them on that bullshit they did to PC.

Yep, just look at the response from both the community and press over Namco blatantly doing a bait and switch with how the game looked and falsely advertising their product up-to and including release.

Eveyone just gave them a pass because they like the game. Just look at AC unity of an example of something like that happening to someone who isn't a community darling.

Which is actually totally illegal, it's called false advertising.

Honestly, I'd expect it'll retail for 49.99, and have an upgrade path of 19.99. I doubt it'd be cheaper and id be disappointed if it's only 5 or so bucks off.

Did they ever fix the 2X durability loss rate for the PC version? 60fps would cause that glitch.

I think the glitch for this runs much deeper than just durability. There are a lot of things tied to the frame rate (like some animations too). The failure to decouple all systems from the framerate are reasons why the B-team gets a lot of shit because thus is not an easy fix. They would likely have to rewrite significant portions of game code to fix it correctly.

FromSoft announces new features for Scholor of the First Sin:

*60fps support on PS4/XBO

*Reworked durability features. Did you ever think maybe durability was a little bit unbalanced in 1.0? Worry not, FS has insured this will no longer be an issue with new balancing seeking to tweak the way durability works!

Gave them a pass? I don't think so, there were huge threads on this forum dissecting the downgrade from every angle and heaping on the criticism. I was one of them even though I still enjoy the game for what it is.

It still "works" on PC, despite the glitch. They may not fix anything and we march on because they were not game breaking.

Yeah, most of the forums/PC community are angry at them(hell, just take a look at that huge thread at the DaSII steam forums).

But the press IS pretty much ignoring that whole thing.

Huge threads on neogaf are pointless in the larger scheme of things in the general gaming community. The media and the gaming community at large totally ignored it all, including GiantBomb's own Shoemaker basically telling everyone who had a problem with it to "Get over it".

This isn't even getting into the fact that both of those threads were just as full of people ignoring the problem and defending Namco as people criticizing them, and threads like the AC Unity thread where like, 10x as large and vitriolic and had accompanying media coverage slamming the game for it. DS2 got none of that, and ended up with a significantly higher MC average for it to boot.

Yeah, but criticism is one thing, companies just often shrug them off, there SHOULD have been a major class action lawsuit against Namco/Fromsoft for this behavior to ensure it never happens again, and sends a message to any other other dev/pub this nonsense isn't going to be tolerated.

But...that's why I don't consider the Souls community a real "community" aka one which stands together despite different tastes and recognizes bullshit behavior like that and takes decisive action...

Holy crap! Don't the bosses take a while to beat down?

Also if there's no extra content or graphical upgrade why buy the new version?

It doesn't really work at all on higher NG+ levels.

Once I got to about NG+3/4 I had to start carrying multiple varieties of my main weapons because they all broke faster than I could ever realistically reach a bonfire in any instance.

Fist weapons/fist...really really OP compared to the others. And nah, it doesn't take much more time to kill any boss with fists/fist weapons than other weapons at SL1. In fact, if anything, if you play well, your dps is much higher as well as uses less stamina using fists/fist weapons...
