I guess Feltrol won. I'll play him first, then later if you're still around or if its not too late I'll play you Liquid.

Yeah, I still have to figure out all the little details and techniques. Thanks for the practice!

Next time we play, I'll not use Robin as he's my main and I know him too well to be of any use in learning lol.

I'll stick with Palutena since I know next to nothing about her but enjoy her playstyle. :P

So I didn't realize until just now that they fucking neutered the DK rap in this game. No lanky, chunky or "c'mon cranky, take it to the fridge" verses.

lmao could've fooled me. I don't really know anything about the advanced stuff like invincibility frames, lag and proper blocking/dodging. I should probably practice that stuff on high level CPUs though that hasn't been working out too well for me so far. Landing lag is a lot more noticeable with human opponents.

Make a profile. Change the controls on that profile and save it. Now its forever set as lonf as you choose the profile

Its exactly like Brawl
I get that but on 3DS you just have to change it once and it becomes default. Why allow so many different controllers and then not be able to set a default control scheme. Seems silly.

I'm on it! I want to beat your Robin.

Well the room is open if you want to try again, I'm just sitting around waiting for someone to show up. :P

For Falcon, if I remember, you have:

back aerial or bair - lagless
up air or uair - lagless

That means that using those moves allows you to immediately follow into another move when you touch the ground. Conversely, your down air (dair) and forward air (fair) are very laggy moves and end up with a lot of frames spent getting up or righting yourself when you hit the ground. So, usually, the idea is to use bair or uair whenever possible and if you think it will lead into something on the ground. dair and fair are only for when you know you will score a hit and have to weigh that chance accordingly since they are very strong moves but with a long lag time. Falcon's special are all very laggy but Raptor Boost is a very strong KO move, and I'd only recommend using it at high percents to avoid it getting stale. (Overusing a move weakens it with time until you lose a stock.)

If you saw, I kept jumping only slightly off the ground and using my fair and uair with Robin. That's because those moves, for him, are lagless and I can keep jumping at you with them and then lead into something else immediately (like the fire spell). That's called an approach, and its a big part of the game and learning how to do it safely is important since its basically what starts any encounter.

Throws are another approach but if you miss, obviously, you lagg a lot.

wheres the best resource to start learning the smash systems? i used to be ok at melee in my circle of friends but online thats not gonna cut it. i need to learn good block/grab skills etc and the terminology some of you are tossing around o_O

Well, that depends. I like to play Smash, but I'm not into the very competitive side of it, so it's not all necessary - in my opinion. The ones you're referring to might be some advanced techniques.
Focus on the others you mentioned first, especially blocking.

i dont want to compete, just not get slaughtered online, so need to learn the systems a little better

Fucking FINALLY.

Glad I never have to do that again. AND that I didn't need to use a hammer!

Sure. I'll add you. I'm Cranzor.

Hey man really fun! Your Ness isn't bad at all, though I have a feeling the DK matchup was a little new to you. The thing about PK fire on DK and Bowser is that their upB can save them from it sometimes. So I had a bit of a advantage there.

That first Jr VS Ness match threw me for a loop, hahaha. I know you could bat the cannon balls but I still wasn't prepared for it.

GGs play you soon.

Good games, RomanceDawn! All the beating up on Nabbit cracked me up. You're really good -- I especially like your Bowser. We'll have to play again sometime!

Yeah, I have no idea how to play those matchups. Most of my practice is either in For Glory or locally, and I don't see those characters often in either circumstance. Hopefully I'll get better though!

First of all: Blocking/Dodging. Even if you don't have a great offense just yet, having a good defense always comes in handy!

I barely grab my opponents, mostly because I like to play aggresively. Oh, talking about that, defining your playstyle is important! Experiment and try to find one that suits you the most.

While I don't use the grabbing techniques, others may use them quite a lot. After all, it's where they decided to focus on.

Fucking FINALLY.

Glad I never have to do that again. AND that I didn't need to use a hammer!

Congratulations!

Mind if I ask, but where did you use your hammer?

Thanks, this is actually really helpful. I wish I could use throws more often during a match, my reflexes and timing are terrible and I almost always miss. I also have an issue with controlling my character's movement in general. I'm always missing aerial attacks and land facing the wrong way haha.

What gear setup did you use, and how did you reliably take down the hands?

Shoes that equipped me with a homerun bat, a badge that upped the power of the bat, and the Vampire Brawn Badge, for health reasons. I spend the penultimate match letting myself get hit above 100% to start with a decent amount of health for the Hands.

I had no trouble with the hands as I've done Classic 8.0 countless times and I can pretty much read their attacks flawlessly by now. I went in with like 200HP or something and won the battle with 140 left, haha :)

Also, throwing the bat at a hand takes off quite some HP, IIRC.

So, after some 5,4, 3 and 2 player matches, I've confirmed my suspicions about my Zelda vs Palutena play: My Palutena is fairly competent in 1v1s but struggles a lot more when you add extra players. Meanwhile, the minute you add an extra player my Zelda oddly goes from 'sorta ok' to becoming an unstoppable force of nature. It's bizarre but she just seems to thrive when there's multiple opponents.
I was getting multi-KOs off well-placed dinns fire, hitting people on both the entry and exit animations of teleport, reflecting other people's projectiles into others and other kinds of crowd-slaying action :o

After a while my Robin was also declared the 'extra stage hazard' due to frequently well-sniped Thoron shots cleanly-hitting pretty much everyone onstage despite their best efforts to evade or shield it :P

On the other side of the coin, my ZSS is a walking suicide at best once you add extra players. She's not a character I'm all that good at 1v1 but in the chaos of extra players my habit of accidentally flinging myself off the level only seems to increase a hundred-fold XD
Likewise, my Lucina on wii-u, especially with extra players just saddens me. I oddly feel less competent with her on Wii-U than I did on 3DS and I haven't the foggiest why :P
Also, despite doing reasonably well with Rosalina in multi, there's rarely a point in the fight where luma isn't dead :/

My most pleasant surprise is how fun my Mawile mii brawler is. I'm still teething, trying to work out which specials to use, but regardless of setup it's still pretty fun. I need to learn to ease off on the specials with her but I can see myself setting her up on my 3DS so I can take her round to friend's houses :D
Right now she's rocking:
* piston punch (I get a lot of KOs with this and it feels like the best recovery of the 3 to me)
* ultimate uppercut (such a good punish/'counter' and super satisfying to land when someone's silly enough to leave themselves open for it :3)
* burning dropkick (I'm torn between this and assault as assault not only has good KO power but also sets up for a piston punch follow up, but I find this to be a bit more reliable as assault sometimes just doesn't work correctly, especially in the air)
* feint kick (awesome recovery move and mobility option in general :3 )

Anyone else fiddling with the mii brawler, or even the mii gunner (Mine is iron man :D )? What kind of layouts do people find useful for them?

You'll have to fight my noob attempts at Palutena!

Falcon is incredibly fast and slides a lot on grabs, so keep that in mind. You may not be messing up as much as Falcon is just really, really fast, lol.

IIIII knew it!

I also equiped my Mario with the crouch healing item.

Is it even possible to complete this challenge without the bat?

I think I just found the counter to my wii fit trainer.......mother fucking yoshi. Good God, I have a hard time going in to land good hits. And he can zone me out well with eggs. Only match up where im forced to try and zone him out with WFT projectile, but yoshi is faster and more effective at it. And most of his attack hitboxes out reach/beat mines and hes fast to boot. Most I can do is force him to come in close and perfect shield everything. Cusin whooped my ass.....but atleast I can keep playing with him to learn how to beat yoshi.

Any tips from my fellow smash gaffers? Again this a WFT vs Yoshi advice im askin for, I do well with my other mains vs the reptile.

I can handle the two hands fine, but add in another two minions and I struggle. :/

By upping the power of the bat, do you mean reduce its startup?

I might have to make a Mario from my 3DS...

If you start Smash Tour, it autoplays if you leave it alone. I just pick up the controller when a boss appears to get the challenge done, etc.

Fuck all that recovery frame talk, you pump out those knees man. You're mother fucking captain falcon, you either swag out or go home.

I pretty much ignored the minions, LOL. Really, just focus on not getting bitchslapped by the hands and getting your hits in.

And no, I can't check right now, but it was a badge that made melee items stronger (bat, flower stick, etc.)

Granted, I've only played six or seven matches of the mode so far, but I have yet even to come across a boss character or anything. I don't even truly understand the mode yet, LOL. I have no idea what the checkpoints are for, etc. It's probably the last thing I'll dive into.

2 left for All Star Hard; Megaman seems like the hardest for me since his Fsmash lacks damage and killing power, his Upsmash hitbox sucks and his Downsmash has a huge amount of lag. Any tips?

lol, sure. I seem to be getting a lot of requests for Palutena battles recently XD

Has anyone found an easy way to walk at full speed quickly? I only seem to be able to do it by easing into it, else I get a dash, but to approach properly with Lucina I feel I need to be able to get to top walking speed immediately: it helps a lot against projectile characters as her jab and forward tilt clank or beat most projectiles.

I've used Link as my main ever since SB64 so yeah, Falcon is a teeny bit fast for me. Link always worked for me when I was facing my less-than-amazing friends in 64 and Brawl, but he just isn't cutting it this time around :P Though I realize now the problem is more to do with my skill rather than the character I'm using.

Mirror matches are just good practice, but it will have to be a later date. I need to be in bed! :P

Link's actually pretty good in this game. I can show you some of his tricks but I'm not very good with him.

Finally got home from work...I got Smash 9 hours ago and couldn't do anything until now. Lol. I mainly just want to play with my Amiibos.
